thank you for the replies, There are bits of Grub Nubbin that I think I could have done better, but if I spend time always trying to redo stuff I'm not happy with, I would just keep working on the same mini over and over again...
in reality I have never played a formal game of
wh40k, I have played a few practice squad level 250pt sessions just getting the feel of the game, but never a full match with a full army.
both of these models were experiments trying to relearn techniques i remember from back when but forgot how to do. Grub nubbin was working on shading skin and I spent a lot of work on his green skin making it look good. also pretty happy with the skull hanging from his waist. the space marine at his feet I'm not happy with all that much, but its not the point of the mini, oh well.
the nob has been an experiment in basing and then blood. for the river on the base I used the "thick" gel superglue puddled then hit with a drop of kicker, not sprayed to make it set up nice and shiny. then the red stain i did with a varnish coating i found at hobby lobby, it dries clear so i put a VERY small amount of red paint in it and then painted it on to try and control how much blood was in different parts of the river (like splitting around the rock on the side) but used too much paint and it came out more homogeneous than wanted... next time it'll be better
however the mixture worked very well to add gore to his knife, its shiny, so it stands out from the more matte finish paint and its partly translucent so its a cool effect I am happy with.
overall I'm getting better I think, I'll post more once I get more done...
