So, I'm looking to start a Blood Angels army. One of my favorite aspects of the Blood Angels is the duality they've got in the form of the Death Company (dark side), which emphasize the unbridled fury of the chapter, versus the Sanguinary Guard (light side) which emphasizes theeir elegance and quest for perfection. To that end, I've come up with two lists I really like, and I'm curious to see which one the community here thinks would be overall more effective. I know that massed jump pack infantry isn't the most competitive thing, but I really want to do it. I've already played mechanized MEQ's to death, and doing it again would take whats left of my sanity.

HQ
Astorath the Grim

Elites
Sanguinary Priests
-Models x 3
-Jump Packs x3

-Thunder Hammer
-Infernus Pistol
-Lemartes
-Power Fist

Fast Attack
Land Speeder
-Heavy Flamer
-Multi-Melta

Okay, so the idea here is that I can have Lemartes and the Death Co. running around causing havoc, and then attach Astorath to another unit, since they both give the squad they're attached to re-roll to hit, and the both give Death Company re-roll to wound.

Here, the Sanguinor and the Librarian are each attached to the Sanguinary Guard. I chose Sanguine Sword to deal with vehicles, (since I realize I went criminally low on Melta Bombs and Powerfists) and Might of Heroes to deal with infantry, (because the Sanguinor with 8 potential attacks is a scary thought.)

Im actually a little partial to the second list myself. The way all my characters synergize with each other has its own form of elegance, which I think suits the idea of the Saguinary Guard. Elagent and deadly, where as the Death Company list is more brutal and straight forward, though I suppose that is the nature of the Death Company.

I prefer list 2, and I think you should go with that. But:
You can't join two special characters to the same unit, you can however, join two special characters. Your assault squads are too small! Easily wiped out with a good sense of target priority. IMO, make them ten man squads, and combat squad if necessary, and switch out the flamer for a melta, giving each squad x2 melta. Sergeant, give him a hand flamer if you really want. Doing this also means you need less priests, giving you more pts to play with.

Hope that helped

EDIT: what pts level is this? looks like 1.5k or something to me.

Point level is 1850.

I suppose it's a little misleading without the points costs listed. Those are all 10 man squads. Where it says 5 models, it should actually say 5 additional models. I'd like to keep my Sanguinary Priests regardless. 41 models the Feel No Pain seems pretty awesome.

Not sure why you say one can't join multiple IC's to one unit. I couldn't find anything to that effect on page 48 (Independent Characters Joining and Leaving Units) of the BGB. I've been doing so in my current list (Ragnar+Wolf Priest+Blood Claws) for a while, without incident. If I'm wrong, please direct me to the specific text, as I'm prone to gloss over some things.

I'm rather partial to my 1 Melta/1 Flamer setup. Horde armies like Orks and Tyranids benefit far too much from the propagation of melta weaponry, and I'm not keen to let them capitalize on that. Hand Flamers don;t have nearly the same "oomph."

Sanguinor is a unit of one and cannot join Or be joined by any other unit.

I voted for the dark side, which in my opinion Sanguinor represents.

Much of what I said does not count, as the list was misinterpreted. I'll check my rulebook(s) tonight and post something up tomorrow. I say (s) because GW is prone to misprints . Then again, maybe their writers really just can't spell.

Ahh. Good Looking out. So a little less synergy, since the Librarian can't give Sangionor +D3 attacks. So two questions:

1. Is it worth keeping Might of Heroes, and giving the attacks to the librarian, (since 5 potential power weapon attacks is still decent) or do I look at something else maybe?

2. What if I just had him chill near the Librarian, the Sanguinary Priest, and the Librarian. I could put him behind the squad for cover, and as long as they all stay with in 6 inches, he'll still benefit from the blood chalice and they'll still benefit from him. Could be worth it.

Mixing special weapons is fail. Your marines with furious charge and FnP should rip through hordes easy enough anyway double up the melta in each squad no matter the list.

Which I think would be more competitive? Probably the Sanguinor one as DC on jump packs arebn't great due to rage they work far better in a Landraider where they can be delivered where you need them rather than whetre your opponent wants them...
