So I am a new member here, and I know there are some bangers around here, and I just wanted to get acquainted with my brethren. I saw fovorite metal sub genre and was tempted to post in it, but I was warned by the three month old sign.
I really love going to live metal shows, I havent been too many because I am a mere 16. However I am sure there are lot of epic shows that people have been to, what are they? So far I went to Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament in KC that was a crazy show, I am a huge thrash metaler, and loved every second of it. I almost got to see Mastadon and Maiden, but couldn't go due to no ride.... So what are some shows you guys have been to?

What the? Wish I knew about those shows. Damn how did they play in me and I not even notice?
Welcome to DAKKA BTW
Went to see mudvayne live, and the opened for Disturbed. Oddly enough I left thinking Disturbed was 10x better then Mudvayne lol. Saw Slipknot on their first Ozzfest before anyone knew who they were. I was impressed big time, to bad they suck something fierce now though.
Thats about it for the "metal" acts Ive seen live.

Nice I never was much of a slipknot fan...But yeah that show was insane it was super packed though. I was banging my brains out, by the time Megadeth played. I like metallica but their new stuff is bad...An Testament is just insanely good. Nuff said. I love the whole legacy album.
I wouldnt say Im a slipknot fan, but they still put on a good show (back then) credit due kindda thing.
The best concert bar none Ive seen was NIN though. It was just insanely awesome. I can tell ya that if I get a chance to see Iron Maiden in person I will definitely go. I saw a live dvd a few months back and was just FLOORED at how good it was, turned me into an instant fan for sure.

I've seen GWAR on haloween night. I never laughed so hard for so long. Those guys are just plain hilarious. Met them at GenCon one year long ago. Other than that the only metal shows I have been to were little local acts. One day I would like to catch Bolt Thrower. I love the sludgey metal.
I'm not huge into metal, but I've seen Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Machinehead, Godsmack and a few others I can't remember at the moment. Megadeth was far and away the best show, I had high hopes for Sabbath but Tony Iommi alzheimered out halfway through his solo and started over, so it ended up lasting 20 minutes.
Godsmack makes my pants happy. I do find it quite hilarous that Sully has so deep a voice for such a wirey dude though. Cracked me up the first time I saw him singing

Hahaha! Thats so sick that you saw black sabbath but, thats so funny he forgot his solo.
I like a little of everything i guess, but as far as I'm concerned, nothing beats power metal! Freedom call, Falconer, Spellblast, Power Quest, Firewind, Dreamtale, oh and did i mention Freedom call?
Gotta love 'em!

I'm a big power metal fan. From J. Priest to Rhapsody of Fire, if it's fast, heavy and has inhuman vocals, chances are I'll love it.
I enjoy almost all varieties of metal with a few distinct exceptions, but it's all about the power!
...just realised that this post is pretty much exactly the same as the one I quoted. I guess that was the point.

POWER METAL
Powermetal is good, have you guys heard of angel dust?
While I've always been a bigger "fan of punk",I've been to quiet a few metal shows.
A quick list of various bands I've seen would include.
Ozzy
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Dio
Motley Crue
Gwar
Metalica
Megadeath
Slayer
NIN
Marilyn Manson
Lamb of God
Celtic Frost
Venom
White Zombie.....etc.
With the exception of Motley Crue...I enjoyed all the other shows a lot.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

VENOM!? how was that? thats so gnar that you saw them, they are defiantly one of my favorite bands.
May the the blessings of His Grace the Emperor tumble down upon you like a golden fog. (Only a VERY select few will get this reference. And it's not from 40k. )
I tend to go to bulk shows like Ozzfest to get a little bang for my buck being as I don't go to concerts often, but recently I managed to land tickets to Iron Maiden's newish tour, went to it, and it was seriously sick.
As for kinds of metal, power, some black, folk, hardcore, classic, doom, death, sludge, melodic, operatic....I've got it all baby. Save for grindcore. If I wanted to hear someone eat a microphone, I'd go to a grocery store.
Seen my fair share of metarrl; Five Finger Death Punch, Sabaton, Dream Theater, Slayer, Children of Bodom, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Katatonia, Megadeth, Metallica, Priestess, Suicidal tendencies, Akercoke, Opeth, Iced Earth...probably a lot more. Plenty of other shows, not necessarily metal. Best show I've ever been to was probably 65daysofstatic in a show of about 100 people. That was immense.
Just bought tickets for Hammerfest 3 in Wales next year. Not many bands confirmed for it yet, but so far it's looking good with Evile, Gama Bomb, Onslaught, My Ruin, Biohazard, Municipal Waste, Accept and Revoker just confirmed.

Oh boy, how was the maiden show? I wanted to go really bad to the one in tinley park/chicago
I see alot of metal and rock artists from 30-40 years ago still prevalent today unlike other pop music stars(miley cyrus for example) I guess i see why. they have a unigue sond to each band. unlike most pop music.

I agree, Ive seen ALOT of "classic rock" type bands growing up. And those are usually really good. I think its because back in the 70s, you had to actually be GOOD and play your ass off at shows to get the word out about your band. Now a days its Mtv and mixers to make bands sound good. Alot of modern bands Ive seen friggin SUCK live. Again back to Mudvayne. I went to see THEM live, and my god it was close to terrible. The tempo would go too fast, and then slow down, and the lead singers voice would cut out from trying to scream to hard and the like. Id rather listen to them on cd tbh
