Actually, to be honest, I'll probably only be there for a couple 'shifts' to help out DP9.... Then a couple more at the minis area: We're doing a 'challenge the staff' event where you can crush us mercilessly at Heavy Gear in return for raffle tickets.

I liked the bitz van! Still have some window frames and such bought from them for scenery projects I never got around to. It was a great 'reward' for FLGS to get. The van would visit and offer deals and was a great way to attract people for ane vent.

There is another option..

Gencon has an Exclusivity Contract companies can fill out listing product that no other vendor is allowed to sell during a given year.

while I could see GW pulling a dick move like that, from a purely business standpoint I can imagine they would do that, even though they dont get full profit on 3rd party sales, they still sell a crap ton of stuff through 3rd parties. I wonder what the ROI would look like on doing something like that on say...the 6th edition starter set...

Well that would be the standard MO for them. All the prior GenCons they attended had exclusivity enforced. Though those events also had much larger booths with all sorts of product. It seems the key factor will be if they did have merchandise for sale.

Also, when did a GW store open up in Indy?

It was only about 4 months ago or so. It is on the north side (near Keystone At The Crossing), but I haven't been there. I have no reason to go when I have the Game Preserve less than 2 mmiles from my house, where that is almost 30.

I swear to almighty god if they do this I'm quitting 40k and fantasy.

I was excited at the prospect of watching GW scratch their noodle over why they weren't selling as much as the warstore booth (The concept of 'sale' and 'discount' being abhorent or entirely foreign to them). But if this happens someone might get egged.

If GW is going to be there and if it brings stock to sell (even side by side with warstore) I still believe it will sell a lot... GW fans/clients do seem a bit price insensitive to be honest.
At salute GW was not missed and FW just got 5 minutes of my attention in a full day event... with so many better cheaper things to spend money on if I was going to buy GW even on discount my 100 gold coins would have not produced a full year of miniatures worth.

Seems the end times are here....not only is GW going to be at forgeworld, but GW will also have something in the Gen Con Coupon book...any bets on the coupon being a free intro game?

It is sort of interesting if you look at the GW neighborhood.

The Warstore will likely have almost everything that GW might have...and be selling it at a 20% discount (just to start with). Kitty corner from them, you have Wargames Factory in booth 1649 - selling hard plastic at fractions of the GW prices (leaving the issue of quality out of it for the time being).

Be interesting to see the traffic patterns.

Sneak into the convention center at night and egg/TP their booth?

Best part about GW possibly selling stuff is that now they have an Indiana store, they will probably be one of the few exhibitors charging tax.

The two Forge World event figures will be there, according to last week's newsletter. I've posted this in another thread, but it seems appropriate here.

August 16th to 19th will see us travelling to Indianapolis, IA, for GenCon 2012 where we’ll be joining the guys from Games Workshop and the Black Library. Alongside a wide selection of our range, attendees will also be able to buy our 2012 Event Only models: the Skin Wolf and Imperial Enforcer.

August 16th to 19th will see us travelling to Indianapolis, IA, for GenCon 2012...

So they're headed to a convention, but have no idea what state it's in? It has to be a typo, but that's hilarious.

I'd like to listen to that conversion with the airline, I could see the forgeworld people trying to tell them that Indy is in Iowa

There is actually AN Indianapolis in Iowa, but it's an "unincorporated community" not even large enough to be quantified as a town. From the image on Google Maps, it just looks like one guy's house and adjacent fields, lol. On second thought, let's go ahead and send the forgeworld guys over there, the look on their faces would be great, but the looks they get from the farmer that lives there would be priceless.

i dont see them on the floor plan of the dealers hall. GW has never had an official presence at least the last couple of years that i have been attending gen con.

also the amount of retailers that go every year either selling loose bits or gw products on discount would give them a heart attack.

i know that maybe 1-2 gw events go on every year and some players may do a net meet up to get a few games, but GW coming to gen con in strength i can't see them doing.

Don't have it in front of my - but it was something like Booth 1749 - right next to The Warstore across from entrepreneur alley.

Hmm after looking at the map, GW is in 1743....the warstore...is in 1733...literally right next to GW. Seems a little odd...cant imagine GW will be selling anything at gen con other then maybe a show only fig?

And yet this will be just after that August WD is released and if rumours are true potentially a shed load of new plastic will be on display/sale. I could see many going to look at 6th Ed and maybe trying it out and walking away with arms full of new flyers/Starter boxes, I'd stock the Warstore/anyone doesnt possess.

GW isnt missed at Salute as almost every other stand there carries their stock, it would be an exercise in pointlessness. I was suprised that Battlefront made quite rhe effort they did as most were selling FoW at discount too though they were pushing a new Edition also.

As for the FW stand at Salute it was about 3 deep all day, I don't see Gencon being any different.

Does Gencon get a lot of the Warhammer crowd? I didn't see much when I looked a couple years ago, but I didn't look very hard.

There were several booths that had 40k stuff. One had "used" bins, which were sorted by race and full of painted minis, bits, and such. That booth was ALWAYS packed.

There were other booths that had boxed sets for sale, usually at a 20% discount. Also fairly crowded. The WarStore, which sold GW as well as board games, bases, and other stuff, was also pretty busy. I picked up some Kromlech bits and Micro-Arts Studio stuff at a booth, too.

So, yeah. It's got enough gamers there that play 40k that will be excited about Forge World, I would think.

I think its all going to come down to what is being sold at the GW booth other then the show only FW models, if FW is taking orders for its full line of stuff, or if GW is selling some pre-release stuff then they will be packed and make a killing.

Lots of people would pay full price to get something a week or two early

From Gen Cons facebook

The Black Library will showcase some of their brand new products at Booth #1743 at Gen Con Indy 2012. There, you can get your hands on a large amount of pre-release books and Direct Exclusive titles.

The latest Horus Heresy novel ‘Fear to Tread’ will be available at Gen Con weeks before it’s in stores, and there also will be a range of Event Exclusive art prints that have never been on sale in America outside of Games Day.

That makes sense. I'd guess there's many, like myself, who only really are into the fiction aspect oft he 40k setting and might be willing to stand in line for a book or two.
