Here is a list of all known Space Marine Legions, and their major actions during the Horus Heresy. If anyone else wants to help post their later major actions, like where the traitors retreated to afterwards, go ahead. Also, if anything is wrong, please correct me.

I'm trying to pin down exactly what each legion has done.


Dark Angels-campaigning in "shield worlds", attempt to return but are too late to save Emperor, the rearguard on Caliban are jealous at being left behind and turn to Chaos

2nd Legion-Unknown Legion-???

Emperor's Children-Fulgrim takes them immediately to Horus, and is corrupted by a daemon in his blade. The few remaining loyalists under Captain Saul Tarvitz stand with the loyal legions on Isstvan, but only a handful survive. The Traitors go on to attack Terra

Iron Warriors-part of the second wave on Isstvan, declare for Chaos, and then attack Terra

White Scars-on campaign against Ork when news of Isstvan reaches them, they rush back to Terra in time to defend it

Space Wolves-after Magnus sends his warning to the Emperor, they are dispatched to bring him to face the Emperor, however Horus(before he declares traitor) convinces Russ to launch an all-out attack. They continued to pursue the Thousand Sons to the edge of the Eye of Terror, and did not participate in the rest of the Horus Heresy, arriving on with the Dark Angels just after Horus's death
Imperial Fists-defence of Terra

Night Lords-go traitor at Isstvan V, then travel to the galactic East to divert reinforcements

Blood Angels-defence of Terra

Iron Hands-were massacred at Isstvan V, the survivors spent the rest of the Heresy rebuilding their forces

11th Legion-Unknown Legion-???

World Eaters-declared for Chaos before Isstvan, and fought at Isstvan and Terra

Ultramarines-sent by Horus to the galactic south before the Heresy, then attacked and delayed by the Word Bearers. They arrived at Terra well after the battle, but had suffered few casualties

Death Guard-turned to chaos early on, after the Destroyer Hive infected the majority of the Legion. A couple dozen survivors and a loyal Luna Wolf ran the traitor blockade to bring the news of Isstvan to the Emperor, the traitors then fought in the siege of Terra

Thousand Sons-Magnus knew of Horus's fall, and tried to warn the Emperor via psychic communication. The Emperor believed Horus over Magnus, and when the Space Wolves attacked, Magnus fled to the Eye of Terror

Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus-Horus turns to chaos, possibly manipulated by Lorgar of the Word Bearers. His Legion is so loyal to him the follow, and although some resist, only one loyalist Luna Wolf survives. They are the first full Legion to fall to Chaos

Word Bearers-split their forces, Lorgar takes the greater part to attack Terra, while a secondary force threatens the Ultramarine's home systems, preventing their reinforcement of the Emperor

Salamanders-massacred on Isstvan V, spend the rest of the Heresy rebuilding

Raven Guard-decimated at Isstvan, rumored that Corax used defective cloning to replenish his numbers, as Raven Guard forces drove bestial monsters ahead of them to attack Iron Warriors positions during minor battles of the Heresy

Alpha Legion-turn traitor at Isstvan, then split up to delay loyal reinforcements to Terra

Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors have a post heresy grudge match in an iron cage!

The Word Bearers fell to Chaos before the Luna Wolves.

A little amendment on the space wolves and dark angels.
IIRC, it was news of their impending arrival -they were travelling to Earth together while securing key worlds that had rebelled en route- that caused Horus to lower his ship and shields to lure the emperor on board.
