All right, so I've been playing around with this idea in my head for a while now. I wanted to do an IG army but wanted to do something different. I also wanted to do a nontank centered army so I wanted to do a true guard horde. I've always loved the beastman models, since I played them in Mordheim, and thought. Wouldn't it be cool to make a 40K army of beastmen. I searched the net, and saw that some people had done some beastmen as attachments to their guard or as individual squads, but not an entire army of them. I also wanted to keep them as "feral" as possible becuase I haven't decided if I will be using these as "traitor" guard or some type of inducted regiment. I know that some of the old fluff includes beastmen abhumans.

My plan is to use the Gor models for my basic infantryman, the ungor models for conscripts, the bestigor models for veterans and commisars, centigors for roughriders and minotaurs for ogryn. And of course shamans and the like for sanctioned psykers.

Anyway, onto the pics, I hope they load from the DAKKA gallery.

My various bits, including gor bodies, heads and horns, Ungor bodies and heads, and various catachan arms and weapons bits.

Heavy weapons team. (Note that the gunner hasn't had greenstuff added yet) Also note that I removed all Imperial icons from the weapons, becuase I'm not sure if these guys are going to be traitors or not yet. I'm thinking that they probably will be, since they have those Chaos icons on their belts and necklaces. ;-}

Close up of the Gor gunner conversion. I had to cut the leg at the knee and remove some of the leg, and glue them in the kneeling position. (Pics are pre greenstuff)

Some closeups of the legs after greenstuff.

Here are some pics of the ungor. Note how the arms don't line up real well. I put enough glue to hold them in place before I greenstuffed it.

Onto the Gor plasma gunner. The same basic problem as the ungor with the arms not lining up that well. Although their wasn't near as much gap as with the ungor.

Allright so I'm pretty happy how these guys are shaping up. I'm a little worried about the ungors "broad back" but I think once I get paint on it, it will look good.

I'm going to work on some Gors with lasguns and will post pics of them before I start painting up the test color schemes.

Nice - the catachan arms look great. The way you're going they're clearly chaos so far, so I'd embrace that. Although, it might work to do human officers (or at least beast officers with clothing on the upper torso.)

OK update time. I've decided on a background theme for these beastmen. I will call them the "Cabalists of Chinchare". The idea is that they are a group of slavers that originate from the Chinchare Sub Sector. They have dealings with chaos and attack the imperium on the fringes, gathering war material and slaves to work the mines on Chinchare prime. Chinchare is mentioned in the Eye of Terror codex and has some back story of Inquisitor Eisenhorn actually purging some cultists who were worshiping a "corrupted crystal known as 'The Lith'". So as I develop the back story for these beastmen, maybe they are remnants of the cultists, or another group that the Lith has corrupted.

On to the pictures

I scrounged my bits box and found some Chaos Land raider spikey bits that I had originally intended to use on some terrain. I thought that they would make for some interesting defensive barricades for the heavy weapons teams. Tell me what you think.

I finished assembling and adding greenstuff to the rest of the ungors(conscripts)

So now that I have finished assembling the first batch I'm going to start painting, and hope to have some pics of the painted guys in the next week or so.

This is a pretty cool concept, i think the spikey bits look ok, i'm not really sure what you could do to make them look better though.

I'll be eagerly awaiting some paint on these guys!!

So... been busy painting up the ungor conscripts, as well as building up some heavy weapons and converting up some officers and commisars. A little bit more back ground fluff....The Cabalists of Chincare are slavers that worship the Lith of Chincare. The Lith is a huge red glowing crystalline structure that juts out of the ground around the mines of Chincare. The crystal is sentient and tainted by chaos. The Cabalists capture their victims and bring them to work the mines and some unlucky candidates to the Lith itself for "conversion". Sometimes, the Lith shows mercy and "Converts" the captive and mutates them into a new Cabalist. New "converts" start out as the ungor conscripts and the more they are in contact with the Lith the more they are mutated into the larger more powerfull gor like creatures. Captured Ogryns are immediatly brough to the Lith for Conversion, upon which those that survive are mutated into large Bull like creatures. (Minotaurs)

The Ungors are not finished yet, but I wanted to post a WIP picture to get some comments.

The arsenal grows...I also have some missile launchers ready to go, but will wait until I have them painted to post pics.

Platoon commanders, Junior officers. Made from the bestigors and a chaos marauder cloak. I'm thinking I need to get some guitar string to make them more "40kish"..They look good as is, but want to scifi them up a bit...suggestions?

Commisars..I really like the way these guys have turned out. The body and cloak and arms are fantasy chaos warrior bits. The heads and legs are from the new bestigors. I want to do some stuff to make them more sci-fi as well. Just adding a bolt pistol doesn't seem to be enough...again any suggestions would be appreciated.

That's it for now.. I should be able to finish the conscripts this week and will start working the heavy weapons teams. I'm thinking about posting a short story in the fan fiction section on the Cabalists as well.
