A small Armoured force of traitor guard have control of a Landing Pad behind our own lines and are disrupting the Rear Echelon of the Imperial Guard Regiment sent to eradicate them. The 2nd Company of the Bear Claws Chapter has been ordered to silence this threat and annihilate the Armour threat. Chief Fighting wolf has hand picked an Assault force based around Anti Armour to strike hard, fast and retake the Landing Pad and its bunkers. Sergeant Telion on secondment to the 10th Company is leading a small sniper force in support of the Chiefs Operation.

Turn 1

Librarian "Old Moon" (OM) using his powers infinity gated towards the Landing pad, but the Warp was fickle and he had to leave early leaving him dangerously exposed in open ground. The two Landspeeders moved up the right flank in support but "Old Moon" remained dangerously exposed despite of his Terminator Armour. Telion directed his scouts (Running Bear) To fire on the Command Squad (HQ1) killing the Colonel with an exceptional shot from his Stalker Pattern Bolter. The rest of the Bear Claws moved forward carefully, knowing their Power Armour was no match for Battle Cannon of the Leman Russ Battletank.

The felling of the Traitor Colonel despite being a moment of triumph alerted the battle line and the Traitor Guard move forward to find, pin and kill the sniper that killed their Commander. An advancing Vanquisher spotted a single Terminator advancing across open ground and fired a Battle Cannon Shell. A direct hit, the Tank commander congratulated the gunner on a superb shot, only to stare in shock as the dust settled and the terminator continued its relentless advance despite the obvious damage to its armour. The rest of the Traitor Guard continued their "Advance to contact".

The All-Father be praised, I am truly protected thought Librarian Old Moon, but decided it would be better to get to cover as another strike of that magnitude would be enough to send him to the Sky to meet the All-Father, and it was not yet his time Chief Librarian Old Moon used his Gate of Infinity once again and moved inside the second objective, the command bunker and instantly began assaulting the Autocannon crews within the bunker. Crazy Fist began the Armoured assault by racing forward in his Predator and engaging the Sentinel in the open ground with four Lascannons and utterly immobilised the vehicle. Lame Bison's Razorback raced to left flank with his Sternguard squad their Combi-Melta's humming at maximum charge ready to be discharged. Stone Weasel and Red Deers Combat Squads were advancing on the left flank under cover from Calling Mountain the Heavy Support Dreadnought, spotting the Vanquisher the Venerable Dreadnought fire its twin Lascannon with an accuracy that had to be seen to be believed blowing the Vanquisher turret clean off. With both forces now completely aware of each other dispositions the battle began in earnest. Chief Fighting wolf now advanced across no mans land, protecting the flank of Death Eagle and Stone Calf's Combat Squads. Telion began a murderous fire on the Command Squad coaching his initiates on each target and making every shot count. The Landspeeders coming under sustained Heavy Bolter fire dived back towards cover, clearly shaken by several glancing blows. Fierce Raven, the Anti Armour Dreadnought moved into position behind cover and waited for the enemy armour to close so as to make a better kill. Telion Voxed Storm Raven and requested evac for relocation to objective Longhorn. Then an enormous ear splitting explosion was heard, Captain Fighting wolf looked left and saw the previous position of Red Deer's Squad now a black pall of smoke hundreds of metres high "Death to Traitors, Vengeace for our Brothers" he howled.

Red Deer's Squad was reduced to 3 men after the artillery bombardment, worse was to come as Stone Calf's squad broke cover to advance right in the firing line of Leman Russ firing in enfilade, not one member of Stone Calf's squad survived. "Old Moon" Sensed the fate of the battle was in balance, he drove off the autocannon squad and voxed "Objective Tomahawk secured". The Bear Claws instantly took heart from this and fought with renewed vigour. "Fighting Wolf" charged into a Hellhound throwing a Melta Bomb into its cowling before moving away from it, leaving it immobilised but not out of the fight.

Death Eagle furious at the loss of his battle brothers charged the Leman Russ with his combat Squad. It's Heavy bolter cutting down three of his Squad, even as Telion and Storm Raven and his squad flew over his position at breakneck speed. The Leman Russ attempted to escape but Death Eagle threw his Melta bomb well, it detonated but barely a scratch was visible and the tank rubbled onwards. Crazy Fist terminated the Vanquisher for good with a Lascannon shot and it detonated spectacularly. Sky Wing then switched flanks watching the murderous fire on Red Deer's squad and the advancing Armour made all speed for Storm Weasels Squad to support them. Lame Bison now in position screamed to a halt and barely had the boarding ramp hit the ground when Grey Fox's Veteran Squad stormed out firing precise bursts of of Hellfire rounds at the Troops in the open to their north, they carved a swathe through the Traitor guardsman's ranks and supported their Librarian as he prepared to repel an assault. Storm Weasel received another battle cannon shot and 3 of his brothers went to meet the All-Father.
"As long as I draw breath no traitor will stand before me" shouted Storm Weasel. His Brother Warrior was carrying a Meltagun "Stay close Warrior, I may have need of you!" he joked before sprinting at the Leman Russ a war cry on his lips Fierce Raven Charged out of cover right at the Chimera infront of him and he could almost smell the panic of the crew, but his Multimelta shot glanced off its oblique armour. In the panic the squad in the rear of the vehicle disembarked. Calling Mountain was struck by a Lascannon shot from a Leman Russ and his Twin Linked Lascannon exploded in a white ball of flame. Red Deer moved his squad into heavy cover and setup his Missile Launcher in ambush for any armour that advanced across the field.

