This had to have been the closest game I have ever played. It was a 500pt tournament with the scouting rules (or whatever). Basically there were 3 objectives put right through the middle of the board for each match. one in the center, two on both sides. Every game was a pitched deployment.

My list
Sloggin Sluggas

HQ

• Warboss
-Power Klaw

Troop

• Nobz x6
(Brought by warboss)
-Painboy

• Ork Boyz x20-------------120pts
-Big shoota x2---------------------10pts

Fast attack

• Deffkopta

His army was IG with about 63 troops. Basically all his units were in platoons (idk how many). One or two had a command squad and all had heavy weapons teams with either las cannons or mortar.

Before i go on i will admit that i don't have any pics and that this happened a few weeks ago so my minds a little fuzzy on the details.

We rolled of and i won so i decided to go second and deploy second. I had decided to see what exactly i was up against before i deployed and about wet myself when he took the 5 miniuts to deploy. Basically every square inch of his deployment zone was packed with guardsmen! At this point i had thought that it was pretty much over so i decided that if i cant beat him than ill just screw with him and throw something at him that he had never seen before, i declare that ALL of my units are going to be held in reserve with my deffkoptas attempting to outflank.

Turn 1

The ground shakes as marching is heard all throughout the battle field. A highly disciplined army of guardsmen and thier commander march onward to the marked objectives. Their is no enemy opposition in sight thus far, but their Intel confirms an ork scouting party in the area. The commander and his squad see no orks in sight whatsoever, but yet his instincts tell him that they will be there soon. wanting to hurry up and get his units dug into place he shout GO, GO, GO! and the thundering sound of countless boots fill the air as the guarsmen army runs forward.

The orks, not knowing about the battle to come, have slept in only to be waken up by the sound of a Challenge coming their way. Warboss Ead Klabba, being the first one to awaken from the noise of a hurried march trys to rally up his troops for the best Waaagh yet.

Basically he shouted go go go and his troops took all the objectives on the first turn. All my units being in reserve forces me to forfit my turn.

Turn 2

With the bulk of the commander's army having taken all the objectives that were set by the general, he had all remaining forces in the back move up and cover their flanks.

The orks, after being awakened by a rather exited warboss, gather thier sluggas and run forward. The deffkopta pilots, anxious to feel the wind at thier face hit the turbo and go soaring through the air and end up flying right in front of the rather startled enemy squads. The rest of the boyz, now spotting the enemy ranks grin and run twords the enemy with thier feerless warboss and his nobz right behind them. Today was going to be a good day with plenty of ummies to kill.

With a bored look on his face my opponet moves all of the forces that didnt make it midfeild last turn, up. at this point he has every single unit sitting in cover on the middle objective except for one squad on each of the side objectives. When my turn came i had to roll for reserves. I was hoping to roll low and have all my units arrive on turn 3 or 4 to contest all the territories and go for a tie, this did not happen. top my dissopointment i rolled a 5 or 6 on each of my squads.i deployed two of my deffcoptas turbo boosting tword the left objective from just above the corner and did the same with the third kopta on the right. The rest of my armie walked then ran forward, my boyz screening the warboss and his nobz. lucky for me he moved forward on turn one so if i was lucky he would only get a turn of shooting in at my boyz.

Turn 3

With the commander's new targets running straight at them he smiled and shouted "First rank fire, Second rank fire!" a hail of las gun shots rained forward at the orks leaving less than half of the enemy squad retreating. The commander chuckled to himself at the pitifull display of ork tactics

The warboss now furious that his troops are leaving the fight shouts for his nobz to keep running with the the promise of new trophy awaiting them. Ead Klabba smiled slightly as the ummie faces became more apparent. With great ferocity he shouted Waaagh!!!!! and even though this battle cry was only responded to by the nobz next to him, it was still loud enough to strike fear into the guardsmen squad 3 feet in front of him. Thier blood now boiling with excitement the nobz lay waist to the guardsmen squad, not a single man was left breathing.

This is were the action happened. With my boyz now in range he throws down some serious lasgun fire. Although my units were out of range of his rapid fire, between first rank fire second rank fire and a ton of lucky rolls he still managed to wipe out all but 6 of my boyz who failed their moral check and ran off the bored with an unlucky retreat roll. He also fired some mortar shots but they all missed and only one deffkopta died (Praise be to gork and mork for cover saves). After seeing my troops run off the battle field one turn after they were deployed i have to say that i was feeling rather dissopointed. this battle was looking very one sided until i charged my nobz up into the frey. basically they moved 6, ran and got about 3 inches from the enemy. Seeing my mistake of putting my deffkoptas right into the frey i decided to have them turbo boost exactly 24 inches away tword my side of the feild. my opponet assumed that this meant it was his turn but i stopped him and declaired Waaagh! Of course he challenged me on it and i had to show him my codex beacuse he had apparently never faced an ork army that had Waaaghed before... After he read up on it and confirmed it with the judge i assaulted his platoon and rolled a 6. all my nobz were stuck in and with a flurry of lucky rolls i killed off every single unit in that platoon!

Turn 4

The commander seeing an entire platoon layed to waste turns his full attention at the raging nobz and thier warboss and shouts First rank fire! Second rank fire!. another hail of fire rained down on the orks from both lasgun fire and mortars from his platoon and the one next to him, but was astonished to find all the nobz in tact all but the warboss and two nobz that had a slight limp!

