this is my first blog - and it is about something I really did not want to do....building another Imperial Guard army.

This time my eyes fell on the new Elysian Drop Troop vehicles from good old Forgeworld. I always loved the minis but did not like the idea of having standard imperial vehicles for this very fast regiment. So it was pretty easy to denie my own wish for these absolutely great minis.

BUT......Forgeworld started this new line of vehicles which in my opinion fit perfectly - and i was wasted

The first order were 2 Tauros Venator kits to start with and afterwards the long process of finding the right colour scheme began (i am always very anxious in finding the correct colours).

Finally I chose a desert style colour scheme consisting mainly of the Citadel Colour Dheneb Stone. As this is a Foundation you need lots of water and 2-3 layers of paint (after the priming - i always use black).
The vehicle was afterwards chipped with a mixture of Chaos Black and Charadon Granite (1:1 roughly). Finally I used a large ammount if the new Forgeworld weathering powder (Dark Earth in this case).

Just a tip : be careful with this stuff as it will be impossible to get it out of clothes and other farbics well my mistake

The vehicles crew is also painted in Dheneb Stone, but the armour plates are Bestial Brown followed by a layer of Snakebite Leather. The safety straps are Scorched Brown highlighted with Bestial Brown. Faces are made the way GW suggestes - first Tallarn Flesh, then a few layers of Ogryn Flesh and afterwards a Dwarf Flesh Bleached Bone mixture (1:1 roughly).

The helmets visor is painted Regal Blue, followed by Enchanted Blue, a mixture of Enchanted Blue and Skull White (1:2 or more - dont like the Ice Blue here) and finally some very few stripes with Skull White only.

With the first one finished i started with number 2 while waiting for my Forgeworld order.

That is : 2 Taurus Attack Vehicles, 1 Command Squad, 2 Squads and 1 Heavy Bolter squad, alongside with the Elysian Weapon Package (dont like grenade launchers at all - plasmas and melter rule !!!)

The pictures show the first vehicle and the way I prepare the second for priming.

When the order arrives I will of course post some more pics of the ongoing work.

Hi this is the 1st update on the 43rd Arkadian.

As I am still waiting for my Forgeworld order it is only a few tips.

The first picture is just the 2nd Venator with its first layer of Dheneb Stone,
Second is a tip how to assemble the missile launcher to the chassis - it works best if you use a sharp knife and remove the screws on the side first.

Thats it for now - hope the guys in brown will drop by in the very near future....

Tauros Venator is 50 points plus the Lascannons (+15) and the 2 HK missiles (+10 each).

so its 85 points per Venator....

my regiment now consits of 170 points

time to expand....

All looking great looking forward to seeing more i particularly like the visors on the helmets lenses and glass effects are some thing I personally struggle with to get right yours look great though.

Nice work, keep at it. IG have always been my favorite 40k army, and the Elysian line looks amazing.

got some more pics of the 2nd Venator - during construction and FINISHED !!!!

and furthermore a first look at the junior officer of the command squad.

i will now continue with the rest of the command squad and thereafter paint the heavy bolter squad and the 2 missing Tauros Assault vehicles. looking forward to do these - just love the gunners "backseat" position.
as i still have a little argument with forgeworld about the 2 squads casting quality it will take a while until they will be ready. will keep you updated.

i am planning on building 1000pts, but still not sure wether to make them "alone playable" considering rules or to build them to support my Death Korps of Krieg army which also awaits more troops. will be providing pictures of these in another blog to come....

what do you think ??? add 3 drop sentinels ??? dont like tanks for these guys....maybe another Valkyrie (own already one in cadian colours).....or some more Tauros ???? HELP !!!!!

Love the Elysian Models, your painting skills are doing them justice...........might have to buy me a small force!!

Good lord this is good stuff, shames me with my own lacking skills.

okay - i know i had you waiting quite a long time and believe i am sorry for that, but there is this crazy thing called "real life"

finally i am able to post some more Elysian pictures. finished the Command Squad as well as the Heavy Bolter Squad. as a bonus i will show a first picture of the small Tauros nearly finished - looks like it was just finished at the forgeworld and its crew taking it out for a first ride - definitely unusable on the battlefield looking like this. so again some chipping and weathering to be done. i do not enter any WIP pictures as they would look like the Venator vehicles.

only real problem with the small Tauros was the gunners position - my idea was to cut the sidestraps, that hold the gunner in place. this was necessary to bring him into a correct position (well we all know the fitting problems of forgeworld minis...)

the army looks like this so far :

Troops :

Platoon Command Squad with Melta Gun, Vox-Caster at 50 pts
Heavy Bolter Squad at 80 pts

Fast Attack

Tauros Venator Squadron (2 vehicles) with Twin-linked Las Cannons and 2 HK missiles each at 170 pts
Tauros Squadron (1 vehicle with Grenade Launcher) at 45pts

makes a total of 345 points TUSH !!!!

i know still a lot of work to do, but the darker season will be coming soon.....

i have a few regular troops to paint and another small Tauros. after that i will turn to the 2nd troops choice as well as a HQ Command Squad. next will be a Drop Sentinel Squad and probably a new Valkyrie with the seated troopers (really like this set).

as always - what do you think ? suggestions on troop development and painting tips are always welcome....

Wow! These look great! Quick question on the venerator, is the diameter of the turret compatible with the standard rhino turret? If so, that would make for an awesome razorback conversion.

Those Forgeworld vehicles look great, nice job!

looks kinda weird. if you put it in the hole its nearly 3-4 millimeter each side.

Hello again....

got some more pics of the small Venator - now finished (chipped and weathered).
i figured to do a little freehand on it (dont think you see it on the pics as i was getting carried away again with the weathering powder )

the picture of the rear view shows a palm (well at least i wanted it to look like one) - somewhat like the German Afrika Korps during WWII. the sides feature the "43rd" and the word "Arkadia" to pay contribution to the regiments home planet.

just started with the first regular squad - will take some time until this will be finished as work and kids are really time consuming at the moment

Finally I return to DakkaDakka....

Had some real troubling times last year. Therefore my miniatures output was well below standard. We moved to a new house and had some serious problems during the building process and thereafter.....nevertheless problems are being solved and I can continue with my 43rd Arkadian Regiment.

Currently I am working on a Valkyrie with the seated Troopers inside...

Think the troopers might be finished in about a few days work.
