Ask and ye shall recieve The flash makes it hard to see the weathering and makes my rust look really yellow, even though its more brownish orange... Havnt finished the spiky bits on the back yet, but that will be next.

I think the rust looks fine, and is that a Slaneesh icon on the side?

Pretend you never saw that... I thought it looked good, then as I was flipping through my codex it dawned on me and I had an "Oh " moment, and by the time I had said moment it was already painted and on the model, so now I figure I will just leave it and hope that it doesnt get noticed... (Which so far isnt working lol) If it gets too much attention I will pull it off and find something else to stick on there.

In a couple of weeks I will be getting a couple of regular marine rhinos, which will promptly be painted in Imperial Fist colors with large chaos stars over the Imperial Fist Icons on the side and basically rusted out to look like old war trophies. Hopefully they come out looking as good as I think they will. Theres a tutorial on making rusty yellow in the painting tutorial section that I will be using, so they wont be too bright yellow, and it will be obvious who they belong to now. Anyway, I my have to convert my dread and have him ripping apart a black legion marine just for you Lord Wynne

if you're having trouble covering the metal with gold, try doing a coat of tin bits first, looks great ones you put a layer of gold on it. I'm looking at the vents on your backpacks when I say this

Gotta say I love all the hazard stripes you've made, I'm struggling with them myself and I know what a bitch they are to make, especially the the ones on the legs and shoulderguards.
Also, upload your pictures to dakkadakka instead, easier to zoom in on details and such.

I myself use to play Iron Warriors. Absolutely loved them too. Yours are coming out quite nicely I might add. Bet they look kick in a city fight. I did the same thing as suggested above when I painted gold or even bronze. Usually a base coat of tin bitz first Then followed by a 50/50 mix of dwarf bronze and tin bitz then straight dwarf bronze and so on and so forth until it was as bright as I wanted. I'm still thinking of going back to chaos. I'll probably play a self created army though.

They look great, but I recommend you go over the hazard stripes with a coat of Devlan Mud. This will help to dampen the contrast between the yellow and black.

Keep up the good work

Having had some experience with hazard stripes myself, and having even written a Tutorial, I find that Devlan Mud will dull, and dirty, the Yellow too much. Personally, I prefer Gryphonne Sepia, and if - by the time you've washed the stripes - you disagree, then you can always just give it a second wash of Sepia. Up to you, but that's my advice!

They look good so far; we want UPDATES!

I just use boring old Burnished Gold for the trim on my IW, looks qwuite bright but dulls down nicely after a Devlan Mud wash. For the stripes i do a base lien of the foundation yellow (forget the name now), then a thin coat of golden yellow over the top, then a thin was of devlan mud again.

Yours look really good. I think you proabbly put more effort into them than i do, it shows.

I know a ton of the people I have talked to recommended the mud wash, which is coming next, So far everything thats painted has been using the GW starter paint set and a pot of burnished gold. I want to get the squad finished then will wash one of them and see how it looks before I commit to doing the entire squad. Updates will be a bit slow as I spend about 3-4 hours per model (yes I paint slow) but I cant stand feilding an unpainted army.

As for the dread I had 2 ideas, one was him ripping a space marine to pieces, or impaling him on the close combat weapon, or having a larger base with him being chained and held by a couple of renegade soldiers (or handlers if you will). Either way it should look pretty sweet.

And BTW I like the stripes but I must force myself into a zen state to paint them right or they end up looking like a steaming pile of poo...

Thanks everyone for the kind words! Any advice for grass on the bases? I cant figure out how to make it look right, every time I try it looks like a lawnmower went by and blew grass clippings everywhere...

And how do I upload the pictures directly to Dakka? I just used the attachment under the post..

For the pics. Upload them into your gallery. Then you can link them from there into a thread using the address line under "properties".

That's how i do it, if there is a faster way.

OK updating the posts, got some new stuff going, as well as my first marine squad finished...

First are my converted Khorn Berzerkers, you know what happens when you give the undead a daemon possessed soul and guns! For the fluff, They were an original unit of berzerkers that went through a virus bomb launched by the loyalist legions, normally they would have been reduced to a pile of mush, but the blood god was so pleased with their work he brought them back to serve him in their most basic form.

For gameplay, they are WYSIWYG, there are 5 more to go, but I figure that they are the undead, takes a headshot to kill, therefore they can follow the same rules as regular berzerkers.

For the second pic its just an update of what I have managed to paint so far, like I said in theoriginal post, I paint slowly...

EDIT: The square bases are just temporary until I can get some round ones.

I'm not too sure about the skellies as Beserkers, perhaps if you added some chaos armor to them to at least make them look like they were once marines.

Well TBH I figured that their armor was burned off during the virus bombing. My main reason for this thought is that if I were to try and add some armor to the it would look huge, such as some broken up sholder pads and the like. I am no where near good enough with GS to mold some armor, maybe some ideas for some stuff to throw on these guys to help "Khorn" them up a bit?

Maybe use thenormal marine bodies but put skull heads on them? You could also have sme with a random unarmoured skeleton arm or leg as well.

Could we get some clsoe up pics of the warsmith model?

I don't see those skeletons as berserkers at all - I mean, I'm pretty cool about proxies, but they don't look the part one bit. Now as lesser daemons, that I could get behind.

Your painting looks very good from back here - I'd love to see some closer up pictures. Also your basing is a little flat - get some paint on that stuff!

I dunno, I think the Skeletons is kind of a neat idea... For SOMETHING. Dunno if I'd use them for Beserkers... Maybe Summoned Lesser Daemons??

Army is looking great, by the way!
Just if the Iron Warriors stole some Rhinos from the Imperial Fists (Whom they hate) then why would they not repaint them in their own livery? Just wondering, is all. :}

Nice Warsmith, you didn't go with the servo-arm backpack?

I painted mine in pretty much the same way but cut off thesarm from the pack and made a conversion beamer for apoc games. (pics in my gallery if you're interested).

My main thought behind the rhinos painted in Imperial Fist, which I understand are their main rivalry, is that when facing an the Imperial Fist, it would be a slap in the face for the Imperial Fist to see their own equipment being used against them for 2 reasons:

1. It implies that we have destroyed you in previous encounters
2. We will destroy you again, and when we do, we will take whats left and use it against you in the future

As far as the servo arm on the Warsmith, I decided against it as I like the pose he is in now, and I couldnt get him to look right with the servo arm over his shoulder, just looked out of place. The only thing I dont like about this model is the combi weapon, I like to keep my army as WYSIWYG, and now that he is basically pointed out as a chaos lord, I didnt alocate the points for the combi weapon.

I do like the idea of using the skellies as lessar daemons, but what I was thinking is if I can mix them in with a squad of regular zerkers and do some different things like skellie heads/arms/legs on some of those they would fit in a little better as a full zerker squad.

Still have 5 skellies left to paint, then its on to my terminators, which I didnt do any conversion work on, but am thinking of trying to find a way to do a little different color of iron, kinda like older/highly polished iron that starts to look like a shiny brown. Basically I want them to look seasoned lol, sorta like this:

http://www.adelelewis.com/images/pottery/ironbot2.jpg

Any ideas on how to achieve this? I was thinking a mix of bolter silver and the gold that I use for the shoulder pads on my marines, believe its burnished gold?

Maybe brazen bronze atop a base coat of dwarf flesh, maybe? Then add a black wash with some shining gold for highlights? I just pulled that out of nowhere. Just a thought. Dx
