Hi there - started this as a discussion, but it turned into more of an Army List thing so I'm posting it here. Imperial Guard get a lot more models at this low level. Don't know which one to pick, though.

I voted IG #3. It has roughly the most amount of models, while still being quite fully functional. At 500 pts. that list as a lot of shooting and staying power. I have to admit, after seeing the Mech IG and Blob IG in action, I definitely think the Blobs have more fun!

Hmm. Yes. I only wish I could afford all the extras to kit them out properly - power weapons, maybe a power fist etc. It does mean I'll get to do a bit of a 2-day mad fix-up-my-old army blog, though...

I vote daemons...could you make one of the daemonettes a herald?

Hmm. I'd have to lose a few Daemonettes to do it, and I really don't want to drop the unit size. Could always lose a fiend, but the fiends are so gooooodddd...

So, it looks like Blob IG is the way to go - I've tried a bit of tweaking of the list - any improvement?

I've lost the three Heavy Bolters to three Grenade Launchers, and used the point to give my PCS a Powerfist, Meltagun and Krak Grenades.

Is it worth it, though? It's a much better anti-tank option than the Missile Launcher PCS, but I'd have to get quite close to use it....

* PCS (Krak grenades, Meltagun, Powerfist)
* Infantry Squad (Grenade Launcher, Sgt with Power Weapon, Commissar with Power Weapon)
* Infantry Squad (Grenade Launcher)
* Infantry Squad (Grenade Launcher)
* Heavy Squad (Autocannons)
* Heavy Squad (Missile Launchers)
* 5 Rough Riders

Heavy Bolters are more useful in Combat Patrol IMO, and unless your PCS are for counter-attacking, they might not get close enough to use the powerfist.

That's my worry - but it does give the Infantry Platoon a bit more maneuverability. Hmm. Maybe we just want the firepower.... Another option might be to switch the Grenade Launchers for Mortar teams - same point value but might be a better replacement for Heavy Bolters - the Mortars are dedicated anti-infantry, whereas the Grenade Launchers are kinda in the middle of everything...

If I were to stick a pfist on anyone it'd probably be the commissar as he'll make far more use of it. Not entirely sure about the krak 'nades on the PCS either, possibly opt for another sgt with a power weapon? Don't have the codex in front of me to play around with points totals

I think we're agreed on the Powerfist being useless. If i swap the fist and krak grenades out. If i lose them, I save 20pts. My options are...

* Infantry Squads have Grenade Launchers, PCS has two more Meltaguns. (+20pts)

* Infantry Squads have Mortars, PCS has two more Meltaguns (+20pts)

* Infantry Squads upgrade to Hvy Bolters (+15pts), PCS sticks with one meltagun and the commander gets meltabombs (+5pts)

Are the extra meltaguns really needed when I've already got 3 ML and 2 Autocannons? It's only Combat Patrol...!

I wouldn't say any more melta is necessary. If you're taking mortars and h.bolters for your inf squads then it does make it more of a gunline, purely depends on how you wan to play it. Could you possibly mix mortar and two H.bolters leaving 10 points for another rough rider? Possibly switch the PCS melta into them? (although this always feels like a bit of a waste) Of course dependant on the models available to you.

Ahhhh the headache of low point lists, nothing can be wasted, lots is situational, pray it develops in your favour!

I'm loathe to take a single mortar, since they really work best as a barrage.

Maybe I'll just stick to the heavy bolters and find something interesting to spend the 5pts on!

Agreed on the single mortar. Good luck and I hope to see some more battle reps if possible, I need something to help me procrastinate at work!

Ah, thanks. Well, for the next two days I'll make sure to file regular updates under the soon-to-be-started blog "Ian rebases, repaints and rearms a 50man IG army in 48hrs". Should be good procrastination material.
