These are amazing. What is the size comparison against a rhino?

Do you have plans on doing something along the lines of a repressor?

Either way these look great.

Thanks for the kind words

There is a size comparison here: http://nothingunpainted.blogspot.com/2013/03/cardboard-tank-m113-apc.html

This model was a test to see how easy it was to make a card APC... all things are possible from here

Just an update on a new variation on this kit.

This is modification of the basic APC kit that has a flatbed.

The same kit will be able to be built two ways: as an engineering / transport options (top) or as an artillery platform (bottom).

These photos are the test builds... there are one or two minor bugs I found that I need to correct but overall things went well. The arches on the back of the transporter are a little fiddly to build and need to be bulkier and there are some improvements to be made in how the scoop is attached to the chassis for the transporter (I just glued it on any old how here)

The digging scoop can be mounted in the front or can be inverted and mounted on the back an artillery spade (to stop the entire vehicle lurching backwards when it fires).

There is also a hedgerow cutter because of the omnipresent threat of hedgerows o'er the battlefields of the far future

Thanks for the kind words. I'm making these to be compatible with my artillery pieces but sure they will fit parts from other manufacturers. It's just a flatbed after all

The number one comment / criticism I get about these is "why card? why not resin or plastic? Card is so weak and can't stand up to handling on the tabletop."

So I figured out how to use Windows Movie Maker did this yesterday.

Kind regards
Neal

I messed around with doing some chaos doors and hatches for the generic APC this weekend.

I did three different variations and painted up one of them. I'll do another one this week.

Oh cool. I seen your stuff a while ago and its nice to see that your still developing kits. Is there an ETA for the chaotic version to be up on your webstore along with that glyph kit (if it is to be released separately)? Though the card may perhaps restrict the detail that you can put into the models, its hardly something that a little plasticard can't solve on the buyer's end.

Thanks for the comment. The intention of this kit, boring as it is to look at in the normal form, is to be the basis of scratchbuilds. The vanilla build is (just like the M113) basically a dull box on wheels.

I'm changing the glyph kit a little bit and it needs to be recut for testing but it should be up at the end of the week or early next week.

I'm open to suggestions on what sort of detail should be added in... anything that can be done in plasticard can certainly be done in normal card. Of course, the exception here would be rivets - can't have enough of those

Oh - The vehicle glyphs will come separately.

Cheers

If you can do etched detail into the card, you could do rivets as a counter-sunk inset rather than sticking out from the surface.

Edit - never mind... just had another look at the open-topped variant, and noticed that you're already doing that...

No worries. As you say, I did a few on the armour panels in case you wanted to use this as a "modern" vehicle but raised rivets are a) more goffik, innit? and b) are great for drybrushing and taking washes.

If you scroll up quite a bit and look for the ork version (or click here) - I covered that one with rivets made from plastic tubing and the effect turned out quite well.

But I want to keep the cost down for the kit so I don't include that. Plus, not everyone has the patience to slice wafers of plastic tubing

Very nice. I wonder how well these would work for a guard army...

They would be good for traitor guard or perhaps PDF... any force that does not have access to standard vehicles and are using some other sort of locally sourced alternative.

I originally made these as scenery, not models... a cheaper way of having a ruined vehicle rather than using an expensive plastic model. Alternatively they were for converting or kitbashing... something to stick bitz on and make unique. So the idea was to use them to do ork trukks or perhaps use as command vehicles or scout vehicles in a larger force that had "normal" models.

The M113 is a boring boring vehicle to look at and so is my APC - but it does have lots of flat surfaces for gluing on bits and doing freehand painting.

The "imperial" version was a concession to people who specifically wanted it to be a substitute for certain other models but it is not really intended for that.

I'm going ahead with the alternatives... the transport and artillery flatbed... I quite like them and they will find a home in my ork and IG armies. My kids also like playing with them, An essential part of the QA process is getting the 4 year old to play with these for a week. If they survive, they will survive the tabletop.

How fiddly are the treads to work with, either the cutting-out part or the assembly part? That's the only thing that really gives me pause about the kit.

The treads are the easiest part actually. They are two pieces. Just glue and fold. You can see the instructions here: http://www.lasercutcard.co.za/download/manuals/instructions.cfm
