I'm a potter by trade, a gamer at heart, and there seems to be enough interest based off of this thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/330027.page So I'm selling mugs. They are microwave and dishwasher safe. They're also pretty tough. I'm keeping them pretty simple, a black mug with a wax seal and parchment on the side. If you want something besides a wax seal or a different color, let me know. There's quite a bit of leeway with a lot of the iconography. A lot of it is stuff that Games Workshop didn't create, but simply uses (wax seals, the "U"ltra Marines symbol, a wolf skull, 3 circles or skulls for Nurgle, Double-Headed Eagles, or multiple wax seals, etc...) If you want something besides the Wax Seal, explain to me what you want, or better yet, PM me a picture of it. I'll let you know if it's doable or not. That being said, there's a lot of stuff that Games Workshop did come up with. I'm not interested in copyright infringement, so you can tell me what you want, but I may not be able to (in good conscious) make it. Also, I can put the icon (or icons) of your choosing on either side of the mug, just let me know what side you want it on at the time of ordering.

I am selling the standard (Black Glaze with Red Wax Seal) here in the Swap Shop for $25 USD and "custom" mugs from $30 on up, depending on what you're looking for. As I start to experiment, and get some of the iconography down pat, many of the "custom" items, won't be custom anymore and the price will drop. As I figure out new iconography and drop the price for that particular mug, I'll post a pic of it so you guys have more to choose from, and there won't be a question on the prices.

***Shipping will be as follows***
:$10 Shipping to any where in the USA using USPS.
:$10 Shipping to any APO address using USPS.
:$20 Shipping to anywhere in Canada using USPS.
:$20 Shipping to any where in the USA using UPS.
:$35 Shipping to anywhere internationally using USPS.

I know that's a lot for shipping, but these things are sturdy. Sturdy=heavy and heavy=higher shipping cost. I'm basing these prices on the USPS website pricing guide for a package that's 9x9x9 and weighs 3 Lbs. These prices are what it cost me when I walk into the post office and have it shipped, plus the cost of box (which aren't really cheap either). It actually cost me $50 to ship internationally but I'm only charging $35, so it hurts me a bit too. If I've missed something, and someone can point out a cheaper (yet still safe way) to have these things shipped, by all means, let me know. I'll be glad to lower the shipping cost. I'll go ahead and say now, generally, it would be a safe bet to assume you'll have to wait a month (or close to it) between the time you place your order and the time you actually get your mug(s).

***I will combine shipping if you order more than one! And I'll eat part of the shipping cost, so +$4 for shipping after you pay shipping for the first mug!***

I don't offer insurance per say. At least not from whatever shipping service you choose (I've shipped enough pottery over the years to know that shipping services don't honor the insurance they offer unless they pack it themselves). What I do offer is this: If you receive a mug and it's broken, PM me with a picture of the broken mug and I'll either refund your money, or make you a new mug and ship it for free. Your choice.

Finally, these things are hand made, literally one of a kind mugs. So I can't guarantee you that they will all look exactly like what's pictured...in fact I CAN guarantee you that they WON'T look exactly like what is pictured here. The color, handle, shape and size will vary slightly between all of them. If you'd like a set, and want them to look as similar as possible, let me know and I'll do what I can. Also, if you want a picture of your specific mug before I have it shipped so you know EXACTLY what you're getting, PM me and I'll be happy to do it.

As far as payment goes with all international orders, PAYPAL is the ONLY means of payment I'm willing to accept. If you live in the Continental US, I am willing to accept a personal check or money order, though I'll have to receive the check and wait for it to clear before I send your order. So if you're interested in buying a mug or two PM me what it is you want, and I'll give you a general time frame of when you can expect it.

***EDIT*** I've made a lot of mugs for members only to not receive PM's back when I tell them their orders are ready to be paid for and shipped...that's really not going to fly guys. The only thing I can think to do is to start requiring payment before I start working on your mug. So that's how it's going to be from now on. If you've already got an order placed, you're in the clear. I'll wait until after I've made your mug, then sent you pics in a PM to let you know that it's ready to be shipped and paid for. But fair warning...if I PM you to let you know it's ready, and I don't hear anything from you within a week, I'm putting up pics, and I'm selling it to the first person that wants it.

