Hey guys! I am failr new to Dakka Dakka. Thanks for making the forum fun!

Anyway, I collect Tau and IG, why? well, I originally fantazied about a Black Templar army, but when someone recommened to buy the army I would enjoy paiting the most, I thought it made alot of sense, since I paint all my models...eventually. Combat to me is all about urban-ness. Stalingrad. Field battles are often quick and decisive, wheras you can fight for days for 1 house. And in Urban combat, alot of technology is rendered useless unless you jusy don't care for the city and bomb the crap out of it.

Here are some of my Units. Comment and Enjoy!

Very nice modeling and greenstuff, as well as a great urban color scheme! I dig it.

First of all I would change the topic name to "New guy with models" because now it's a little missleading.

I don't like the stippling you painted on the tank and trims on that sniper are all over the place.

Paint scheme is boring (exept on the stealth suit).

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

I'm going to have to agree with illuknisaa. Guy with models is much better and you might want to consider getting an airbrush for the type of scheme your going for.

+1 on thinning paints/more coats. I'm sure the paint job looks like it's covering well under your normal working light, but under other lighting you can see the issues with it - camera flashes will bring out the worst in models, that's for sure.

I trust that at some point in your extensive 40k career you grabbed your first batch of models aswell. Hence, the above. Those are my first Tau. sure I have been painting LoTR and fantasy for3-4 years now, but urban orcs, gondorians and highelves is not something I have tackled yet. Yes I admit, the standard troopers (white and grey) is shaby. It looked better with clean white and grey, except urban soldiers aren't in a parade. As for the Camo on the Devilfish, yes, it isn't camo, I just wanted to break up a flat grey. I will work on them more. summer is here. Lots of time on my hands. Enough money to really get going and enough comments to keep me going. Thanks for posting.

P.S. Your opinion is valued my friend, but please don't say "I don't like" because they do happen to be my modles which I do like. I will work on them though and let you know how it is all going. Best of luck in the World Cup.

Thanks for commenting. I changed the title as requested, now some advice beyond "I agree with" and " I don't like" is appreciated. And a many big thanks to those of you who were kind enough to comment, critizice, and encourage.

Welcome to Dakka! Now, onto the criticism that I hope will be more constructive than previous posts...

Devilfish (that is a Devilfish, right? Not too familiar with Tau...): While I can understand your desire to break up the gray, right now it looks like a few patches of lighter gray were applied, at random. They just look out of place. I think you're in between two options, either of which works - just the middle ground doesn't. I'd either go all out and do a full urban camo scheme - even a simple one with large patches of color - or restrict the lighter gray to individual panels. The model has plenty of panel lines that would make it easy to select "trim" panels to do in a lighter color. It wouldn't be more light gray than you currently have, it'd just be more focused.

Crisis Suit: You've got a decent looking scheme. Try thinning your paints and using multiple coats. It'd look great as-is, just with a slightly smoother finish.

Fire Warriors: These guys are your weakest link. Looks like a lot of paint, stippled and dry-brushed unevenly. If you want them to look dirty, I'd suggest painting them cleanly, then dirtying them, if you get my meaning. Detailed, realistically-scaled camo doesn't translate down to this scale, so I'd suggest trying to get a clean, simplified scheme. There are plenty of camo tutorials floating around (especially for IG, but it translates just fine) you should check out.

Stealth Suit: My favorite of the lot. I love the effect you went for, like an electrical stealth field flowing over the suit and blending it with concrete, caught just after being powered up. Right. Criticism. Uh... I guess maybe the eye lens could use to be brightened up a bit.

Kroot: Looking pretty good. Perhaps clean up the white on the rifle, then dirty it to taste with a Devlan Mud wash.

I dig the pose of the assassin-looking guy, the weapons just don't seem very Tau, to me.

All in all, I think you're off to a good start. Plenty of room for improvement, but I think it's all VERY achievable. You could have these models looking damn spiffy in no time. Heck, take my advice and you'll be doing better than I am! I have a decent eye, but I paint so little that my hands have yet to catch up.

Hey me too!I just love city fighting. Anyways, your models are really nice, but I would thin down your paints. The camo is a bit cluttered and makes it hard to see(which ironically is what you want irl, but not when you want to show folks your models!)You can fix that pretty easily though. How long have you been painting?

I have been painting 40k, well I started about 6-7 months ago, but highschool is a B with an itch timewise so I have only painted a staggering small amount of models. I have painted fantasy for about 3 years and LoTR for about 4-5. Thanks for the comments guys!
