In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE

My first real game took place just over a year ago, at the FLGS.

Played against a friendly chap who was willing to show me the ropes (read: put up with my incapacity to remember which numbers did what) in a series of little test matches. We decided on 500 pt, I brought a group of Ork Boyz, 4 bikerz, a Warboss (who was also on a bike), and 5 nobz, while he brought a Blood Angels force consisting of a Tac squad and an Assault squad with a Librarian (not sure if he had anything else on the table, my memory's a bit hazy).

Highlights included my Warboss and biker gang making a surprisingly well-executed flanking manoeuvre, the Blood Angel Librarian and his Assault squad fatally underestimating the combat potential of +-15 Choppaz when jumping into my group of Ork Boyz, my Nobz being overwatched to death by a Tac squad, and finally, the depleted Tac squad (which counted three men by the end) surviving my Warboss and bikerz' charge and running them down as the Orks failed miserably at their dice rolls.

We'd laughed when my bikerz flanked the Tac squad hiding in a building, because the building was located so close to the side of the table, that we joked that the Orks would have been forced to drive through the windows to get to the Marines. It got even funnier in the end, when the Warboss and his bikerz were trampled to death by the three surviving Space Marines as they tried to flee out of the building.

I still have this image in my head of the Warboss desperately trying to cram himself through the small window as the three Space Marines start kicking him

6th edition. Brought my Dark Angels half of the DV box after getting them semi painted because "Hey, Dark Angels, they look dope!" Went against a new guy who first game at 500 points proceeded to hand me my own ass, using his Dev squad with lascannons to annihilate everything. Second game, he was much nicer and showed me how I should actually play, giving me tips, explaining LoS, etc.

My first game was in September of 2014, and it was actually in a tournament. I had been told that our local tournaments were not a bad way to learn the game, but OMG I was so nervous because while I had read the whole BRB, I had never actually applied any of it before. Surprisingly, I didn't do too bad as far as getting the rules right, although remembering everyone's stats was tough. My list was total crap on a stick (Dark Angels with Tau allies). My opponent in the first game of that tournament (and therefore my first game ever) was playing Grey Knights. I lost (of course), but I did slay his warlord (a Termie Librarian). The other two games were against a Daemon Flying Circus (not so good for my second game ever!) and Orks. I actually got a draw against the Orks; not too shabby for my first tournament outing and my third game ever! After actually playing a few games that day, I was totally and irreversibly hooked!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

I don't remember the full details but my first real game was using vanilla marines i had painted with blobbed on testors model paint. (I was 12 and that's what I had - model cars and the assorted supplies) - they looked horrible.

But I managed to put together a 1000 pt army and this was right around when 3rd dropped.

First game was those marines vrs an eldar player. I think my list was something like 2 tac squads, a pred ahnilater, (with metal guns) some terminaters and I think a land speeder and maybe a few bikes. Not the best list. The eldar side had an avatar a wraith lord (old metal ones) gaurdians with weapons platforms and warlocks for conceal (that I remember cause it was horrible) and a farseer. I think he also had some reapers and maybe a falcon or 2.

In any case I was demolished. He kept his gaurdians out of Los and just poked the weapon plat out. Meant I couldn't shoot him and that thing tore me up. I recall not being able to do anything to his big units and my guys just kept getting smoked by no armor save weapons. By the end of it - I think I managed to immobilize and weapon destroyed all the Falcons guns - but it was still alive, dinged up the wraith lord and that was about it.

After that i decided space marines were too easy to kill so I went with the other half of the starter box - the DE and played them to great success for almost 12 years.

I started playing in third edition. Orks was my first army. I suppose my first opponent was Blood Angels as that was my friends army. I couldn't even begin to say how it went or who won.

However, I do remember my first Warhammer Fantasy game. It was a demo game about three editions ago, I was some sort of lizard men, my opponent was Chaos. I was pretty reckless, trying out new things. The dice gods loved me and I won anyway. I've never played a game of Fantasy since and so can proudly say that I've retired from Fantasy with an undefeated record.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

Space marines vs space marines vs necrons in 4th edition back around 2004-2005. Basically the two sm fighting each other then realising how tough the necrons were and fighting them instead.

