So.. I had never painted/modelled before a month or so ago. I had always wanted to but never really spent enough time with friends who were into the hobby to get started. My husband used to play late 80's early 90's.. so we've recently decided we will start up some armies and get together with friends who also used to play..

These are my first jobs, constructive criticism definately welcome!! You can tell me they are crappy but please at least give me some ideas on how to fix it..

There are two kind of random terrain pieces, which I made for practice.. and then some orks painted from the black reach set. I'm pretty happy with the 'blood' jobs, and some of the metal work, but want to go back and detail more of the skin, and clothing pieces to make them nice and sharp. This set was actually painted with enamel paints not acrylics, which after a while I figured out was pretty hard to get a nice smooth finish or wash. oops... The next ones are going to be painted using acrylics so Im hoping I can get a nicer finish..

Yesterday I was given a whole lot of extra orkies to paint up/mod and so that will take up most of the next few days.. This week I want to make up a werkshop scratch build for fun and practice, and will post some pics as that goes on too.

I'm liking the orks, especially the blood on the axes, really adds to the orkiness!

A dot is simply a line that has gone on a walk.

You seem to have based your models quiets nicely, what did you use?

The terrain piece looks great, good job on that. But I'd spend more attention on the black pieces of clothing. Maybe start of with a layer of dark grey, almost black. Then add more layers lighter grey. you'll get some nice highlights after that.

that, or just basecoat it with a dark grey color, and then give it a black wash

I really love these, especially the bloody axes. Also, nice bases. The contrast quite nicely but don't draw attention away from the models.

EDIT: Oh, and I love your signature XD

Thank you!

Yeh I think I'd really like a very dark grey with a black wash.. I'm not sure how to go about it with these paints though, since I dont know if acrylics will stick over the enamels.

Are you talking about the miniatures or the terrain bits? I haven't finished the bases of the miniatures yet, I plan on doing that when I'm happy with the paint job.. so it is just a mix of paint splatter and primer at the moment on those hehe.

The terrain pieces are just on thin layered plywood from the craft store.

Thank you! I assume you are talking about the miniatures? I really wasn't thinking to leave them that way though, it is just paint/primer mess! I'm glad it doesnt look too bad though.

Haha I love it too

Some really nice terrain. Make sure your orks get full use of those cover-saves and get to chop up their enemies. Hope your waagh is succesful.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

If you only started a month ago...wow. They are brilliant. You must have done some kind of art thing before this though... Drill out the gun barrels to make them look more realistic. Also, try using a brown ink on some metal parts. Looks weathered (more realistically) and is a bit different, breaks up monotonous areas. Good first work though!

Thanks imp! yeh I've studied painting and printmaking in the past. I was getting impossibly frustrated at the beginning though, since I've done very small scale things on flat surfaces before and not had a problem, but the miniatures were doing my eyes in!

We are going to buy a dremel at some stage in the next month or so, and the gun barrels are all waiting until then.
Today I'm trying out some washes for fabric and some skin variations, we'll see!

I like the orkhide on your models and the terrain is lovely. The 'fermentation still' piece of terrain looks like it has nice milky tea running down the side, tho that is just my mediocre imagination plodding away. Oh and congrats on a particularly mucky signature....

Okay, the last couple of days I've tried to tidy them up a little.. pants skin etc. Added some colouring and edge work. I'm still not happy with some of the details, but I think they are getting there...
Also painted up a SM for my husband, and have started my first 'human faces' any feedback on that would be great too please!!
