• Eldar Night Spinner (first production sprues). Supposedly this is an add-on sprue to the Falcon kit with a turret similar to the FW kits.
• Re-cut Vyper (mould tooled). Don’t know if the pilot or gunner have been resculpted.
• Dark Eldar Ravager (digital editing). Weaponry very much of Eldar aesthetic, a few spikes and what appears to be a sail similar in fashion to a multi-strutted, slightly spiky Eldar BFG wraithship feel.

Eldar, I'd be a little upset as they aren't in that desperate of an update but I guess if it sells well, GW will update faster.

DE, I'd definitely want to see an update soon. Those poor bastards have waited long enough.

Eldar need an update just the same as DE need an update.. Both have about 3-4 decent units and the rest is garbage in 5th ed

Big difference is eldar dont need new models really compared to DE. Everytime 40k has a new edition it instantly invalidates almost half of the Eldar book since its so full of current edition gimmicks unlike most other books (Tau suffer similar fates)

Well, comparing Eldar to Necrons is a bit much... Would be surprised if Eldar weren't still at least CLOSE to top tier with a couple of builds?

Im not saying eldar or DE are bad.. Just all the builds basically revolve around all the same units and basically no builds use half of the units in the book

That to me shows how poorly written and balanced the two books are, regardless of the strength of their great units

I mean Ive won 2 years of semi finals in 'ard boyz with Eldar but I still find their codex very underwhemling.. I rather have a codex with 90% useful options than 5% must haves, 30% useful and like 65% crap (Basically due to 5th ed kill zone and consolidation rules)

Avatar (Not awesome but still good)

Fire dragons in wave serpents

Troops
Jetbikes
Dire avengers in wave serpents

Fast
Warp spiders are solid, just not used a lot in 5th

Heavy
fire prisms x3

There are some decent units like wraithlords, war walkers (prob is they should be fast attack) and the assault guys like banshees and scorpions but 5th edition hurt them hard

Vypers suffer from 5th edition vehicle rules.. Pretty much they went from heroes to zeros..

Basically they got their movement cut in half.. Warwalkers however are decent but they are so frail. 3 work well tho outflanking. Problem is they fight for spots over the fire prism

I havent seen anyone use vypers since 5th and I doubt I ever will unless they dont have anything else

Getting a bit offtopic tho!

Well the good news is 6th edition isn't planned until after 2012. Then the world will end and the Eldar will actually be effective

There will always be weak units in a game as complex as 40K. If you want to play something where all your choices are equally strong as they are vulnerable, try rock, paper, scissors.

For me, a unit like Swooping Hawks adds an extra dimension to the game which makes it fun to play. Yes, they'll quickly expire against Space Marines, but you might just take a Landraider with you (Haywire Grenades + Intercept = ).

As for the new releases? Kind of curious about the Night Spinner, but would have preferred plastic Wraithguard.

@Corvus

I have to disagree about either Eldar or DE being weak, both are very powerful.

The only truly bad unit in the Eldar codex are Swooping Hawks. Everything else is viable. You don't have to have them in skimmers either, foot Eldar are brutally effective.

I lost to a foot Eldar list with a hard, mechanized SW list at the top table in the last GT I was at and my foot Eldar are undefeated.

And the Avatar is pure awesome, 100%, unadulterated awesome. He is worth more than his points, and mine always delivers the goods, every game.

The thing with Eldar is that you have to be a good player to win with a lot of the builds as mistakes are so hard to overcome with them.

Guess I'm just being skeptical about the Eldar rumors. I can see a re-cut of the Vyper to ensure they have the same weapons as the WW and WL, but a Night Spinner? It would have been more believable if it were a plastic Fire Prism upgrade, I suppose.

As for Dark Eldar: I'll believe it when I see it.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I still think that maybe my grandchildren will get to play with the new edition of the Dark Eldar codex . . . and at the age of 19, that's quite some time to wait =p

But the codex still kicks ass, and you just need to use different tactics, and the right combinations, just like any other army. *sigh*

I dunno, if you live in certain parts of the UK, then you could conceivably have grandchildren in 13 years (which is roughly how long we've been waiting so far...)

Codex was pretty good (4 Dark Lances in a unit of Warriors ), but miniatures (a few exceptions aside) were never up to scratch and army aesthetics is a big part of the hobby for me.

Sadly there are parts of the UK like that . . . But I was looking more for a number around 30 years? lol

And yeah the models are a bit rubbish . . . But I'm one of the few people I know who like the vehicles. Maybe cos I was brought up on Star Wars, and thought the desert skiffs looked cool in Episode VI . . . Speaking of which . . . Maybe they will make some kind of monster that looks like Jabba, have it on a massive skiff, and it will kick some SM ass. =D

Vyper squadrons still work but you have limited weapon loadouts to work with. Also you have to plan on maintaining some screening units - EJB or Wave Serpent w Star Engines. Performance wise, vypers serve the same purpose as war walkers - point wise, walkers are slightly superior. Vyper advantage is you can't get tied down in CC also you have a more mobile unit.

To me this is all about style of play and availability of heavy/fast slots in your build.

Then you think wrong. I'm not a Necron player by any means but 5th's change to how rending works really took a huge dump on Necron anti-tank capability, something exacerbated by the proponderance of mechanized forces that have sprung up.

It's ok, let him think that. It all comes down to running the same 1 trick deceiver pony and honestly that is boring as hell. Take anything else and you probably will be swept off the table regardless.

Back on OT: so, Dark Eldar line is done I keep hearing, wonder how many 100's in a GW head's salad we'll have to garnish to get them to put it out.

I've always thought they were a mixed bag. Yeah, the reaver jetbikes looked great, but the raiders/ravagers look like Jabba's skiff rejects.
