Lotr models are a fair bit smaller.
So it may be real difficult, were like talking putting space marine arms on a elf difficult too.
Best of luck with it!

yeah, assuming those bases are the same size, the minis are definitely smaller.
Personally, if I were looking for something cheap that could be easily converted into tallarn, I would try and find a non-GW range and convert it to look GW-ey.

Lotr minis are proper 25mm (and is an issue relating to the sculptors, the licence and how little control over the entire thing GW have*) and much smaller than Tallarns.
That said, next to SM, they look about the right size.
*Essentially, GW only got the licence to print money IF the Perry bros were to do the sculpts in THAT scale - as that is the preferred one of one PJ. They even sculpted him as a hobbit.

Just cut the wpns off and put lasguns instead
does it really matter that they are smaller i mean ur not going to put them ig heads right its just better with smaller miniatures youll get better cover

Im using cadians and crapachans to make my tallarns- its turning out easier than I thought- at least now that I realized I have the bitz I need(shoulder pads).

sluggaslugga makes a decent point.
In terms of a more realisric scale, it could work. If you've got some old metal Tallarn, then these ones may look silly. But a whole army made of them? That would be awesome.
I think if you buy like 6 boxes of these guys you could start a wicked army log. I say do it.

Any chance we can see (or at least hear) how to make those Shemaghs? They look almost exactly like what I want for my Catachan counts-as Al-Rahem.

The cloth was actually alot easier than I thought it would be. The first shemaghs I just blobbed on the grey stuff and shaped it. That was difficult. Easy mode- was rolling it out into thin sections- and cutting squares or strips and shaping it like it was really cloth. after that it was just forming the folds and sculpting a lil texture into it.
The keffiyehs are alot easier to sculpt than the shemaghs are, but both seem to give the proper look for a desert raider theme.
I dont have the energy or patience to do a tutorial up on how I do it- when I feel well enough to model stuff I tend to just sit down and focus on what Im doing rather than stopping to take pics while my putty is curing

Yeah, you have to remember that the LOTR models are smaller, so they're not going to kitbash with the Cadian and Catachan sets.
However, they actually look the right scale when next to a Space Marine. The Cadians and Catachans are lusidcrously oversized.
I'd recommend using the Harad, and then doing arm reposes and weapon swaps to get them to hold lasguns. Buy the lasguns from one of the bits sites.
Obviously regular lasguns would be rather large, but this may actually look ok. I think the Catachan lasguns are slightly less bulky than the Cadian ones. If you want smaller, lighter lasguns, then look at the Forgeworld bits, like the Elysian lasguns.
Or you could do what I did in my Penal Legion and use the lasguns from the ports of the Chimera kit. These are usually VERY cheap from bits sites. You just need to find a big pile of generic 'gun back ends' to attack these lasgun nozzles to.

Definitely get Catachan lasguns. They don't have giant hands pre-molded on, and the carbine style fits with the Tallarn better.

I would suggest doing Ian's kitbashed idea. A far more expensive idea would be the Steel Legion folding stock Lasgun from the Imperial Vehicle Accessory Sprue.

That's actually not true...
The license was given to GW to do Lord of the Rings, provided they did an entirely new range of models, in more realistic proportions than their standard figures.
The idea was to avoid what happens with a lot of toy companies, wherein they reuse the same basic bodies of figures and just add minor paint/detail variations.

lol, so someone is an even bigger jerk about copyright than is GW?
Oh, and those LoTR are metal models, right? I do not envy all of the work you're going to have to do to chop metal models apart in order to get the guns out.

LoTR actually has as many, if not more, plastic kits than 40k. The Haradrim being one of them.
And can you really blame New Line for wanting it being done the way they did? It has nothing to do with copyright issues.
It's ensuring that what is being marketed is quality. It's why each actor had to give approval to the models being released with their likeness, etc.