The battle now raged, Storm Weasel blew the Leman Russ apart with a Meltagun Shot followed by a Melta bomb for good measure. Grey Fox sprinted directly for the command bunker in the hope of a rendezvous with Old Moon. Telion in a haze of smoke and confusion lead his squad into a mass of traitor Guardsmen who had no idea what was going on. Fighting Wolf destroyed the hellhound with his final Melta bomb and looked around the battlefield for his next target. Sky Wing straining at maximum speed continued its rush to protect the left flank from the armoured assault it was under. It was the right flank where the action was thickest. Death Eagle leapt aside from the Leman Russ which attempted to tank shock his squad only to witness Fierce Raven Immolate the Chimera and immediately be set upon by veteran Traitor guardsmen. Melta Bombs detonated and a huge explosion occurred, half of the Guardsmen went down with him but Death Eagle's Flamer eradicated the rest and sent them to hell. Old Moon moving back into the bunker complex came under sustained Autocannon fire and even his Terminator armour couldn't protect him and he was wounded and left for dead in the bunker.

The Traitor Guardsmen on the Landing Pad fought a desperate battle against the Scouts in their midst, the battle did not go well for the inexperienced initiates against the Guard and Telion was forced to fight overwhelming numbers to capture the objective, his Weapon Skill with Bolt pistol and blade unsurpassed he continued to rip apart the guardsmen even as his squad was killed aroud him.

The final act now played out, Telions was unable to rest control from the Traitor Commissar on the landing pad but the result was clear as Fighting Wolf and Crazy fist closed on the Landing Pad, and Grey Fox's Veteran's stormed the command bunker. Crazy Fist fired a full lascannon fusilade into the rear of the last Leman Russ killing it, but it was too late to save Death Eagle who was atomised by the Battle Cannon's roar. The final Hell Hound, fired it's heavy bolter and clipped the Landspeeder at full speed and even with Astartes reactions Sky Wing stood no chance. The Bear Claws had knocked out the Traitor Forces, but had taken a fearful toll in Astartes.

"I am unhappy that so many Brave Warriors perished is such a small battle" Said Chief Silvertip
"As am I" replied Chief fighting wolf simply
"It is not your place to throw away lives, however it is mine as chapter master" Said Chief Silvertip "You must employ better tactics my son, or I maybe be forced to replace you." he said simply.
"I understand" Said chief Fighting wolf
"I hope that you do" Said Chief Silvertip.

ANALYSIS :- I had some very bad penetration rolls for vehicle damaged with 8 x Shaken results and 4 x Stunned and only 2 Weapon destroyed and 2 Vehicle explodes results. Melta Bombs are good, as are Meltagun's at half range in assault. I need to stop bunching my marines coherency is 2" therefore use it to minimise deaths from template weapons!

Coherency is king against armies w/ such a number of templates. Was it a vassal game? I like the indian theme of your army, i do find it fitting to the notion of tribal warriors in the name of the great spirit (a.k.a. the emperor).

However i do have a little problem. I am too used to seeing a game unfold in turns and couldn't quite catch the series of events.
Anyway thanks for tthe report!

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Yeah, i thought a Story Narrative ontop of the turns would be more interesting. But artistic license does sacrifice detail. I also didn't want to do a "he then rolled a 5, then a 5 and the vehicle was immobilised" type report. (ah I see the problem I haven't removed one or two models from play after they were killed, Old Moon for example on turn 5. Whoops I sort that out for my next report!)

the narrative format is nice but i have NO idea what the vast majority of the units are. "Calling Mountain" can be anything from a scout squad to a vindicator and the name doesn't hint much at what it is. also, i can't even be sure of which ARMY you're using. you've got space-wolf-esque terminology in your naming of units but have a storm raven floating around. are you team edward or team jacob? i'd start out the battle report with army lists of both sides along with the narrative name you're assigning each unit.

Ok, I'm wondering where the Edward vs Jacob reference comes in? Storm Raven is the name of my Landspeeder Storm, I will probably change that name to avoid confusion. My Chapter is Codex, but with North American Indian references I don't use the Space Wolf codex. Calling Mountain if you read the Narrative is Dreadnought, I have been careful to write every unit into it so you know what it is! "Calling Mountain the Heavy Support Dreadnought,". Please be more careful in reading what I have posted it is there for a reason and helps explain the battle. I wish everyone would read the post's and not read what they want to. (this is the 3rd or 4th Post in the last few days where i have had to refer people back to the original post to re-read it )

the edward vs jacob reference is a twilight movie thing mixed in with 40k. since the blood angels (space vampires) came out right after the space wolves (space werewolves), there were inevitable comparisons to the movie. sorry, i guess those jokes don't translate well across the pond. back to the report... you're using space-wolf-esque animal terminology in your nomenclature while fielding a flying skimmer called a storm raven which is only in the blood angel codex... while using a spacemarine librarian with (IIRC) a vanilla marine codex only power. it gets confusing for people who weren't there in person and hence my reference to picking a side (i figured you were either SW or BA).

as for calling mountain... while you may know exactly what he is, the reader has to read 3 paragraphs and make sense of 3 turns of battle diagrams to find out what he is. you obviously put time and effort into this report and are excited about your army which is all good; i'm just offering a piece of advice to make the report flow a bit better for some readers. i would suggest that if you're going with the narrative format and going to rename units, put together a short army list so the reader knows what you're talking about from the beginning. alternately, i've seen people post battle reports using vassal which has unit images that would also alleviate the confusion. either way, congrats on the win.

Cool, i think you are right I need to put in an Army Summary at the start. Sorry to jump down your throat, the devil is in the detail as they say...
