So my brother is making a themed army of Ork Firemen (in the Fahrenheit 451 manner, of course; why would an Ork -put out- fires?!)
Burnas, burnas, burnas.
Helping him with the army list, and trying to figure out a good way to do this that stays in style while still keeping mostly to the army idea.
Options/ideas:
HQ:
Either:
1 Bike Boss with a combi-skorcha and power klaw (and, of course, some more gear like an attack squig and such)
1 Mega Boss with a combi-skorcha, in the trukk with the Meganobz
-or-
2 Big Mekks with Kustom Force Fields and Burnas, in the wagons with the burna boyz.
Troops:
2+ mobs of Trukk Boyz
Either (depends on HQ choices):
2 Deff Dreads with twin Skorchas (it twin-links them, right? Or do they get 2 shots?)
-or-
1 mob Biker Nobz
1 mob Meganobz w/kombi-skorchas, in a trukk
Elites:
2 mobz Burna Boyz in looted wagons with skorchas (should I instead find a way for them to steal someone else's Trukk?)
1 mob Kommandos with 2 burnas (would this work well? infiltrate, move, flame?)
Fast attack:
2-3 squadrons of Skorcha-buggies
?1 mob bikerz
?1 mob Stormboyz (yeah, no burnas, but hell, they're carrying rockets on their backs, it's pretty close...)
Heavy Support:
2 looted wagons with skorchas (transports for the burna boyz) (should I just use Battlewagons instead and shed a tear for lack of fire on them?)
1 mob Killa Kanz w/ Skorchas (or more mobs of these if losing the wagons for hijacked Trukks?)
Anyway, those are just ideas. Are any of those outright worthless? Any good ideas? I've played very little of the new edition so far, and plenty of these I've never seen used (like Kommandos and Skorcha-buggies) so any suggestions/insights/whatever are welcome.

For mounted burnas a battlewagon is a better buy than a looted wagon by far, and either is better than a trukk. It doesn't matter how fast the vehicle is, if you go more than 6" (7" w/ RPJ) you can't fire out of it anyways.

Kind of thought the idea was to have the trukk (or whatever) drive up, unload the Boyz, and lay down the templates from outside the vehicle, rather than just having them spraying fire from the roof as it drives around.
Does the "mobile fire platform" thing work well? I had basically thought to use the Wagons as a makeshift Trukk, since the Burna Boyz can't take one as a dedicated transport.
A clarification: we have thus far played very little with the new edition, so I'm sure some things that worked in 4E just aren't viable in 5th.

Drive-by burnas do seem to be a popular technique, and battlewagons are a sturdier platform to do so with than wagons. Borrowing a boyz mob's trukk would also be an option to zoom around more quickly, but it doesn't give a lot of protection so is probably going to be more of a distraction/suicide unit.

I'd echo the Battlewagon for the Burna Boyz. The trukk is just too easy to kill or nullify. Even a squad of Marines firing bolters at a Trukk can at the least shake or stun it, which completely borks the Burna Boyz. Burna Boyz outside of a Trukk are shot down far too easily.

Got it. Looks like it's going to be a pair of battlewagons.
Thanks for the advice, all.
Any opinions on the Skorcha-buggy squads, and Skorchas on Deff Dreads? Those are the only choices he hasn't tried at some point, other than the Kommandos which seem straightforward enough.

Skorcha buggies are very fragile and likely to be killed (either shooting or HtH) by any survivors from the attacked unit. But they can be useful against small crowded units, especially in combo with another unit, so long as you expect to wipe out the target squad.
Skorcha Dredds are more popular - 2 or 3 klaws and 2 or 1 skorchas, the dredd runs towards the enemy, and then can either flame weak targets or klaw hard targets.

I like both skorcha buggies and skorcha dreads. Depends on what you need. The skorcha buggies can move 12" and skorch, giving you a nice 20" flamer reach. Dread's slower, but obviously a beast against soft targets in melee.

"You are light in the head. Put out fires?"
Anyways, if I may ask, how many points is this, and HOW few troops are you bringing?

It isn't a set amount of points yet, just a basic "here's the tools to make the army, adjust the numbers of each up or down depending on army size" kind of thing.
Four troops, I suppose; two mobs of Boyz, two mobs of either Biker Nobz or Dreads, depending on which is Troops based on HQ choices.

I would recommend always trying to shoot the burnas from your wagon/trukk. Remember, ork vehicles are open-topped, so any point on the hull can be used to fire from. Also, after placing and totalling the number of hits made by the first burna, you just multiply by the number of burnas in the wagon/trukk and that's how many hits you've scored! It almost guarantees a wipe of whatever squad they've laid their template on.
For the kommandos, I would suggest adding Snikrot. With his ability to come in on your opponents board edge, you could flame/assault a unit that stayed back and is gunning you down. They will certainly die in the opponents next shooting phase, but they also wiped out a squad when they came in and bought the rest of your army time to get to the enemy lines by eating up their shooting.
I don't have my books handy, but I'm pretty sure putting the two skorchas on the dreads gives them two skorcha shots, not twin-linked.
