So about a month ago a buddy gets Space hulk for his B-day. And since he's not quiet as good at painting as our friend chad, he agreed to paint em up. Our friend chad is painting them in exchange for Nids'.

The scouts have been a side project for about a month also. And we like how they came up the only problem being that the guy who plays SM doesn't want Crimson fist anymore he wants Blood Angels. So we have a tac squad, the scouts, and a rhino this color and not the same as the rest of his army. (Well long as he sticks with blood angels this time.)
But anyway figured we'd get y'alls opinions on what we've done so far. (still working on the rest of the SH Termies) not sure what color we want the Librarian. The guy who owns em doesn't like blue.

Those are quite nice.

What did he make the scout cloaks out of?

Not a bad job at all

The armour on the terminators definitely needs some shading, a light wash of devlan mud with some badab black in the recesses would add texture and stop the red from dominating the model. The gems are nicely done, although I think they should be a bit darker at the tops before you put your white dot on.

The scouts are quite good too, although the one in the middle with the MaD StArInG EyEs Of DoOm freaks me out

rather neat paintwork. I agree with j.black on the shading though. The ghille suit on the scout was a clever idea.

About the librarian: Maybe paint him the regular BA colours with a shoulderpad and some other librarian details in proper librarian colours?

What did he make the scout cloaks out of?

I took the twine I bundle my newspapers in and cut it down to itty bitty pieces and then unwound em to get the single piece(thread?) and layered em on the cloaks they already had.

And I like the crazy eyes of doom. Figured all sergeants had them.

The cloaks are aces on those scouts.

I agree with the rest on the Termie armor. It loooks really nice - just no definition. I couldn't decide if you had actually painted it or not since it was so smooth - good job on that. I find it hard to get a really smooth cover on pieces like that.

Some of the best ghille suits i've seen - nice job! The terminators need some work on the armour, far too flat red at the moment

I like the flat red, its a great contrast to all the grimdark.

Hmm... Phat13uddha neglected to mention to me that he was posting my figures here... but I have to say it's nice to have people comment on your work. Thanks so far!

The armour on the terminators definitely needs some shading, a light wash of devlan mud with some badab black in the recesses would add texture and stop the red from dominating the model. The gems are nicely done, although I think they should be a bit darker at the tops before you put your white dot on.

There is actually quite a bit of shading on the mini's that the pictures arn't doing justice. Whatever 13uddha used as lighting more or less obliterated the shading work. They've all been washed with Devlan Magic and then gone back and re-highlighted with Blood Red again to clean them up.

The gems though I agree with. These are my first attempts at painting jewels and if you look at the minis in order you can see them getting progressively better as you get to the more recent ones.

The scouts are quite good too, although the one in the middle with the MaD StArInG EyEs Of DoOm freaks me out

Lol... he's actually only my 5th mini to try and paint and my first non-helmet head ever -- so that's my excuse for neglecting to put in pupils.

I couldn't decide if you had actually painted it or not since it was so smooth - good job on that. I find it hard to get a really smooth cover on pieces like that.

Thanks!

Tinkaro took the twine I bundle my newspapers in and cut it down to itty bitty pieces and then unwound em to get the single piece(thread?) and layered em on the cloaks they already had.

Fixed. But yea, that's more or less what I did and each of those took a full day... not very fun.

Again, thanks for the comments! Hopefully the owner will come through with my promised payment soon so I can start posting mini's that I'll actually get to keep.

I like the painting on the scouts, as well as the gems on the termies, but there are a just a few minor details that would push this into the "pro" category:

Bases on the SH termies need dressing up

The Termies could also use a bit of definition to the red, as mentioned by other posters. A fine highlight of blazing orange would do wonders.

The scouts bases are good except that they lack any sort of variation. that could be accomplished by attaching one or two larger rocks found outside, or by gluing down crumbled cork and painting it.

As I said, ace painting on the scouts and the gems. I wish I could master the gems, but alas that is just outside my skill level ATM. I love your twine ghillie suits, as they look better than the medical gauze I was using for mine.

I think it's pretty awesome that you would say that considering I've only been painting for a few weeks now. Thanks!

And I don't like the terminator bases either but the owner wants them standing on concrete and I'm not too sure what else to do to make it look better. I wanted to do a very fine texture on them to make the concrete more believable but it's hard to do so on such a small scale without it coming out like the scout bases. Maybe glue down some base-sized circles of fine grade sandpaper? I dunno.
