The Space Wolves Battle Fortress, located on Cyron I’s northern planes, stood on heightened alert. With their Wolf Lord slain in battle, the rest of the grey company turned to their wise sages for guidance. Deep within the halls of the fortress, a council of Rune Priests met.
“Our lord has died in battle, killed by a Sister of Battle.” A ripple of shock disperses across the room. “Bloody hell?” yelled one of the Rune Priests, how can a mere human take out one of our greatest warriors?” “Aye,” another chip in, “he probably was drunk out of his mind and slipped on his arse!” The council broke into a storm of laughter followed by more crude jokes. Nigel, the wisest and oldest, sat in silence. Finally he raises his Rune Staff and slams it into the ground, sending a thunderous boom echoing across the great hall. “Have you no shame for our fallen brethren?” Nigel bellowed to the council. “Aye he was a hot headed fool. He would sooner charge into battle with the Sky Claws rather then heed our council, but we must never forget his victories and honor.” The words sink in. One by one, each Rune Priest nodded an approval “Aye”, setting aside their resentment over the late Wolf Lord. “The imperial dogs think they can trample all over us and use us defense laser as they please,” roared Nigel. His eyes glinted with mischief. “I think it is high time we show them a thing or two. Let’s give them a taste of our fine Fenrisian weather!”
…
The desert outpost was bustling with activity. Drop Ships and Valkyries roared overhead, unloading supplies on top of the Skyshield Landing Pad, before vectoring back into space to the orbiting Black Ship Eternal. Tech Priests worked day and night, reconfiguring the Planetary Defense Laser. Sentient Gun Servitors stood guard on top of Bastions, vigilant to enemy threats. Sisters of Battle swept the buildings from top to bottom, searching for booby traps. Dark clouds loomed over the northern horizon.
…
Canoness Dianus sat inside the master control bunker situated deep underground. As a precaution to orbital bombardments and ground assaults, architects designed the bunker to be buried safely far underneath the Planetary Defense Laser. Now it served as a makeshift headquarters for the Order of Faith’s ground force. “Canoness, incoming Transmission from the Eternal,” reported a Celestian. Dianus gave a curt nod to the Celestian who connected to the Eternal. The main screen displayed Inquisitor Lord Antonio. Concern written all over his wrinkled face hints foreboding news. “Dianus,” Antonio began, “up here we’ve been monitoring the planet’s weather. I think you should have a look at this.” The main screen switched to a split screen. Everyone inside the control room gasped, shocked at what they saw. The left screen panel showed images taken from orbit. A massive spiral representing a storm of unprecedented scale encompassed most of Cyron I’s northern region. The right panel displayed a loop recording taken by a servo-skull inside the storm. Strong winds whipped across the surface. Multiple tornadoes wreak havoc. Anything caught in their destructive path were uprooted and sucked into whirling blades. Suddenly bolts of lightning bombarded the ground, frying anything they touch. A cascade of electric lights danced across the forest, sparking a massive forest fire. Fueled by the surging winds, a giant firestorm exploded turning the tornados into a fiery vortex. The sky darkened, blackened by the thick smoke. Burning embers rained down from the sky. “My agents have reported strange psychic readings resonating from this storm,” said Antonio. “No doubt this storm is the work of witch craft,” Dianus noted. “Not quite,” informed Antonio, “Similar patterns have deduced this to be the work of a Space Wolf Rune Priest. Some can bend a planet’s elements to their own will. If this storm reaches the Planetary Defense Laser, Emperor knows what will happen. Our work up till now will be all for naught.” The screen switched displaying a bird’s eye view of a city taken from orbit. “Fortunately my agents have traced the source to this location. Your mission is to assault the city and take out the storm caller.” “Ave Imperator!” replied Dianus, “the rebels will pay for their insolence.”
Played a 1500 points game against Beo’s Space Wolves. We rolled for mission and got seize the ground. After placing three objectives, we rolled for deployment and got Spearhead. Beo won the roll to go first.

Deployment:
Beo places the first objective near the church ruins.
I place the next objective on the second floor of a building near the middle.
Beo places the last objective in top left table quarter.
Beo won the roll off to go first and chose the top right table quarter for his deployment.
Long Fangs setup in the church ruins. Their Razor Back parks outside. Nigel joins Alpha Pack. Their Rhino pulls up near the left edge of his deployment zone. Beta Pack’s Rhino parks near the same building where I placed my objective. Venerable Dreadnought deploys between Beta Pack and the Razorback. Wolf Battle Leader joins Scouts Two. Scouts One and Scouts Two stay in reserves.
The Order of Faith deploys in the bottom left table quarter.
VSS Cath’s Rhino park inside the left building.
VSS Xena’s Rhino parks left of the building. Immolator setups behind the building
Exorcist Wrath and Ruin setup parks next to
VSS Xena’s Rhino. Exorcist Eternal Hatred deploys next to the Immolator, front and center.
VSS Irene’s Rhino parks behind it. Exorcist Judgment Day deploys on the right front and center with
VSS Angela taking cover behind it.
