OK, so this crock has come up twice so far, and it needs to end.
This is not a game. It is not complex software that needs to access loads of features which may or may not be present in a particular version of Android. It's a glorified RSS reader, and the idea that it would take any substantial amount of work to make compatible with a majority of Android phones so large it would dwarf the total iPhone market share by a factor of at least five is ridiculous. The amount of work required to get an app ready for Android release is directly proportional to its complexity and scope - the more stuff inside the phone your software needs to touch, the bigger the chance you'll find a device- or version-specific bug that needs to be addressed - and unless the person coding this news app was a syphilitic monkey mainlining a cocktail of LSD, mescaline, and heroin it should not be remotely complex enough to run into those kinds of issues. People need to stop overstating how difficult it is to develop basic software for Androids in a vain attempt to make Apple's walled, electrified fenced, barbed-wire-surrounded garden seem like a good idea.

But this is great news!
GW is reaching out to those who enjoy another means of receiving their publications.
Since a BIG impulse buy seller is their various publications, it makes only sense to only develop for iOS since that is where they like to sell their "best" product.
For giggles I am sure they will release a few groundbreaking news items exclusively on the app until they realize many of us will ignore it like their other publications...
Ah, tried to be positive, forget-it... I will reserve the space for more music on my phone rather than junk it up with their 'bloat-ware"... hehe... had visions of Nurgle with that statement.

You can clutter your phone with the app, or you can visit a website like dakka OR you could just look at GW's site every Friday for new release information.... the internet's only been around for a few decades now and GW DID spend all the money on redoing their website...

I had my hopes up coming into this thread that the Pyskers app was being revamped. A bit of a letdown.
For the sake of myself and my opponents, I hope that this is a lead in to a re-release.

eBook Editions on the app this November
Free mission | Free formation | Free painting guide
All three of these eBook Digital Editions will be available to download on Warhammer: The App for free this November.
And that's only in the first month! We have plenty more on the way in December and into 2015. The sooner you download the app, the more free stuff you'll be able to enjoy. Automatically Appended Next Post: Slayer of Kings mission
Adamantine Lance formation
Vraesque Malidrach painting guide Automatically Appended Next Post: Just downloaded the app. It uses european dates, which tripped me up for a second or two.

Not that I care about the smartphone OS 'war' but I have always held that Apple users have more money than sense. So if you are touting your expensive hobby to people who are you going to choose? Apple people or cheap people? It's not like you are going to miss anything as I am sure someone will update Dakka on whatever appears on this app.

Downloaded the app for my phone. It's actually super nice for someone like me who doesn't get a lot of time at home to mess around on the computer and is worked blocked for just about everything at work.

Please. Yet another colossal waste of money from GW. $4M on a website ... That fething sucks now a news app so they can direct market to you. Next business plan = spam. Good job fellas. Profits down what 20%? "What we need for our table top war game is an app..."

Responsive? I don't do this often, but; lol.
Click army, wait, click Troops, wait, scroll through multiple duplicate units which are just slightly different builds out of the same box to find what you want, click & wait some more. Hmm, better check that HQ as well, click HQ, realise the screen is still full of Troops, so untick Troops, wait some more. Someone links to a cool new release on the forum? Oops, they were in a different country, better change my flag to get the right price, oops it boots you back to the front page.
Yeah, for £4million, GW's webstore is pretty craptacular, and what makes it suck relative to the old web site is exactly that difference - now the only "content" on offer is What We Want You To Buy Today, and even that is hidden on the front page half the time because of the crappy shifting-tiles "responsive design". Style over substance.

In the promotional e-mail that they sent to advertise the app, there was a little gem of info: a new DE character that we saw flitting around in the new codex:
Pretty sure he'll be the LE character in the new dual box set that's around the corner.

So many modern British retailers have crap websites. Good thing GW is keeping up with that trend at least. It really boggles the mind that they can't get that right. Presumably they are allowed access to see pre launch builds at various stages? Perhaps the person at GW whos job it is to oversee this kind of thing doesn't know what they are doing or maybe it's just us who don't "get it". Yeah, must be that second one...

Nope. He's a conversion of the new Archon model. And not a bad one at that.

Cause he quite clearly is. The spear is from one of the Raider crew arms and the head is from the Reaver Jetbike kit.

The official source is the Raiders of Commorragh painting guide and white dwarf. Vraesque Malidrach is listed as a conversion in the white dwarf, and the painting guide and artwork shown above is in the DE painting guide book.

Responsive?
I've only become aware of this fairly recently but in web dev circles responsive means the same design working fine on a variety of devices - chiefly desktop, tablet and mobile - by automatically adjusting instead of, for example, detecting the user agent and redirecting you to an alternate, mobile version. So yeah, it's what's termed a responsive design. It's probably a large part of why it was (apparently) so expensive.

Huh, I assumed he was using "responsive" in the same sense a person would use it, not a web developer, ie that the site works well, allows them to do what they want quickly and easily etc. Regardless; multiple different types of gak is still gak, it's no more enjoyable to browse on my smartphone than it is on my PC.
Mobile devices really have cocked up web design in general though, it was bad enough when web design as a profession got an Apple-boner a few years back and convinced themselves flashy appearance and minimalist design were more important than conveying information and snappy page loads, the fact they're now also designing "multi-platform" sites that have to account for tiny handheld screens and touch interface makes it even more annoying.
