Like FIFA, GW seem to be avoiding trying to make a truly balanced codex. One moment they release Dark Angels and Chaos the next they release Tau and Eldar which are seen as much stronger. They release Dark Eldar and Blood Angels and then they release Necrons which are also really strong. They almost seem to be trying to break their game and get people complaining and talking, jumping armies and buying the new stuff and leaving their old stuff on the shelves.

What are your thoughts on this comparison? Do you agree? Will they ever try to balance the game?

Football as a game doesn't favor either side to win, it has a balanced simple rules set. Players cheat and clubs pay (buy better players) to win, and the governing bodies can be accused of not stamping out this behavior enough, but the game itself is fine. FIFA, while utterly corrupt, is opposed to replays cause it could affect the pace of the game and to make sure it remains the same in both poor and rich regions, not to mention that the governing body of the rules IFAB is made up of conservative old men opposed to any change by nature.

In 40k on the other hand players don't need to cheat to break the game because GW isn't able to create a balanced rules set even if they wanted to. The changes in power level are needed to keep selling existing players new stuff. GW has learned to move away from powercreep as that only sells the new power units. 7th has shown that random buffs and nerfs force will people to buy stuff they had passed on before without GW having to put any new models on the market.

Fixing 40k means they'll have no reason to make a new edition. New editions means new rulebooks, means enforced purchases.

No, it means less people continuing forking over cash for a mediocre product. If you honestly believe a well made ruleset means no future edition will ever be made, no argument I can make here will show you otherwise. Its just daft to think that.

I'm sure GW would prefer the furore following every update or change to go away. If they wanted chatter, they'd issue rebuttals and 'their side' of the issue. As they stay silent, they must be happy keeping out of it.

I'm sure GW would prefer more money. They can do that be making a better game. Conveniently enough, a better game would also reduce the uproar they get now when they release another shoddy product for a higher price than the last one.

Games like this attract competitive players. It would be literlly impossible for GW to "fix" the game or come up with a set of rules that everyone can agree on. Pretty much no game can. Heck, even playing paper rock scissors or checkers, your going to have people argue.
When you find a game like this, especially such a successfull one where there are different "types" of players and people who are attracted to it for different reasons, your "controversy" is going to be that much worse.

Completely wrong.

Warmahordes and Magic are two examples where what you say doesn't apply. Every single sport played professionally also makes a mockery of what you're arguing.

I have never had an argument playing Rock Paper Scissors or draughts.

I have had one or two issues when learning chess as a kid, but nothing that wasn't solved by checking a rulebook.

It isn't about making a perfect game out of the gate, you're correct in as much as that would be almost impossible, but actively managing the game to buff/nerf as needed, and address rules conflicts as they arise in a timely manner is all perfectly reasonable, and that is what marks GW out from their competitors, they simply can't be arsed.

We aren't asking for perfect (or perfectly imperfect) we're just asking for better, and for them to be seen to be trying.

Check out some of the other games you mention. You will find that it is the same there. You have players omplaining and arguin over which expansion was better. "I hate phasing" "I love phasing", The baltimore Ravens train harder than any other team", The redskins train harder than any other team". ect and so forth.
Everyone wants better (those who realize there is no perfection but even then many who CLAIM to realize that still want it anyway. Then, we get arguments about what is "better" What one thinks is a step ahead, others see as a step back.
You intentionall misunderstoof my post though. I didnt say suck it up buttercup, deal with it. I'm saying to work with it, address issues (true issues, not opinion based issues although they can be acknowledged also) and accept that it takes time and by putting out "editions" it is to a degree a living rulebook that is a work in progress despite the hype they put out with each new edition.

LOL, Time for one person to complain that the game is too rough and they need stricter rules about body contact while others complain that they "arent letting the guys play' and insist that they have less rules regarding body contact......

@Blacksails and others.
I know that GW do their thing to make money, but almost nothing I've seen them do recently has looked like they really have any idea how to make that happen.
Finecast, legal disputes, the lack of FAQs, 1-man stores, continental embargoes, hardback codexes, dropping units in updates, and on it goes.
So, I know it's counter-intuitive to most sensible people, but if GW see rules updates as a money-spinner, they'll drag it out as long as they can.
Since I've not heard anything from them to suggest otherwise, I'll stick with "GW is stoopid" as a reason for anything they will do in the future.
Either that, or they are playing such a complicated long game that no-one but themselves can guess their next move.

I agree that GW seems to be incapable of acting in a reasonable manner like all of its competition. I'm simply disputing that a well done ruleset will never see another edition.

I also agree that GW probably won't ever sort out their rules, but I think the upcoming Warhammer Fantasy Bubbles Edition will be an indicator of what they can do when they decide to make a big change to the rules and/or fluff.
