I've been a firm believer that the only worthwhile upgrade for the Chaos Vindicator is Daemonic Possession, to keep it moving and shooting and I've often seen people talk about putting Havoc Launchers on them but dismissed the idea because you should be moving 6" and firing that Demolisher instead and since you can't fire any other weapon, why spend points on something you can't use?

Having said that, I'm rethinking the addition of a Havoc Launcher myself. My line of reasoning is that the #1 complaint I hear about Vindicators is that its too easy to either immobilize or weapon destroy them and after either case, they are next to useful. The best fix I have is to provide it with a weapon that has sufficient range and LOS abilities to hit anything it can see if you get immobilized and is significantly dangerous to be a worthwhile weapon if you lose the Demolisher and the only gear that fits both of those requirements is the Havoc Launcher.

Oh and possibly most importantly, it would be nice to find a valid use for this cool looking Chaos-only piece of wargear.

So what says the group? Am I grasping at straws here or have I made a valid point?

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Well i could see it working on the Vindie but i typically just use it as a battering ram when it has a weapon destroyed result. I can see what you are saying though when becoming immobilised or weapon destroyed or both you can still do damage. The problem is at that price you might as well have bought a defiler with a HL.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

The question is: do you have the points left over from spending it on everything else in the list?
I wouldn't call it something to plan on having on the Vindi.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I was thinking of using it to give the Vindicator a more flexible loadout and using it as an alternative to the standard Oblit or Defiler for Chaos, so in that regard I'd have to factor the points in at the start of list building.

I guess the reason question is, is the Havoc Launcher punchy enough to warrant being a significant threat if I lost my Demolisher?

@minigun762:
Personally, I rather just move 12" and tank shock stuff/mobile terrain/block LoS'er instead.
Requires no extra cost and prob. has more utility that way.

Now if we are talking about an Immobilized and Destroyed Demolisher....well, in that high specific case a havoc launcher would be desirable,...but then again, it's highly specific, so would be questionable to invest in it when there are other options available to spend those points.

That is exactly the case I'm describing, not so much because its common but more because its the standard arguements against using a Vindicator.

I have to admit that much of this is an attempt to justify the Havoc Launcher itself because I really like the concept of it but I'm failing to find an acceptable way to deploy it.

I mean, the only other suggestion at this point is to just wait til GW updates the CSM codex, lawl.

I'm a Deathguard/Nurgle player, so I'm pretty happy with the Nerf Stick up his rear end .
