How many scoring units do fellow imperial guard players take at 1750? I usually take 5-6 scoring units at the 1850 to 2000 range that I usually play at but finding it rough to find a 1750 list I really like.

My current list has 6 (3 vet squads, pcs all in chimera and 2 infantry that go in vendettas) while a friend of mine is running only 4 vet squads in chimeras. I do like the infantry squads as they make my vendettas scoring and give me bubble wrap if I need it but cutting down on scoring units would let me fit in a hydra or two. I'm thinking 4 might be a little on the low side as IG tend to die really fast once their vehicles explode and tournies tend to make a 5 objective mission but having less scoring units would allow for more firepower.

4 veteran squads should be fine. At 1500 was running 3 veteran squads back when I played Imperial Guard.

Yeah, 4 at 1500 is definitely fine, while 4 at 1850 will probably be fine.

Of course, I'm the guy who runs 10 at 1500, so...

This is probably dumb, but can you take multiple Masters of Ordnance to get multiples of his artillery bombardment shot? Can you take multiples of any advisors beside bodyguards?

Yes, but OotF and Astropath don't stack. Taking two of those just gives you a backup in case one is killed.

Others can be taken in multiples and will stack.

I get 2 vet squads w/2 meltas and 1 infantry w/2 flamer in chimera's, leaves me with pleanty for my HQ, hvy weapon squads and special weapon squads. I play Catchian so 1750 is all I can do now untill I get 3 more Catchian infantry squads for a 50 man blob unit and 3 hvy weapon teams missile launchers i hope.

Not quite. I think you can still only have one per CCS, but having an extra one has some sort of effect, whereas with Astropaths/OotF, you don't get anything extra.

I would think the 2 top factors would be

#1 how agressive is your playstyle? If the plan is turn 1 suicidal shenanigans with vets I wouldn't count them as scoring units.

#2 are there any tournament special scenarios? Good examples is ard boys only gives a major for tabeling someone and requires holding 5 objectives for a massacre.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

I've got 6 at 1750 (PCS, 3 x PIS, 2 x Vets). It works for me.

You can take two, as long as you take two CCS's - one per CCS.
