Heya, bout to pick up the new Demolisher kit and want to magnetize it so I can swap out the main gun as well as the sponsons. Is the kit able to do this without heavy conversion? Will I need to do some hacking / drilling / GS'ing?

Thanks!

You might need to carve out a chunk here and there to slap a magnet in, but it won't be hard.

I can't tell you 100% as I haven't seen it, but I can make a very educated guess based off of three other tidbits

1.) The new chimera looks like they tried as hard as possible to make it so that you couldn't magnetize things. Multiple parts (a multilaser and a heavy bolter that both glue to a plate to which a heavy flamer can't be mounted, and a heavy flamer can't be mounted to a place that has the plate for the heavy bolter), with very, very low surface area.

2.) The old demolisher kits were horrendous for magnetizing. Not only was it trying to get heavy metal pieces to magnetize to relatively low surface area plastic parts, but the sponsons were an absolute no-go. Looking at the model, it very much looks like they kept the sponson assembly the same, and the demolisher cannon is probably also still a metal part.

3.) GW tries as hard as it can to prevent multi-use of their products. They want you to buy a heavy weapons team and then, despite however many extra bitz you have, another whole heavy weapons team if you want another, for example. It's one of the reasons why everything needs to be glued down in order to stay in place.

As such, if I were you, I'd buy a regular LRBT (all plastic), rather than a demolisher/executioner/punisher model (part metal, and much more expensive), and then do a little bit of conversion work to turn the regular russ into a demolisher (shortening the barrel, throwing a little extra armor on the turret, and you're done). Or, once you get REALLY good with plasticard, it is definitely possible to make a passable demolisher (albeit with lower tread wells) out of a chimera.

As someone who has owned the previous demolisher kit, it's certain they make it difficult to even assemble, let alone customize it. The old demolisher kit was the WORST, the cannon didn't even match up with the turret.

I'm excited to use the plasma cannon and gatling gun options, so this kit is a must for me.

Oh, it can be done!

I've had one done for me on commission, and while I don't have the actual model in hand yet, I've seen pictures - it is doable!

Are you expecting it soon? Can you snap some pictures / give some details? Thanks!

I have already added magnets to this kit, mainly 1/8" ones inside the main gun.
It was one of the less painful magnet jobs I have done:

See picture of what I did for the sponsons and the turret:

They hold on really tight so it seems to be a successful change.

Just fit as big a magnet you can in the turret.
