I know that the immortal hoplites have already been brought up but that was back in april and it seems that A LOT more companies are shifting from Romans and Napoleonics to Ancient Greece! (Please also tell me if my pics arnt showing!)

First up, once again, we have wargames factory who are planning on making Persians

We're excited to launch a completely new range for Wargames Factory - Legacy of the Greeks!

We'll be showing off the first plastic for this range next week - but in the meantime we wanted to showcase some of our "greens"! Now, remember that we use the SensAble Freeform sculpting system and design and tool everything in a digital environment so when we say "green" we mean that these images have been shaded in green tones!

Without further ado - Persians!!!

Next up is the company who jump started the plastic 28mm greek genre, Immortal Miniatures with Classcial Greek Hoplites, Spartan Hoplites (both of these will be variantions of the origional set) and also Achaemenid Persian

This box will contain 24 hard plastic hoplites, bases and new water slide transfers. This set will be priced at £12.
The main frame of figures is the same as the Ancient Greek Hoplites set, but included is a new frame with new bodies (later bronze armour and un armoured with exposed shoulder) and a variety of helmet styles, including the many shapes of Pilos, Phrygian, Thracian and Boeotian that appeared over the decades.
With this box you will be able to build a phalanx of hoplites to represent those who fought from the start of the Peloponnesian war until the death of Alexander, including Athens, Thebes (who’s equipment looked no different to the rest of the Greek hoplites), Syracuse and the enemies and ally’s of the Persian empire.

This box will contain 24 hard plastic hoplites, bases and new water slide transfers. This set will be priced at £12.
The main frame of figures is the same as the Ancient Greek Hoplites set, but included is a new frame with new bodies (later bronze armour and un armoured with exposed shoulder) and a variety of Spartan heads (beards and no moustaches!) and swords. Although it is not certain that the Pilos was the only helmet worn by the Spartans, it was obviously common in the army.

Ive been very quiet about these because they now look quite different to the image I shown a few months ago. Basically, a lot of new information has come to my attention regarding the appearance of the Persian army from this period. As I am aware there are rival companies working on Persian figures, so I cannot show too much right now (it has taken 2 years of research, building relationships with archaeologists and a trip to Iran to get to this point).
Before the end of the year, the whole Persian range will be updated to bring it up to date with the new evidence. I can say with quite some confidence that they will be the only historically accurate Achaemenid Persian miniatures on the market.
For now, here are a couple of pre-views....

And finally we have Victrix, the well known Napoleonic maker, who is also making Hoplites

It has been a while since we announced we were to release three sets of Greek Hoplites, Athenians, Thebans and Spartans.

These will contain 48 figures per set and will have options to make your figures in thrusting positions or spears upright depending on preference. We are also making the hands open and spears separate in case you want to replace plastic spears with metal.

There are numerous head variants in each set with crest, plume and feather options, giving you the option to make all your miniatures unique. Cloaks, shield skirts, swords, musician arms and officer arms give these sets even more variety.

We are not certain on the release date for these as yet as we are a bit behind on our releases and not sure if these will be be the next sets after the Chasseurs or it may be our Austrians!

Below are some images of positions that can be made from the figures.

I'm not familiar with the style of crest on the miniatures in the top-left hand corner of the last picture. Can anyone tell me what they are?

Love those last ones!

As usual, the Wargames Factory ones are boring as hell.

Well in their defense, Persian armor just isn't nearly as cool as Spartan armor.

Totally Agree!!!

Just look at those poses!! They look so boring. And the clothing quality looks bad, like they are 3-ups and have been sculpted out of playdo. They are just like the Sci-Fi Shock Troopers they made. And I remember I got their zombies and celts. Absolutely terrible quality. And on the WGF forums, people says "awesome" "can't wait" "wow" "incredible"

This plus the undying, blind Fanboyism thats running rampant is the EXACT reason why I unsubscribed and will never be back to WGF forums.

That happened when the zombies came out. Then the Shock Troopers.

Look at this video of this guy reviewing the WGF zombies. on the site in the comments below. about only 3 people commented saying they are bad. Everybody else says they look great.

I find this thing very annoying to see people be so stupid and call these goods models. Finally I found someone who has the same thoughts as me. Everybody else hates me for giving my reason why I don't like them at all.

Without my reference book to hand I can't tell you the name, but there was a Greek, bronze helm styled on the Scythian cap.

WGF is one of those that people are either going to love them, or hate them.

Myself, I dislike how the detail lines on their models are soft. I feel almost that the model was carved out of butter that is slowly melting.

Just to give you an idea of the mindset around my parts... My FLGS ordered a box of the zeds to check out with the mindset of possibly carrying them. (Around here people play alot of All Things Zombie.)They were then promptly given away for free after a solid look over to the first person that would take them.

BoW do great hobby and build videos but they generally suck at reviewing due to a real lack of opinion, save on GW products really. That's about the only stuff I find them critical on.

Victrix has actually been around a longgggg time. They used to make these great 20mm bendable plastic historicals. We are seeing more of the ancient greece comming out which is good, but I hope to god wargames factory doesn't make those as their historical ranges suck, and they really need to find a good sculptor or at least somone who knows how to digi sculpt better then their current.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

The issue is that people know they're going to be cheap. I got about 50 or so of those Zombies and used them to practice new painting techniques. In the end, I have several models that aren't meant to be inspected up close, but look great as a mob.

Shock Troopers are the same thing. Some people don't care about detail. They just want to quickly and cheaply get a mob of GW-alternatives.

I have a friend that uses the models for RPGs, and they work great for that.

As for the BoW video, understand that BoW tends to remove any comments they find 'disagreeable'.

The price of WGF models is what is attractive. If you want impressive models, there are dozens of other 25/28mm companies that produce Historical models. WGF does, however, produce cheap models.

We're all just spoiled because GW is really damn good at making their plastics.

Yeah, my major beef with BoW is that they really don't offer any kind of opinions on the grand majority of models they "review". The only harsh words they've ever said was for GW's rereleased Basilisk.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I think they're hypaspists since they're modeled with a regular spear instead of the sarissa.

-edit-
On the matter of BoW, I'm really not looking for their opinion during the unboxings. They show close-ups of the sprues which is what I really want. Give me a good look at the sprues and I can form my own opinion.

28mm Truescale most likely so using them for warhammer is probably out of the question since they would be thinner

The Napoleonics minis are the same height as GW when you put them on GW bases. That should solve the problem.