Totally bought one. Can't wait to enjoy a cold one from from this cool mug.
Gotta say, the rest of your pieces look pretty cool too. I'd be tempted to buy one if i didnt have a little kid fond of breaking things.

Man, I hate me some shipping. I was like "$40 for a cup? Hell no." Then I looked at it again and I was like "$40 for a thing of beauty? Ok, I guess I'll get 3..." Dammit.

After the new year I'll have to get three for me and my buddies.

You, sir, are talented.

I received mine just yesterday. UPS managed to nerf their first attempt at delivery (despite the fact that someone was home all day), but ive come to expect that from UPS. The box was a bit beat up too (another UPS classic), but thankfully the mug was undamaged.
Now, i dont know a whole lot about pottery but i'll tell you what i can. The piece isn't perfect, and i never expected it to be; There's a slight bulge on one side, the handle is on crooked, and some of the glazing is messed up around the handle. It is still a very nice piece though. Its nice and solid, i dont feel like it'll break in my hands, and its not something that will tip over easily (a definate advantage when drinking). It also fits very comfortably and securely in my hands, futher adding to its bonus' when drinking. The coloring is a little odd but i still like it; Its not so much black as it is a really really dark green/blue. I'm looking forward to using this mug not only for beer, but coffee and definately hot chocolate style drinks too.
Thanks Beezley

A few of my latest creations...Orks!

Spoiler:

Beer_&_Bolters mentioned something about the handle being crooked. It's typically noticeable with anything handmade that has a handle. Most of the time, it's hardly noticeable at all, other times it is. Ceramic mugs you buy in a store are cast in molds. The clay pored into the molds is liquid when pored and therefore has no memory. When you throw a mug on a potters wheel, it's stiff enough that it remembers what it was before it was formed and tries to revert back to that state. This is not such a big deal when forming the cup portion of the mug, but it can be with the handle. Hence the twist. This is pretty much as bad as it gets...
Spoiler:

Some potters go out of their way to do a lot of over correcting to make their mugs, pitchers, and whatever else with a handle "perfect". That being said, you don't really know what's going to happen until it comes out of the kiln. When you put something in the kiln, it's rolling the dice...you're hoping for that 6, know you'll probably get a 3, and are well aware that a 1 is quite possible. Personally, I don't much see the point. In my opinion, it's a one of a kind, unique item...yea, you want the cup handle to function (and it will), but do you want something that's suppose to be handmade to look perfect? Kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Glazes are kind of the same way...something of a crap shoot. I know roundabout what color somethings going to turn out. But it's never exactly the same...never. The outcome of the glaze depends on how exact the mineral composition of the glaze was mixed, How uniform the temperature in the kiln was, how quickly the temperature rose in the kiln, and how slowly it cooled (and that depends on climate).

Every time I open the kiln, I pray that nothing twisted, cracked, warped, or exploded (yes, things explode) The career of a potter is an exciting one to say the least, haha.

Bought 4.
There was a bit of an "adventure" with some new clay he bought, but I'm satisfied with the end result of our deal.

Sadly, I wish I'd seen the Ork mugs before I bought purity seal mugs. LOL

Since the thread's popping back up again, I want to make another comment.

These things suck.

Yeah. Totally kidding there.

My mug keeps my beverage cold for well over an hour. Probably more. Haven't timed it. I can only presume that the opposite would be trus for hot beverages.

I don't know much about the properties of clay, and the like, but I'm really impressed with how well it keeps my drink cold (sans ice) and I just grow happier with this thing each time I use it.

Ha, that is pretty funny. I ordered a "Praetorian" mug in red with a yellow lion so I assumed it was mine. Sorta jealous now since mine hasn't shown up yet. Congrats on your mug, though, it looks great!
