I'd allow it for a proxy, in the same vein as allowing a Demon Prince model to proxy for a Hive Tyrant. It certainly doesn't look like a Tyranid is what I'm getting at.

However, if you were playing Demons and you were using that as a Demon Prince/Greater Demon model (appropriately painted of course) then absolutely I'd be cool with it. Alot of Warhammer's Warp/Demon lore is influenced by Cthulhu mythology in the first place after all.

Totally fine with it. Depending on size it may be a decent gargantuan creature instead...

Yeah, I'm not seeing that at all. On top of not looking anything like a Tyranid model it isn't at all WYSIWYG.

I also consider this problematic.

He could easily use that as a proxy for a nurgle daemon prince, though, no?

Yeah. Nurgle DP looks right.

Considering I fielded a Chaos Furby in '99, I'd play against it.
However, I agree with those that class C'thulhu as a Nurgle DP.
Or weaponize him up right if he's gotta be Nid.
Or yes, better to have the whole army match him.

Personally I'd then expect you to bring custom rules that use 40K elements in whatever combo matches Great C'thulhu's own army. If he commanded a 40k style force. Lots if Cultists, freaking wierd stuff, etc. Go read the C'thulhu's RPG sources and translate to war gaming. Then contact me, so I can fight you XD.

That sounds amazing. Chaos Space Marines CAD with cultists and a dark apostle. Allied detachment with a flying daemon prince of nurgle; add various nurgle daemons to fill in the rest of the points?

Why not? Has an aesthetic going for it similar to venomthrope, lictor and ymargl genestealers.

Though, if you're going to use this ongoing, and its supposed to have boneswords I'd be happier if you could model it with something that looks like swords in its hands.

It never ends well

My Orkz would battle against this if:
- it would count as a big Nurgle demon
or
- your whole Tyranid force looked like Cthulu-esque monsters
or
- you gave it some Tyranid bio-armour and/or Tyranid bio enhancements

Just this among a horde of regular 'Nids however, no.

The only problem I would have is he is not on a GW base for the model you are proxying him as. Outside that you should be good.

Armies:
The Iron Waagh: 10,000+ 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-7-1
Salamanders: 5,000 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-2
Ultramarines: 4,000
Armored Battle Company (DKoK): 4000
Elysians: 500
Khorne Daemons: 2500

I can't judge. I once used an Ork Trukk as a Slaaneshi Daemons Chariot while also using... I think a metal Deff Dread.. as a Slaanesh Greater Daemon.

At least all my Seekers and Daemonettes were the real deal.

That chuthlu would work as a nurgle demon prince. Or that bigger chap.

To each his own I guess, but it always surprises me how seriously some people take pick-up games of toy soldiers.

I would totally play against this as a Hive Tyrant, and no, I would not care if the rest of your army was just plain old 'nids. It might be even cooler if you painted your army to match him, or if you added on some converted bio-amor or something, but really, in almost every case, playing is better than not playing. I just can't see going all the way out to the LGS, unpacking my army and then saying "Oh, I see the colors of your proxy don't match the rest of your army. Good day to you sir!"

TL;DR:

Yes. I would play it. Tell me what it is ahead of time and be consistent about it during the game and we're all good.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

I don't know the Tyranid codex, but if it is roughly the same size and armed with similar weapons as the Hive Tyrant then it seems fine to me. I would agree that you should finsih painting the base and base it. Glad to see it's mostly painted though. I give folks alot more credit for proxying when the model is painted.

Base sizes matter in 40k but if you don't want to use it just for 40k, basing could be as simple as using some double-sided tape to stick it to the appropriate sized base. If you need a cheap base, check out Proxie models or Renedra.

Sure. I play to have fun. If I wanted to act like middle-management I'd work in an office. Just tell me what it is before-hand. If it seems complicated I can spend all of three seconds writing it down.

I'm much more concerned with rudeness and general neckbearding than I am with whatever goofy model someone wants to use as a proxy.

I'd play against it.

WYSIWYG isn't a rule, it's what's commonly called a "convention" it just makes it easier to tell what is what.

It's a gribbly alien thing with tentacles and wings. It's about as real as a tyranid is going to get (and about twice as real as the contents of some dusty old book).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Why the hell not? I'd rather play against a nice fellow with unconventional models than a douche-canoe with perfectly compliant models and colours. (I'm assuming you're a nice fellow of course )
