Casting update

Hi all – Got another 10 gallons cast today – with 10 gallons last weekend, that puts me at being done with 40 gallons out of an (estimated) 90 gallons of resin to complete the rewards. I’ve got another day next weekend set aside to get through another 10 gallons, which should put me over halfway there.
I admit, I initially freaked out (a bit) when I saw how many flat inserts I’d need to cast - over 2000. They aren’t difficult to cast but it can be rather time-consuming (and somewhat soul-crushing) to hand-pour so many open-faced molds. I gave it some thought, and contacted the folks at Troll Forged Miniatures (
http://trollforged.wordpress.com/). Ed (the proprietor of Troll Forged) has developed a process (and resin formula) for spin-casting resin, which allows for much quicker production times than I can accomplish. The folks at Troll Forged have produced the miniatures for a variety of projects, including most (all?) of the Impact! Miniatures kickstarters, and their own Alien Assimilation Host kickstarter (the models from which are destined to form my new Khorne/Nurgle Daemon army for Warhammer Fantasy). Three or four weeks later, and I now have the finished flat inserts in hand. They look fantastic! I’ll definitely be designing projects in the future with eye toward having the folks at TFM cast them. They’ve done a bang-up job, and really taken a load off me.
Speaking of production, I thought y’all might be interested in seeing a list of what needs to be produced (based on the Backerkit numbers), and what’s been produced so far. As the following numbers indicate, I’ve been focusing on the area terrain bases and water features so far. I’ll be focusing more on the smaller pieces in the near future. Here’s what’s been produced (out of what needs to be produced) so far, with the finished pieces in bold:
106 of 128 Area Terrain Base 3
129 of 173 Area Terrain Base 4
107 of 114 Area Terrain Base 5.1
79 of 127 Area Terrain Base 5.2
476 of 476 Flat Insert: Bare Earth
534 of 534 Flat Insert: Exposed Stone
1030 of 1030 Flat Insert: Tree Stump
?? of 161 Flat Insert: Minefield (no clue how many – I’ve been casting a few each pour and haven’t counted them yet)
17 of 101 Crystal Inserts
33 of 127 Rocky Outcropping Inserts
71 of 71 Objective Markers
5 of 76 Crates
6 of 88 Broken Stone Walls
10 of 61 Reinforced Stone Walls
8 of 88 Stone Walls
71 of 71 Large Marsh
77 of 80 Large Pond
72 of 72 Small Marsh
79 of 79 Small Pond
0 of 72 Gravestones
That’s it for now – I’ll drop a quick note with some updated numbers after next weekend’s casting.
