Hey Dakka, I'm not exactly a great painter, and I don't have an eye for what color combinations work well. My first armies were 'crons and orks, and those didn't provide much of a challenge, at least conceptually.

Now I'm starting a Marine painting project. A BA successor chapter modeled after my school's colors, to celebrate my graduation. Tentative name is the Blood Eagles.

So, execution aside, how do these look for color schemes? The darkish color on the joints and pads is going to be tin bitz accented by bronze, but the pads will be shining gold on sarges or veterans. The gold areas are, well, shining gold.

The DC scheme is similar, but there will be a gold cross over the right pauldron and kneepad in the DC style.

In both cases the red is going to be red gore over a black basecoat, highlighted with mechrite red. I want to red segments of it to be a deep maroon, and testing on some AoBR marines shows that this is pretty much the color I want.

Gathering the Informations.

Personally, I'd replace the grey bits with a more contrasting color.

Or I'd trash the red and use something like Necron Abyss/Liche Purple.

I would just go with the DC theme for the main it's sweet

I think it looks a lot better on the actual model. The metallic of the tin bitz offsets the ceramic maroon armor, but I can't really illustrate that with the paint simulator.

Color-wise, the maroon has to stay. It's gonna be maroon and gold as the colors that stand out the most on the model. I went with tin bitz because it doesn't stand out terribly next to the maroon armor.

Do you have any suggestions as to what else I could use to that effect?
