Seeing that the last thread got locked I only thought it was fitting that I repost this for people to discuss. Please keep in mind that I did not put this person up to the test, or send him free stuff, or promise to shovel the snow in his front yard.

The video was actually sent to me by a member of My Battalian since it was a review on their site. Also guys, please keep it civil. The mods do a great job being patient with these threads so don't p*$% them off by saying hateful things to each other. I myself am learning this lesson and hope everyone can be cool this time.

I also filmed a new video of us doing a similar test to help people see that any Battle Foam Bag can be abused and still keep models safe.

Enjoy the video.

Here is a new video we just did of the same kind of test without any cut shots.

That's awesome. I'd love to see the face on someone walking nearby the moment he launches that pack!

Wow. Ballsy. Don't think I'd have been willing to put those packs through such a test.

Nice to know they're airline baggage handler-safe, though .

I'd have laughed my ass off if a car drove over the pack as soon as he threw it into the street.

Still, makes me confident my stuff will be okay when I get my P.A.C.K. shipped from NY to CA.

Impressive. I guess the real baggage handler test would be using it as a football for a freekick/punt attempt

Seriously considering getting one of these things now. Just need to paint enough stuff to warrant it first!

My 11 month old daughter used the top half of my PACK 1520 as a step stool when she is trying to get something high up. She sits on it and bounces on it and I wasn't even afraid anything would happen to my models. So, yeah the Battlefoam bags are sturdy.

Sorry, I was an baggage handler and ramper for the airlines and I have seen Battlefoam products get destroyed. They are not able to withstand 1000 pound of luggage along with the turblance and the unpressurized compartments. The plastic becomes brittle and shatters in the extreme cold in the cargo area. The only thing that saves the bags is the foam which will compress with the amount of weight that is put ontop of it.

Containers such as the 1520 is large, rigid and seemingly solid it is used as a base for most luggage stacks. Have you ever seen a Battlefoam container fall from the belt loader to the tarmack from a Boeing 777 the in wintertime. Cracked open like a sauage spilling minis everywhere.

This is a horrifying story!

And nice to know that our luggage is so well looked after...

When I saw a gaming bag come through I set them aside and was careful with them but most rampers do not care. It is just another ing heavy bag that needs to be loaded. The are thrown, hit, crushed and at times ran over by 3 ton tugs. I know because I have ran over a couple at night.

Long with that battle foams products are not water proof or water resistant. Some luggage carts are open topped and the larger airlines deice a bit away from the gate. Now at times the stream of deicing fluid will hit the luggage and get inside. This is a water and glycol mixture that is very slick, very difficult to get off and will stain most things the color of the pure glycol.

I do own a 1520 case since it is the only case big enough to carry all my ork infantry in my 22500 point army. But I will never travel by air with one since I know the reality of air travel.

I think I'll attach a sail to my 1520 and float it abroad next time.

At that point I don't think it matters what you ship your stuff in and I'm not just talking models. Any luggage would break under those conditions.

I question the entry story frankly, even if it had 50 pound bags stacked on it you would need to stack 20 bags to hit 1000 pounds, and every bag being 50 pounds is frankly not a reality, nor it stacking 20 bags, which are probably at around 12 inches or more in height lying down so they would need 20 feet of vertical height all placed on top of the bag. Not to mention that is basically the same size as carry on luggage, so if you used that as the base of a luggage pile it'd topple over.

Oh and the chances of a baggage handler seeing a checked Battlefoam bag, that happens to be the bag that gets dropped, in freezing weather, from the edge of the loading belt in a 777 seem...well like a rather huge long shot.

Man I don't even own a Battlefoam bag but I just cannot understand all the hate they get. I must of missed the YouTube video where a Battlefoam bag ate a box of kittens or something.

Well, at Great Lakes Airlines (a small regional airline) we use to fly Beechcraft 1900s, we would max out the cargo limit with just twenty bags at times which and that was only for 19 passengers. A 717, MD-80 holds at the many times more than that along with caskets, freight, mail, etc which can and does shift at times wildly in the cargo compartment. Also, all those compartments are unpressurized and unheated unless they are carrying live cargo. I have seen grandma's casket covered in frost when unloaded. You can risk your minis by trusting in a BF case with the airlines but you only have yourself to blame when they are missing or broken.

I wouldn't call it hate. However I think there is resentment directed at the snobbery involved. Compare it to people that drive BMW's and think people that drive Fords are beneath them.

I think that's where the rumbling comes from.

And don't forget the power of "contrarianism". Some people will dislike something just because a thing is popular.

I don't hate my 1520 but I just know the reality of the situation that bag would be in. No bag company should ever advertise that their bags are airline safe.

Don't get me started on what TSA do to gaming minis when inspecting luggage. Oh yes, you can not have your bags locked with a non-TSA approved lock or they will cut the lock off.

After reading your story PIP, it looks like any miniature bag, that isn't carryon, isn't safe. I've only ever used carryon bags for my minis for this very reason.

I would think if you are travelling airlines with your minis in a battlefoam bag, you would think to mention to the bag check-in that the contents are fragile. At the very least the red fragile sticker will call attention to take better care of the bag and not stack 20 bags on top of it.

BTW, I will not fly the Great Lakes Airlines if I am in the area. Hahahaha!!!

It qualifies as hate when the same useless nonsense appears in every thread by the same people. Let people excited about the product discuss it. All this snobbery crap does is make a real discussion impossible and sways no one.

I don't think it's fair to qualify Pipboy's comments as "hate," and it's quite rude to stop just short of calling him a liar about his stories.

FWIW, I think BF is a SPECTACULAR product. I do intend on getting a hold of a 1520 one day. I think Romeo has his thumb firmly in the heart of the market & KNOWS what players want and need in a case & trays. The truth is, though, that everything pb101 said about the case makes absolute sense. Luggage is made for the specific purpose of carrying your items safely in an airplane cargo hold. Battlefoam cases are made for the specific purpose of carrying your miniatures... with you... That's the difference.

A 400 pound man sitting on top of a 1520 once will not stress it nearly as much as having 50 pound HARD CASE luggage slammed into it repeatedly at a high rate of speed.

Again, this is NOT to call BF's quality into question. I think it's the best on the market. It's only meant to point out that even a product that good DOES have its' limitations.

I am not saying BFs products are bad by all means. Like I said before I own a1520 case and love that I can carry all my ork infantry and warmachine all in one go. The case is solid and easy to transport you minis to and from games in a car. But all I am saying is that a BF should not make the claim to be airline safe when the cases are not even as secure as hard side luggage which still bursts open at times. So, what BF needs to do is make a line of airport ready mini cases that can truly take the weight and extreme temp changes which are present on most aircraft.

Again, I love my bf1520 but I know that it is an extreme risk to put it on an a/c.
