Since I don't have a pod yet... are those bottom 'talons' part of the pod hit or from another set?

They are the tops of the fins, cut off and relocated to the bottom.

Yep Yep you are correct essentially there is a gap already pre cut near the top of the fin so i decided to cut there had to make an angled cut after that to make it fit better on the bottom but so far it looks pretty good. still working on pics for you guys should be posted around 9pm my time tonight.

Man you a genius - a stupidly simple conversion that uses no external parts other than what comes in the box and a teeny bit of green stuff - and is a dead ringer for the original ,once its painted you will have a hard time telling the two apart from a distance !

(unless you will be using it for both CSM and SM lists, in that case, i'd leave spikes to a minimum, or make them detachable.... hmmmmmmmmm

Actually, that's nowhere near true.
Nobody who knows what a real one looks like would ever get the two confused and, even at a reasonable distance, it would never look *that* close, side-by-side.

That said, I agree that it's a great idea and is very well executed.

My only concern is the greenstuff. You've kind of demolished the lines there by using it. Honestly, I'm hoping this will be a Nurgle dedicated pod, so taht you can cover the joins with Nurglish infestation. IMO, a better thing would have been to attach the pieces with plastic glue and, if you stull felt that more support was necessary, create a plasticard plate/series of places to blend everything in.

All in all, though, it is coming along rather well, and I look forward to your completed piece.

Very true. But I think the trick is that it is instantly recognisable as a dreadclaw, as opposed to a dropod with spikes. Yet if you were running chaos using the SM codex (a recently fallen chapter for example) it works fine as a normal drop pod.

Or possibly even if you were doing a pre-heresy army since all the legions had them then. Going out of commission, yes, but that was still a work in progress.
