Was looking at eternal warrior rule description and diresword and I began to wonder:
Does eternal warrior rule work against failed ld test from diresword?

Does it cause Instant Death?

If so EW will prevent it, as it prevents instant death effects.

If not it will bypass EW, like Nemesis force weapons.

If it actually invokes the Instant Death rule, then Eternal Warrior will counteract its effect.

However, if it does not (like Nemesis Force Weapons, which use the term "Slain Outright," instead of "Instant Death," and therefore do not invoke the Instant Death rule) then it would in fact bypass Eternal Warrior, and its full effect would be felt.

Edit: DAMN! A minute and thirty-seven seconds too slow.

It says that if you fail save, victim dies automatically and is removed regardless of remaining wounds... Does not say instant death...
So it basically is instant death, but it doesn't say that specifically... So that's why I wonder...

Nos and Saint are correct. If it causes "Instant Death", then EW goes "lol" and ignores it.

I'm looking at the Diresword entry (pg 30) right now, and you're right: "if a model suffers any unsaved wounds from a diresword, it must immediately pass a Leadership test for each wound suffered. If any of those tests are failed, the victim dies automatically and is removed regardless of remaining wounds."

Direswords are tricksy! They basically spell out the effects of Instant Death without actually at any time saying the words "Instant Death." I'd say EW does nothing in this case.

EW does nothing because the DireSword does NOT cause Instant Death.

However a far less effective one, as it requires the enemy to fail Ld tests.

Useful against nid MCs I guess, now their immunit to ID has gone.

Tehnically, one of the Phoenix Lords, Asurmen has one. Of course, he's as expensive as that chocolate chainsword in a diamond box.

That would be quite nasty against a person like calgar, with his low initiative. It couldnt touch the important stuff like abaddon or daemonprinces, but it is a VERY threatening weapon to mawlocs and carnifexes.
