Codex: Orks
"kustom force field: A kustokm force field gives all units within 6" of the mek 5+ cover save. Vehicles within 6" count as obscured targets"

BRB
"obscured target:if a piece of wargear would count a vehicle as obscured while not in cover, The vehicle gets a 4+ cover save, unless noted in the codex"

Cut and dry.. infantry units get 5+ cover, Vehicles get 4+ cover

*bold in quotes added by me*

It is noted in the codex that the KFF gives units-which includes vehicles-a 5+ save.

-Edited by the Modquisition- the codex doesnt say hey vehicles get 5+ cover.. it says units.. meaning infantry.. and obscured is for vehicles.. and gives 4+ ... so 4+ is better than 5+ so you take 4 +

No need to be rude to the guy. His logic is sound. Let's step through this slowly.

First of all, we all know that Codex > BRB.

Precedent: Dark Angels Bikes Scout Move. The BRB says they can use their turbo-boost to scout. The Codex says they cannot. Hence, they cannot. (Not, at least according to the INAT)

The Codex says that all units within 6" of the Mek gain a 5+ cover save. Now, you, the person calling others stupid, are playing this game without realizing that every model you purchase is a "unit" or belongs to a unit of some sort? Look under every profile in your Codex. What do you see under Nobz?

Unit Composition:
3-10 Nobz

What do you see under Stormboyz?

Unit Composition:
5-20 Stormboyz

What do you see under Battlewagon?

Unit Composition:
1 Battlewagon

Vehicles = Units. Now, the only caveat in this whole argument is that the Codex proceeds to say that Vehicles count as obscured. A vehicle counting as obscured by the BRB gets a 4+ save.

So which is it?

The reason I would go with the vehicle getting a 4+ save is because the Codex says "Vehicles count as obscured." If the codex left it at "All units get a 5+ save." then everyone would be happy. It's that last sentence that screws it up. And since that last sentence comes after the 5+ sentence, you have to go with the vehicle being "obscured". The vehicle being "obscured" gives it a 4+ save, despite it being a unit within 6".

So, before you call someone stupid and berate them for debating a rule, maybe take a moment to realize the logic of their question. Units =/= infantry. Units = everything. It's a battle of semantics, grammar and syntax.

Under the couch

...and we're done here.

Seriously. This has been done to death, and the rapid degeneration of the thread, and resultant work cleaning up the thread means that I have no interest in watching it all play out all over again.

There are two common ways the rule is interpreted. No matter how many times someone presents the arguments, people will disagree. We'll all just have to learn to accept that and discuss it with our opponents before the game.
