Hey all, here is the first few completed Space Wolves I have painted. They are my first real attempt at painting my minis beyond a one two three, basecoat, weapon and shoulder pads. Basecoat is a 50/50 mix of Space Wolf Grey and Shadow Grey. Furs are based and layered with a few of the different browns and dry brushed. Armor highlights with space wolf grey. Shoulder pads are Iyanden Darksun. Bases are Astronomicon Grey. Although I was leaning toward an icy or snow type base, most boards I play on are the green mat or possibly a desert or two so I went for the versatility of gravel and grass. I have an entire army to paint and at the rate it took me to do these three guys, I already won't be finished for a while. Mostly interested in a high quality look from 2 feet away (viewed while gaming), although some closer inspection detail is nice. Anyways thanks for taking a look and any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

edit: I realize my photographing system sucks, any suggestions on that also would be great. The brighter light I use the more shadows seems to mess it up, and the flash just makes them look crazy bad.

Looks nice. Maybe splash them with an ink or watered down black to bring out some details. Otherwise they look quite rich and well painted for "tabletop quality".
I am also quite pleased to hear your reasoning with the bases. It can look really odd with snowy bases on most tables, IMO. I to use neutral bases for my SW.

Keep up the good work and enjoy the slow process. I bought an assault squad friday, assembled them on friday night, and had them all painted to the best of my ability by saturday evening. And that included converting one of them to a jump pack Rune priest. And now I dont know what to do. Build scenery maybe?

Yeah the photography makes it pretty hard to see the detail. I would say do some darklining and add some more contrasting colours, get some shadow into the recesses of the armour and bring out some highlights as well. As to photography it is probably wise to invest in a daylight bulb and shine the lamp directly at the mini taking care to look at how the light is reacting to avoid glares (i use a white light tent which helps to evenly diffuse light around the models.) Also use a tripod and the timer setting to avoid shakes at least when doing final photos of your work. Mini photography is a lot harder than what you might think, my regular photography is great but i cannot master gettting good pics of my minis yet!!!
