Recently I got rid of my old Space Marine army because I got into magnetizing and converting and wanted a fresh start. I have already began my new army (pics to come soon), chosen a paint scheme, created some form of back story, but I cannot choose a good name.

Fast n' light-
I am creating my army around an Imperial Fists sub-chapter that specializes in pre-siege tactics (i.e.-raids, etc). I am going to have several scout units, some predators, possibly some speeders, and some assault squads to represent this.

Part of the converting (pics to come soon) is going to include silenced bolters and high tech wargear.

As far as the name goes I am toying with Shadow Legion or Night Raiders. I personally like the Shadow Legion but I'm not sure.

What do you think of the paint scheme and any thoughts about a name?

Oh, can anyone give me some pointers on painting white? I can get a smooth look to it but I like to use ink and blank ink and white don' t mix.

The green looks a bit odd. Rules wise you could use Shrike as his rules would fit the bill.

if you like to use ink, than ink the model before you paint white. Ive always found a nice foundaiton for white is mixing scorhed brown and codex grey. then I work up to a mix of fortress grey and skull white. Finally I just highlight with skull white.

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

I chose the green because it offers a nice contrast to the white n' grey. What would you recommend?

As far as Shrike goes I just built my own version recently. I'll post a pic this evening. I like the ability to have Fleet for assault marines. Especially if you take a Vanguard unit with lightning claws.

Thanks i'll give it a go. I usually use a lot of grey for a foundation with white. Never tried scorched brown. Do you have any pics of this? My paint stuff is packed for the time being otherwise I would test it myself.

You could mix the 2 names and get Night Shadows. Just a thought.

I personally like the green, its a vibrant contrast on the rest of the minis. Not to mention I thought about using a very similar scheme on a couple of SM I painted

yes i do, if you look at my pics, particularly my apothecary's or snaguinary priests, you will see what im talking about. The nice thing about mixing the scorcehd brown and codex grey for your base is the fact that grey responds real well to this foundation, and you dont have to keep laying lots of color on the model. Check out my pics....it also just give the model a nice hue, i think its always better to paint grey rather than straight white!

Dude! Your apothecary is sick! I love how the white sort of pops. I'll have to try that.

How do you get your white and red to look so smooth? I've tried everything. White base coat, watered down colors, etc and I can't get anything to look like that.

Thanks for the idea dude. I will take that into consideration. Maybe something along the lines of Shadow Knights.

Thanks again, yeah the green does catch the eye. I'm open to suggestions though.

WIPS-

The first model is my custom Shrike. The second and third are of some of my custom bolter pics. The forth is an old model of mine, that his since been partially cannibalized for parts, but shows a rough idea of my paint scheme.

I am not sold on the green, if you darken it I would be more inclined to like it. If you are doing Imperial Fist Successor Chapter, possibly use yellow instead of green? I would say maybe even a dark red. It just seems if they are raiders and stealthy, lime green isn't the best camo color.

I'm liking what I see, however, I'm inclined to agree with MadMaverick that a darker green would look nicer. I really love the eyes on bottom marine, gives me ideas for the CSM legion I'm working on.

You could replace the green with a red! Red + Black = Deadly!

I like this chapter. Just tell me the fluff so I can NOMNOMNOM it and then I will be a higher consciousness.
Anyway Looks awesome.
Also what is going to be your army make up? is it going to be centered around Assault squads and Sternguard?

Thanks. I'm playing with some variations on it now.

Thanks again. I gave up trying to do pupils on many of my models. Funny thing is that by not doing so it gives a cool appearance.

I like the idea. I'm toying with the yellow and this is what I came up with.

Thanks! I'm playing with the red n' black still.

I'm working up some more fluff and I'll post that sometime soon.

I want my army to be fast. I am going to have at least one unit of Vanguard Veterans and I'm going to arm them with lightning claws and jump packs. Throw in a jump Chaplain as well. that unit eats up a LOT of points but it is epic when you assault. Especially if you have Shrike in your army.

Attached is a picture of a Vanguard Veteran that I have been working on as a side project. Both arms are magnetized as well as the jump pack to keep the model versatile. I am going to be doing the same for my new army.

Troop wise I'm going to have x2 Tactical Squads with Razorbacks and 1-2 Scout Squads. Throw in x2 Dreadnoughts for my elites and a Devastator Squad along with 1-2 Predators for my Heavy support.

i liked the green in the paint scheme, but on the model I wanted a much brighter green. A yellow might be nice, but I'm not sure if it will go with the black very much, maybe use a dark Grey instead of black?

i love your bolters thou! If you want a raid army BA codex maybe, assault marines as troops, outflanking preds, and such

I am aiming at a DARK grey. Just trying to figure out the trim.

Thanks. I am trying to make the bolters look high tech and silenced so it resembles something a stealth army may use. I am debating on attaching part of an auspex on the side of the bolter as some sort of sensor. Too much?

I think I am going to go generic with the exception of Shrike. I have never been a huge fan of the Blood Angles.

I like either the yellow (ties them to the imperial fist), just maybe a more golden yellow color, or the first red you have posted.

That was part of my inspiration. I like that color scheme.

Cool thanks. I do like the yellow a lot. I did it really quick and I agree a more golden yellow would be best.

So, here's another question. I recently started getting into sculpting with green/grey stuff.

How would you recommend going about making the loin cloth thing like in my pics?

I have attempted several rough attempts but I can't get the green stuff to look and flow like cloth would.

I have found GS very difficult to use. I have actually used real cloth for some of my marines, definitely alot easier to do and can look great, some very nice detail.
