For those out there who own and use a FW Hierophant in their games, I have questions about how you have based (or not based) the model.

If you do not use a base, how strong and durable are his 'footprints'? From the pictures, he looks like he doesn't have much room to stand on, just four scything talons. And this seems a little scary in game, especially with his barbs underbelly.

For those that do base him, what have you used as a base? Forge World looks to use a 12" square.

Also, feel free to post your pics here, I'd love to see your Hierodules. And any other advice or tips are very welcome...

Mine is on its way and I'm really looking forward to this model, but the basing quesions is where I need to start.

He'll be joining his little brothers (one of which is painted).

ok heres a tip, saw the claw off a couple segments up, and pin it with 3/4 mm hole and use a brass rod through it, allow the brass rod to prodrude from the top of the claw and drill those into your chosen plinth, i would use 1cm wooden plinth, or disk of dense plastic., that will give you full stability, you will want to pin the crap out of those limbs, especially up the fore limb.

Or maybe you could drill a hole in the belly, and use a length of PVC rod to hold it up, with the claws only gently touching the actual base.

I plan on using a 12x12 base for mine. Since the legs are horribly designed I decided I'm going to using some of GWs buildings to hold it up. Build a diorama on the base of some marines getting attacked by rippers and then make it look like the Hierophant is walking through/over a ruined building. The neck/chest area and the area where the tail gets glued on will rest on a building. To give it extra stability Im gonna have 4 marines with misslelauchers shooting at it and hide a brass ride in the smoke trail of the missle.

I have also seen people use the clear valk stand to hold it up and have seen people use a destroyed tank and hide a brass rod or something similar in smoke coming off of said tank.

I am considering a brass rod as well... though a flying stand might work as well. I wouldn't mind a thin shiny rod in the center too much.

I might pick up one of the FW Downed Valks to put on the base... or the plastic model from Macragge with some of the metal wounded marines on the base.

My thoughts were a 12" x 12" square MDF board for the base or depending on the size, a round base (12" hopefully).

Thanks for the thoughts so far...

The legs are not strong enough to hold it up so I drilled a metal rod into its underside and then put it on a small base. The legs elevate slightly above the ground and it stands just fine.

I'm looking to put his feet on the base and use the metal rod as a 'middle leg.' I noticed the metal rod on your Hierophant is bending... how sturdy is this to move the model?