The warboss now battle crazed charges at next platoon, his shoota firing louder than ever. As the nobz made thier way further into the ranks chopping and hacking away at anything within arms reach they suddenly stop and realize that again all that lay around them are dead bodies! They hav yet again wiped out an entire platoon! As the warboss looks of at the next platoon, ready for another charge he notices a paricularly important figure lying in front of him, this one with one of the ummies shiny pins that tells the rest of his boyz to fallow him. His smile widened as he reached at the ooman's throat. A helpless and scared look came over the ooman's face as the warboss picked him up by the neck with his power klaw and with a final motion squeezed the commanders head off. now thoroughly covered in the blood of his enemy he threw the body down and spat on it as he readied himself for the next charge.

I could not believe my luck with this round. Hid commander shouted First rank Second rank and between the countless lasgun shots and the bombing from the morters, after saves were taken the squad had taken only 3 wounds wich I split between my nobz, painboy, and warboss. so now happy that i still had a full squad i charged into the command squad's platoon and wiped out every single model! I had never had this kind of luck ever!

Turn 5

Even though their commander was dead the remaining guardsmen realized that they still had a job to do. With great intensity the open fired on the enemy. morters bombed them, lasguns poured thier fire into the snarling ranks of the enemy, wich finally appeared to dwindle.

The warboss ran head on into the enemy ranks. he was now heavily injured. after catching a few rounds in the gut and a mortar round to the head he was starting to limp, even the painboy's medicine wasn't doing him any good now. he took a quick glance at his nobz. two down and the painboy dead they were looking a little worried. "Lets rip em a new one!" he shouted trying to rally what was left. He charged fast, he charged ferociously at the enemy. no matter what he was going to get stuck in with or without the boyz. fortunatly and to much of his relief, he heard the inspired shouts of his nobz running up behind him, ready to slaughter the ummies. The deffkoptas realizing just how few of the ummies were left at this point decided to jet boost straight at them, hoping to get thier fair share of the slaughter. With blood curtling roars the nobz, led by thier fierce warboss shredded apart the platoon. Much to the Bosses suprise the platoon stood fast and made a last stand. All of them fixed on taking out the warboss they tried thier hardest to take the beast down, but alas they only managed to scar and bruis him as his aged rock hard skin had resisted the pitifull blows from the pethetic ummies.

This is were my luck started to run out. He got four wounds in, enough to finish off two of my nobz and my painboy, and also wound my warboss again. So now with the warboss having only 3 nobz and one wound left i made a moral check and rolled an 8. thanks to the warboss i passed. With my movement phase i moved my nobz only an inch and now was about two inches away from the enemy. In the assault phase i would be right on top of the objective, perfect. my koptas jet boosted up to their objectives. now that i had all the objectives contested I was finally going to win this. My coptas would be contesting the side objectives and the nobz would tear apart the next platoon forceing a moral check that they would fail and would leave the middle objective claimed by me right? Wrong! yea, i had the territories contested and did a pretty good job on the platoon, but unfortunately they passed the moral check so they were still contesting it! well it couldn't all be bad, at least I could still win because we would tie and i would have more points. Wrong again! we rolled for turn 6 and passed.

Turn 6

The platoons holding their positions on the side objectives open fired on the deffkoptas. The sheer number of shots being fired was no match for a deff koptas speed however and all the shots fired upon the deffkopta on the left flank missed. unfortunately the deffkopta on the right was not so lucky. Many shots were fired, many shots missed, many shots glanced off the rough metal of the soaring menace, but three lucky shots hit. One shot managed to hit a weak point in the koptas propeller, another caught the engine and it exploded in a black oily cloud of smoke and fire, but just before the intense heat had devoured the pilot his life ended at the third and final shot went straight through his head. With a loud KABOOM! the kopta smashed into the ground and exploded in a toxic display of blood red flames hot enough to scorch the rocky ground beneath it. The marines making thier last stand wounded a nob before their squad was torn apart by the ferocious beast before them. With only three of them left they decided that it would be better to die for the emperor than to live the life of a coward.

The buzzer sounded and the game ended.

Much to my disappointment and astonishment, only 3 shots made it through to the kopta on my right and i failed the saves. The part that really bugs me is that i not only failed the saves, but I had a 3+ cover save from jet boosting and can you guess what i rolled? All ones. Thats right, with the most unlucky roll in history i lost the game because i managed to roll 3 saves with result on every single on of them a 1. I still might have had a chance if the last platoon had failed their moral checks, but instead in another stroke of bad luck they passed.

The final score was one objective controlled by him and two contested contested. If the kopta had survived i would have one because we would have tied and i would have had more points but thanks to a stroke of bad luck I lost.
Still, i did a lot better than i expected. When i first saw his army i thought it would be over on turn 2.

Hey, I was at that Tourney (Ork player). I was loathing to go against that IG player myself as it would have been the 1st time I'd have been outnumbered in a game. You took a tough match up down to the wire with vs a guy I hear regularly mops up the 40k tourneys. Can't be too disappointed with that.

Yea i know, that's what everyone was telling me. Everyone said that he has played in all kinds of tournaments and placed in quite a few of them. Apparently he is a true grit player that plays to win so i am proud of myself.

Wait, you were at that tournament? were you the player with all the kans?

Nice report. The IG advanced after you gave them an extra round of shooting by staying in reserve? Interesting choice. You also got really lucky having everything come in at once. You boyz squad dieing didn't end up being in vain.

It sounds like the guy way looking to win the easy way (sit back and roll shooting) and you gave him hell. Well done.
