Reclusiarch Velius stood at the precipice of the traitorous guardsmen's trench, breathing in the cordite and promethium aroma.
To his left his battle-brothers had disembarked from their Razorback and were eliminating the last of the enemies' resistance. He enjoyed the spectacle of boys playing at men, and getting their deaths for it.

Blood Knight Artax cleared his throat.
"Sir, The heretic Ormus' command chimera has been located. We await your command."

Velius looked back; his Blood Knights made a striking appearance, their solid black armor glistening with gore. He began the charge simply by shouting:
"FOR THE EMPEROR!"

As the flames of a once proud chimera sputtered and died, a single figure was still breathing. Velius knelt before the robed figure and plucked the heretic's rosary from his neck.
Ormus looked up at him, and summoned the last of his strength.
"In the name of the Emperor, I declare you excommunicatus."

Velius was incensed at how deep this man's flawed mind would take him. He crushed the small pendant, the golden =I= shattering with a spark and sending blue smoke into the air.
"No son, you will die here and now, for YOUR crimes."

Velius hefted the once-faithful servant of the emperor and drank deeply from his neck. The human's pitiful fists hammered uselessly against Velius' breastplate.

Velius keyed his comm-link to his men
"Today we have made the Emperor proud!"

His men's cheers rose above the carnage of the field. Velius thought to himself, what a glorious day.


I've been developing an idea for a Blood Angels chapter that has strayed from the Emperor's grace, but doesn't realize it. Primary colors are going to be white with black/white backpacks and black lower legs, with red trim around the shoulderpads.

History
The Paladins of Sanguinius used to have a proud and noble tradition, based off honor and brotherhood. Sometime late 998.M41, en route to fight in the third battle for Armageddon, the entire Paladins of Sanguinius strike force was lost in the warp. What seemed to the outside world to be 48 years was 320 years for the Paladins. During their extended stay, lost adrift in the warp tide, Chaplain Velius was offered a chance to master the red thirst for his company by an entity calling itself Sangunious! At first he didn't believe it, but after years of temptation and faced with either accepting it's offer or dying in obscurity Captain Velius gave in. They materialized in their home, the Listok system after every Paladin either drank from "Sanguinious'" charred iron goblet, or was killed. Upon arrival Chaplain Velius announced the great news: they had found a cure! The two companies that had not left saw their "cure" as the daemonic ritual it was, and fought their former brothers. The resulting clash ripped the Paladin's fortress monastery to shreds and cost them a quarter of their fighting strength. Despite this, Velius has taken the mantle of Chapter Master and continues his crusade against the enemies of mankind.

After all, the Emperor cares not from where the blood flows, so long as it flows.

Notable Conflicts
998.M41- The Paladins of Sanguinius kill their own battle-brothers in a civil war lasting 45 days. Recieving hails from an =I= vessel approaching high orbit; the remainder of The Paladins of Sanguinius stripped their fortress monastery of everything valuable that wasn't destroyed, including the chapter's gene-seed bank. Inquisitor Ormus chases the Paladins for 4 years, following in the wake of slaughter. Ormus caught up on the shores of Saphhion, an ice world whose main export was promethium processed in huge manufactories under the surface. The planetary governor was fighting a rebellion and issued a call for help, which the Knights took gladly. They began attacking the rebels, and after their inevitable victory began killing off the populace of hive-city Murond. All would have been lost in short order had not =I= Ormus arrived to rally the PDF. A seven month long battle followed but guardsmen allready under strength from a rebellion could not hope to defeat 7 full strength heretical companies. Before Ormus died, he transmitted everything that had happened to his allies in the Inquisition.

Organization
Six battle companies consisting of assault marines and 1 company designated the "Blood Knights". These Blood Knights were the few who drank of the Iron cup, and mastered their battle lust.

Notable Characters
- Chapter Master Velius- Crusader Lord with the goal of eliminating all heretics from the galaxy, including the Inquisitors who dare to question his loyalty. After all, Velius takes skulls for the golden throne; he only wishes to serve the Emperor.

Dark Flesh RipTearers of Dark Darkness of the Everdark would be a better name than "Knights Vampyr."

Or maybe the Dark Knights Ravenblack Bloodkill Deathscream Blackdark.

Hmmm, good point. I like the vampire aspect, but I can see it being played up too much. I do like Dark Flesh RipTearers of Dark Darkness of the Everdark. Maybe I can fit in a grimdark.

Everything here is just a working title, so i'm going to sleep on a better name tonight.

Maybe Grimdark Knights, or just Dark Knights. I don't think thats an established chapter name.

I like the Khornate thing. That actually interests me quite a bit.

Dude. Dark Knights totally invokes Batman, which is the best idea in this thread so far.

It'd had some irony if their original scheme was blue with gold, and turned to red and bronze

After careful consideration, a shower and 3 hours of sleep before watch I have decided to keep the Khornate bits in there, also the fact that they drink blood. But the name is kind of flat.

Still can't think of a better name, any suggestions welcome!

A common trend among traitor legions (which this chapter is not, I know, but for the sake of example) is to keep a name previously given whilst a loyalist legion that seems to imply they still believe they are somehow faithful - such as the Word Bearers, or Emperor's Children. I'm a fan of this approach.

So if they're going to be a Blood Angels successor chapter, what about Sons of Sanguinius, or Scions of Sanguinius, or something similar?

Or something a bit more Word Saladly, such as Sanguinian Progeny, or similar?

Hmmm, Yeah the idea was that they changed their name after the civil war. You got me thinking though, why would Velius change his chapter's name? He is in the right in his mind, and everyone else is a heretic against him.

Exactly. He thinks he's loyal. He thinks he's the shining example of everything Sanguinius stood for. Why wouldn't he keep a name honoring the Primarch to whom he believes he is still loyal?

The Sanguinary Knights sounds cool, but may be too close to a unit in the 'dex. I really like the noun Knights, I just need a verb to go with it. Damn Blood Knights allready is taken.

Well, if looking for a name that isn't already taken, there are plenty of synonyms for "knight" or words that are closely associated with knighthood you can use. For example:

Paladin
Crusader
Cavalier
Lord

Damnit I can't think of any more off the top of my head. But maybe use one of those?

Also, big negative on Blood Wings, for obvious reasons.

Sanguinary Knights would be too close to Sanguinary Guard or Sanguinary Priests... I'd say avoid the "Sanguinary" descriptor.

Sanguinary is not a real word, as far as I know. Sanguine, on the other hand, is. It means hopeful. Or bloody.

I guarantee you Blood Lords and Blood Crusaders will be taken. Bloody Crusaders sounds a bit cheesy. Paladins of Blood sounds... I dunno. Maybe I'm not a fan of the "Blood" descriptor?

I do like Sanguine Crusaders.... but consider something for me.

The "Dark" descriptor seems to imply they realize they've fallen to Chaos. I'd avoid it.

I just think that a highly intelligent soldier that consciously made the decisions that put him in the place he is now... for better or worse. Maybe I've been an RPGer for too long, but its too cool for school.

I retconned my chapter description, they are now officially The Paladins of Sanguinius!!

i don't know if the drinking blood and taking skulls for the emperor works for me. like they had better be really twisted to not realize that drinking blood is prob mutation, or to forget all of imperial doctrine and fall to a killing bloodlust based chapter. i just having trouble taking this seriously, thou i do like the idea behind it.
