So, I've been experimenting with ways to make gold come out better, and I discovered a nice idea.
I thought about colours. what could work?
I thought oranges greens or yellows [since gold is yellow, colours partially yellow.]
But these came out with som poor results. orange went rose, green turquoise and yellow looked like bronze
So I tried browns
I thought scorched brown because it was dark, giving a good build up.
firstly, materials:
You're gonna need a standard brush [you need a bit of paint on the brush at a time.]
scorched brown
shining gold
1.
find a surface to be gold. I chose the detail on the helmet.
2.
Paint it scorched brown.
3.
paint over a thin even coat of shining gold.
4.
paint over it a second time, in a simmilar thin layer of gold paint.
GALLERY:
Hope this helps if you're having trouble with golds!
It works with burndished gold. use bestial brown instead.

To be honest it feels awfully..basic. Basecoat and a single layer of pain, is it really neccesary to do a picture tutorial? And I might add, it doesn't seem to be that brightly coloured either...

I recommend this technique heartily. Funnily enough i too discovered it when painting my brettonians, cosmic. I find it helps with the horrible consistency of those particular GW paints (it flows like gold ink rather than paint, i believe it's something to do with suspending the metallic dust; the techniqe doesnt work as well in gold metallics as silver ones). Just to add a contribution. If using burnished gold i would also recommend a mithril silver (or is it called something else now?) highlight.

Oscarius... you've not seen the GW shining gold once it's gotten painted? I'm not prepared to do twelve layers of paint on one little area.

I do something similar, though I work on larger areas (I'm painting my seaguard gold and blue so, thats a lot of gold)
For that I do;
Calathan brown
Burnished gold
Sepia wash
Shining gold dry brush
Burnished gold dry brush
For smaller areas I use your technique but with calathan brown and burnished gold with a sepia wash to finish.

I do a similar technique:
1- Scorched Brown
2- Shining Gold
3- Devlan Mud
4- Burnished Gold
5- 1:1 Burnished Gold and Mithril Silver
Gives me a pretty good looking effect.
