Imagine my surprise when this badboy cropped up in a load of old school stuff i got from my cousin.

Except my model has a HAND FLAMER!
i dont know of any units outside of the new Blood Angels that can use them in 5th ed. though?
Anyone else know?
Is this rare?

Its never been painted and aside from being out of the box its in mint condition.
Just wondering if its something i should paint or not! haha

In 2nd edition you could give hand flamers to all sorts of guys. Now it's just Blood Angels that have them. I'd say either replace it if you can or just use it as a laspistol and let your opponent know.

It's not particularly rare, sorry.

It was a standard release in 2nd edition, when hand flamers were a regular weapon option. It was still available off the blister rack in the standard Commissar assortment throughout 3rd edition (when the rules said to treat hand flamers as close combat weapons) and 4th edition (when they were no longer mentioned in the rules at all for anyone except SoB).

He may not be rare , or game legal but i wouldn't change him , just because he looks different and quite cool to boot .

That guy only went out of production with the new commissar models that came out a few years ago. Still a cool figure, but nothing too special. I still like the idea of a commissar motivating his men with a flamethrower though.

Aside from some of the largest hands in the game, the 2nd edition Commissars were all pretty good.

Sister of Battle Seraphim can have hand flamers. A pair of them.

Big hands are an Emperor-given asset! They help with grabbing fleeing guardsmen and tossing them back into the fight. Also... them 40k pistols are BIG.

OT: That model is pretty sweet. I wouldn't change him. Get him painted up and he'd make a nice addition to any IG army.

You could snip off the hand flamer and glue a standed las-pistol in its place, or what I would do, paint it up as a plasma-pistol and make it "counts as" and still use it in game

I've got one, but personally like the newer commisars much better.

The reason the Commisars hands used to be so big is because they had to be able to use the old model power fists... Does anyone remember how massive these were on IG units?