I fail to seize the Initiative. Game starts with Space Wolves going first.
Turn 1 (Space Wolves):
Lord of Tempest: The Calm Before the Storm
Rain intensifies, drenching the city streets.
Wolves Command Squad’s Rhino jerks forward.
Venerable Dreadnought lumbers forward.
Beta Pack’s Rhino drove deeper into the building
Razor Back lurches forward.
Wolves Command Squad’s Rhino imbues smoke.
Venerable Dreadnought levels his double barrel Lascannon at Exorcist Judgment Day. A beam lances slams into the Exorcist front hull, dissipating off its reinforced armor.
Razor Back fires at Exorcist Eternal Hatred. Like the Venerable Dreadnought, the Las-beam fails to damage the outer hull.
Long Fang Squad leader orders his marines to shoot at both Exorcist Wrath and Ruin and Exorcist Judgment Day. Three missiles detonate against Judgment Day’s thick hull, shaking the crew. Two Missiles rocketed toward Exorcist Wrath and Ruin, penetrating its outer hull, and detonating within. The Exorcist engine burst into flames, spewing smoke into the air.
Turn 1 (Sisters of Battle):
VSS Cath’s Rhino exits the building and moves towards Wolves Command’s Rhino flank.
VSS Xena’s Rhino follows close behind.
Exorcist Eternal Hatred falls back while
VSS Irene’s Rhino parks behind a building.
Immolator intercepts Wolves Command Squad’s Rhino. Rear hatch pops open, disembarking the Sisters Command Squad.
Exorcist Judgment Day and
VSS Angela’s Rhino drives along the right flank.
VSS Angela’s Rhino pops smoke
Exorcist Eternal Hatred locks onto the Venerable Dreadnought and fires a barrage of rockets. Many crashes into intervening cover, but one strikes true. Despite the Dreadnought being Venerable, the rocket pierces its thick hull and detonates within. Venerable Dreadnought blows up, sending debris and metal chunks everywhere.
Sisters Command Squad fires at the Wolves Command Squad’s Rhino but fails to pierce its veil of smoke.
A Battle Sister armed with a Meltagun from
VSS Cath’s squad pops open the Rhino hatch and fires at the Wolves Command Squad’s Rhino. Heated jet grazes over the Wolves top, knocking out the Storm Bolter.
Turn 2 (Space Wolves):
Lord of Tempest: Howling Cyclone
Nigel summons a howling cyclone. Strong winds whip across the Sisters of Battle convoy. Fortunately the Sisters are safe within the confines of their vehicles.
Scouts One becomes available. Unfortunately, they got lost and wound up entering from the right table edge (Beo rolled a one).
Wolves Command Squad leaps out of their Rhino
and rushes towards the Sisters Command Squad.
Their Rhino speeds off past
VSS Cath Rhino to contest the left objective.
Razor Back rolls past the crater of what once was a Venerable Dreadnought.
Nigel attempts to use Murderous Hurricane, but psychic energy discharges (Beo rolled an 11). He uses Storm Caller, summoning a protective wind barrier around his squad.
Wolves Command Squad opens up on the Sisters Command Squad. Gouts of flames and hail of bullets tore into the Sisters Elites. Three Celestians perishes under the onslaught. One bolt fractures the Canoness Dianus’ power suit, causing a wound. She stands firm and passes leadership.
Beta Pack Plasma Gunners fires at the Immolator but the plasma shots bounces off the command tank.
Long Fangs divides their shooting between
VSS Cath and
VSS Xena’s Rhinos.
VSS Xena’s Rhino makes three cover saves while
VSS Cath Rhino’s Storm Bolter gets blown off.
Scouts run one inch.
Razorback locks onto Exorcist Judgment Day, but drives over a pothole, causing its Lascannon to miss (rolls two one’s to hit)
Wolves Command Squad charges into the Sisters Command Squad. Canoness Dianus summons the protection of the Holy Spirit, wrapping an invisible barrier around her and her Celestians.
A shriek cuts through the air as Nightwing, Nigel’s pet hawk, dive towards Canoness Dianus. Nightwing pummels Dianus, pecking her wildly with its beak. Dianus fends off Nightwing. Making use of the distraction, Nigel whirls his rune staff overhead, slamming it into the Canoness, but an invulnerable force field catches the blow. One Grey Hunter outflanks the Canoness Dianus, driving his dagger deep into her side. She grits her teeth in pain and shoves the Grey Hunter off of her before blocking another of Nigel’s attacks. The rest of the Grey Hunters overwhelms the Celestians. Pinning both to the ground, the Grey Hunters proceeds to butchering them into pieces. Dianus, bleeding profusely from taking a bolter hit and stab to the side, channels her remaining strength into one final attack. Dianus lunges at Nigel, swinging her Eviscerator over her head. Nigel brings up his Rune Staff to block, but the churning teeth slices cleanly through the runic staff, cutting straight through Nigel. Shock registers on Nigel’s face before he collapses dead (Nigel without Terminator Armour = no invuln?!).