My first game was back in 2005 and was with Fantasy. I had Dark Elves and went up against Chaos Warriors. I had a few blocks of Warriors, Cold One Knights a chariot, Dark Riders a Reaper Bolt Thrower and a Hydra...I thought I was bad ass and my opponents Chaos was half the size and just rolled right over me. It was a hilarious steamrolling.

I don't actually remember the first game of my life, but the first game I can remember correctly was an unbound list with lots of proxies of Orks VS Space Marines.

I won playing the Marines.

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

AoBR, I played Orks and my brother played Marines.

We both had little idea of how the rules worked. We thought the WS chart was like the Wound chart (much to the benefit of the Captain as most things in my army now hit him on a 6+!) but I also thought each deffkopta had, like the models, -two- twinlinked rokkit launchas each, and that you got to subtract BS from its bigbomm scatter.

In the end, I almost always won, which I realise in hindsight was mainly due to my kind brother almost always interpreting rules in my favour.

I still have fond memories of 5th ed and I think it's the best edition I have played, even if my wound allocation shenanigans made my nobz fairly deadly.

Ah AOBR and 5e. The edition I've had about 90% of my games in. None of my friends will let me go back to it, as they all want their shiny Ultrasphess toys.
I still remember getting that AOBR box. Massive grin on my face, and it had been reduced to £40 in the local GW. Brought it home, clipped everything together (thank feth for the clip-on style of AOBR. I may have quit then and there if it was not for that), and hastily set up a game. Finished at around midnight (much later than my parents wold have normally allowed, but it looked like I was having fun). Completely fethed up the rules during turns 1-3, but by T4 I realised most of my mistakes, and got it together. Holy gak. I still remember most of the game. Not enough to give a narrative, but damn.

And now I realize just how much 40k changed me...

I'd have been one boring ass muthertrucker without it, I reckon. And would not have given me one of my best friends. Lawd.

Me playing entirely proxied 7th edition SM vs a friend playing 6th edition Eldar. We didn't quite understand how DSing transports worked, and I ended up putting my units in "group hug" formation around the drop pods. Fun fact: a small blast marker is just a bit larger than a soda can proxying a drop pod, meaning it can hit anything in base contact with the pod if targeting it. Combine this with some cheating good luck on scatter rolls, and I was beaten quite handily.

Starter set scenarios from 2nd edition... I bought the boxed set way back in 1994. Played through the missions with a friend, and we almost had some vague idea of what we were doing by the end of it.

He didn't stick with it, though... I did, obviously

About three months ago. Scenario day at my FLGS. Salamanders list featuring Contemptor Mortis, Deimos Pred and Sicaran. Scenario was lop sided in favor of the defender, and though I offered after each match, the regular players were determined to solve the scenario from the attacker side. Of three games, the longest ended in 2.5 turns (he Deepstriked (Deepstruck?) Tau behind me, immobilized my Contemptor Mortis and Pred, but the Sicaran was able to push on).

Every time I've run the C-Mortis since, it's been the priority target.

I had 500pts of ultramarines and a guy i met at the game store offered to pair with me with 500 pts of salamanderd vs 2 500 pt chaos armies.

This was just after the 3.5 chaos codex. We got smoke checked, but i loved it.

First game was 12 firewarriors and an ethereal vs. 10 boyz, 10 gretchin, and a Big Mek with SAG. He blew up his Big mek and gretchin with the SAG (double 1s, old codex) and I shredded his boyz with overwatch (This was when the 6e tau codex had just come out).

My VERY first game was back when RT was released.
It would have been Space Marines and other random Imperials, against Eldar, Orks, Tyranids and assorted monsters (Ambulls, etc).
I can't remember how it went, but it kept us collecting and gaming that way until around '93.

Then, back in early '11, I got a training game with my AoBR Marines against 'nids.
It was to learn the 5th ed rules and tactics, so I got shot up a lot, but helped. Thanks Mercer

By turn 4 it had to be the saltiest game ever, simply because of XV8's

My first game as marines, I tabled the same guy T1 with Ultramarines, because all his deepstrikes went off the table, whereas I successfully dropped 3 cans of flamer on his ass with my Captain two-shotting his Captain with a Power Sword bc I gave him his own pod XD(back then it should have killed him in 1 round, but I don't own 4th rules anymore so IDK).

My first game was in rogue trader. A handful of beaky marine against another handful of beakie marines to try things out. Eventually lead to the first startings of my khorne chaos marine army and eventually my genestealer chaos cult. Nothing like what games are today.
