Well as the long title indicates I did a kitbash tonight of some plastic cadians and some plastic void junkers. I ordered the junker sprues from scotia grendel http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_64&products_id=432 They've got some pretty interesting stuff, worth a look for sure.

The junkers are cheap, I got enough sprues to make 20 of them, with shipping it was like 14gbp. Not bad at all. The great thing about kitbashing with cadians is the arms are actually quite useful, they have rounded ball joints that can be cut on many different angles to vary the pose of each model. They're also really easy to add 40k weapons too. The shotguns look decent, they match well with heroic scale stuff. The shields are just awesome, they're begging for some forgeworld brass aquilas. This kit is great for converting arbites too. I plan on runnig these as standard vets with shotguns or grenadier vets, the shields give them the 4+ armor save rather than carapace armor.

The heads are from pig iron productions.

Not sure what to do with the leftover bits, the junker legs are in a bit of a wide stance and because there's only 2 variations they're really repedative. With that said I think they'd be a cool startig point for converting some imperial assassins or other inquisitorial operatves. I can see some potential for tau human auxilia too.

Really cool so far, nice riot shield sits very well with the pig iron heads. To me the shield looks a little too smooth, maybe damage it up a bit? Looking foward to seeing them painted.

I really like these, they look absolutely ace.

However, without shoulderpads they look kinda odd. Why not give them the roman style ones that come with the void sprues? it'll make them look big and bulky?

Great seeing more void stuff in use! Check out ArbitorIan's penal legion blog, that's an army of these critters.

I also use them for penal's, and the spare legs work well for making cadian-esque rough riders, a minium of saddle filing and they fit an empire horse (pointy-out foot's an east tweak).

Have a gander at the buggies for junkers, too, for tauros alternatives. Keep on bloggin' (and apologies for ~thread jack!)!

I might add some battle damage, drill some bullet holes. I wish I had ordered some forgeworld brass aquilas, they'd be perfect.

The void ones sit too high up I find. Also, my thoughts are with all the weight of the shield and it being the primary defense I figuered they didn't need shoulder pads.

That's actually an awesome idea, I never thought of using the void legs for rough riders. I may have to try that.

Awesome job. I agree with adding some damage on the shields, I would love to see on with a large blast on one of the corners.

Looks really cool! Only thing is that with the flamer guy, I'd actually cut off the fuel tank on the flamer and attach a bit of wire to act as a hose from the tank on his back. It just doesn't seem to quite make sense to have a tank of promethium on his back when he already has another one on his flamer...

Yeah it does look a little odd having the two tanks, I might try and do as you suggested.

If you texturize it or even with a bit of spackle, the shields won't look bad at all. I personally like the look of the lack of shoulder pads.

Looking good, I really like the use of the shields but as others, I would definitely like to see some battle damage just to... liven them up ^^

Even if the shields just had a good textured paintjob, I think it would be okay, but if you're going to do them as a flat color, then there has to be something to break up the flat surface.

Gotta agree with Power Cosmic on this one. Some of those mold lines are really bad, and if they look that bad without paint, it's going to take away from otherwise great models. Also, I'm a fan of drilling out barrels, so I'd toss that suggestion.

If not shoulder pads, maybe get some greenstuff and smooth out the transitions, right now it's really rough between the top of the shoulder and the start of the arm.

I do love those shields. Need to look into some of them for a base shield for some of my marines.

Great job, that inspires me to make some new IG conversions using those models. And it looks like those plastics mix well with the citadel range.

Nice work.

A few scratches or bullet impacts make a big difference.
Some notches in the edges of the shields might be a nice touch too (the shield bash being an effective cc attack).

Looks neat, definitely very unique. I agree that the shoulders need a little love in the transition. They look sorta like bare arms in vests until you get to the sleeve...not the most attractive look. Might just be an optical illusion too with the contrast between material colors.

I hope you blue-tacked that stuff in, cause it's gonna be a royal pain to paint around those shields....

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

CLASS!

My only complaint is that the arms look too long. That's a small mark against something that is so very nicely executed.

It's the first time that I've seen really different imperial guardsmen in awhile. I look forward to seeing these painted!

Excellent work!
