Thats a first go?
WOW
(I would have thought, even though painting experience would help vastly painting anything, it would take a bit longer to perfect a new model/scheme so quickly...)

Very nice!. Technical feedback: Do more stages in the blends, and try a little glaze medium in there - it'll help avoid the chalky / streaky look, as will having a touch less paint on your brush.
With the GS cape - you could have smoothed out the blemishes using a water-soluble putty (milliput is ace for this, and Vallejo do a dropper bottle with premixed surfacing putty in it) and a wet brush to smooth it on like clay... But again, not a bad job at all. And drill the pistol!

Well done, painting blending and wash all look ace!
I have to say that the feet are bugging me though. Look at how they're facing in completely opposite directions, would anybody ever stand like that? I can see from the wip pic that you did a little cutting and chopping for a dynamic pose, next time just cut a little more and go for a more realistic stance.

Heresy!
Neither bald nor screaming!
Honestly, though, fantastic job, especially for a first go. Though a little bit of criticism on the cape... it looks, odd, near the backpack, a bit triangular if you will. It's not bad, it's just, weird. However, the paintjob is ace, and the cape doesn't detract any quality from the model whatsoever.

Your painting is really good, but your converting could use a little work. The green stuff cape is a little rough, and that Space Marine looks like he's trying to give his best cowboy impersonation with how his legs are spread.

I thought it looked i little like he wa about to kick the head of his base, because a spacemarine's base should be a chaos free zone, or did you mean to do something else entirely?

A red leather cape is certainly a novel idea, especially with a logo on it (a white base perhaps with the U marked off and then dyed would be how I'd do it). However, I suspect that they wouldn't give an Ultramarine a cape that had been dinged and scratched before he wore it into battle. Then again, maybe they touched up the cape with dye in between battles as part of their cleaning regime, like on shoes. I would suggest finding something with the leather texture in minature in order to press on the greenstuff in order to make it more obvious that it's not supposed to be cloth.
This is a relatively rough leather texture, using the back of your hand might work if it's not hairy, due to the tiny crisscrossing lines that make up human skin. However, that will mess up what's raised and what's not, obviously, so you might have to drybrush with a darker colour to get it to show up.
Back on-topic, I like the blue very much, I'm a big fan of the more subtle colour approach. The white logos on the cloak and the shoulder pad look like they could do with another coat and a bit more tidying up, you can see a colour difference between the middle of the U and it's borders.
As a side note, if you didn't want C&C on your work, this probably should have been in Showcase.
