Mission: 2 objectives in deployment zones
Deployment: Pitched Battle

I win the roll off and let the angels go first. From left to right, he anchored the left flank with the land speeder. Terminators next to them, behind the terminators was a 10 man combined assault squad with the librarian, and a priest. Next to the terminators was the sanguinary guard and dante. He split the last assault squad and used those 2 5 man squads to secure his other flank. He chose to outflank with the predators.

Fairly good deployment for what started on the table. No really juicy targets for the flamers to go after.

Blood Angels Turn #1: Everything advances up the center, he keeps his flanks secure.

A steady advance, keeping good spacing and giving me dangerous deep strike spots for the flamers.

Daemons Turn #1: I get in my initial wave which is 3 daemon princes, blood crushers, flesh hounds, and 1 unit of plague bearers. I drop everything in the unused part of the table away from both objectives except for the plague bearers who drop near my objective. I leave the plague bearers close enough for a 5 man assault squad to get to them (to see if I can get him to separate his forces). I also leave the blood crushers within assault range of his large assault squad but not the terminators (however the distance was about 15-16 inch's away and he would have to come at me through terrain). I would prefer getting the charge with the crusher's but if I can use them to sucker in the assault squad it would be worth it to kill off the priest and the librarian.

Theres another daemon prince off to the right and some plague bearers camping my objective to the right of that.

Blood Angels Turn #2: Neither baal comes in from reserves. He doesn't take the plague bearer bait and moves his mob forwards. The speeders put 2 wounds on the closest daemon prince. His shooting kills one blood crusher (I remove the closest one). Didn't really matter because he rolled a 1,2 for his assault through cover.

Not getting the charge on the crusher’s was painful.

Daemons Turn #2: I get in both flamer squads, a great unclean one, and a squad of plague bearers. I drop the plague bearers near his objective. I drop the unclean one back on my base to help protect it. I drop one unit of flamers near a 5 man assault squad on his objective, but they scatter back about 8 inchs. The other squad uses the crusher icon to land next to the assault squad that failed to assault. The first flamer squad kills 3 of 5 from the small assault squad, the other flamers only manage to drop 5 marines. I then charge. I send the hounds after the speeder squadron, they wreck two of the speeders and shake the third. I send one daemon prince into the large assault squad, he kills the priest, deals a wound to the librarian, and takes one wound in return. The wounded daemon prince assaults the sanguinary guard, they deal one wound to him, and he kills 3 guard (they then try to hit and run and he rolls a 6). The last daemon prince and the remaining three blood crushers charge the terminators, I manage to kill one terminator, but he whiffs the attacks back. I thought I would do a lot more damage, but it's now turned into a war of attrition.

I go all in.

Blood Angels Turn #3: He gets in one baal on the side where all of the action is taking place. It opens up on the flesh hounds killing 4 of them. The remaining land speeder zooms away. His two man assault squad assaults the flamers, killing two of them (one from wounds, one from no retreat). His last 5 man squad assaults the plague bearers going for his objective killing 2 of them and taking no wounds in return. The daemon prince assaulting the sanguinary guard kills the last priest and 2 of the guard, and takes one wound in return. The crushers and daemon prince fighting the terminators kill 2 of the terminators, I take a wound in return on the daemon prince. The daemon prince fighting the large assault squad kills the librarian and a couple of assault marines. Everything is locked in hth now.

Now this is what I call a fight the only thing not in hand to hand in this picture are the 3 flamers and the speeder.

The baal outflanks and fires on some flesh hounds. The flamers probably would have been the better target.

Daemons Turn #3: I get in the other great unclean one which I drop near my objective. The flamers jump over near the baal and stun it with their breath. The flesh hounds multi-assault the dante combat and the assault squad/plague bearer combat. Dante deals the last wound to the daemon prince and hit and run's out towards my objective. The combat becomes a slap fight. The crushers and daemon prince manage to finish off the last of the terminators, and the other daemon prince finishes off the large assault squad. The last flamer and lone assault squad sergeant beat on each other for no damage.

The combat’s start to wind down. Do you see that daemon prince in the tree’s? I didn’t, forgot about him until after the game.

Blood Angels Turn #4: He gets on the last baal and it comes on near my objective. He shoots up my plague bearer squad and then assaults them with Dante, between t he assault and shooting he kills 5 of 7 plague bearers. The flesh hound/plague bearer/asasult squad fight has some more slapping and a bit of tickling, I think 2 marines and 2 plague bearers go down. His land speeder maneuvers forwards to try to get in contesting range.

Dante killed 5 plague bearers in one turn. And the baal and land speeder prepare themselves for a turn 5 objective grab.

Daemons Turn #4: The last squad of plague bearers comes in and I drop them near my objective. I have a daemon prince assault the speeder for no damage. Both greath unclean ones assault Dante. They put two wounds on him and he breaks and run's. he ends up near the daemon prince that assaulted the speeder so he can't rally. There's more slapping happening on the other side of the board and he loses another assault marine, I lose another plague bearer. The flamers immobilize the baal on the far side.

I can’t believe I didn’t get Dante in the shot, he’s on the other side of that land speeder running away from my two great unclean one’s like a sisy .

Blood Angels Turn #5: The speeder boosts to try to contest and rolls a 1 on the dangerous terrain test. The baal tank shocks through onto my objective. I finally win the slap fight and consolidate towards his objective.

Daemons Turn #5: I assault the baal with 2 great unclean ones, a daemon prince, and 9 plague bearers. The daemon prince manages to wreck it right off the bat, but you can never be too safe with this sort of thing.

The daemons win it, holding two objectives to none. We discussed after the game what he could have done differently and this is what I managed to come up with. His biggest mistake was with deployment with the baals, just because you can outflank doesn't mean you always should (see previous games about the lesson "Just because you can descent of angel's doesn't mean you should", but that was a different Blood Angel's player ). With the baal's and the speeder's he has a bit of long range fire power he had no need to close with me so soon. Another mistake was shifting his entire army and going for the assault on the blood crusher's. He should have hung back a bit and done some shooting first. If the baal's had been on the table they would have decimated the hounds, which would have kept the skimmers up and moving for longer. He had the room and the speed to pull all of his units back out of assault range, and just shoot me up a bit. Moving up cost him getting the charge, which he really needed. Str5 vs str6 is much better than str4 vs. str6. Even if he had made the charge into the crusher's I think that would have been a mutual destruction sort of match up and it still would have given my daemon princes charges into his sanguinary guard and terminators, and the assault squad for that matter, which is why I baited with the crushers in the first place. On the flip side he can't afford to let the crushers assault him, but as long as he protects the terminators he should eventually be able to control the flow because of more ranged output.

Nice report. I particularly appreciated your thoughts in the debriefing at the end.

I certainly agree that the Baal preds were too important to put in reserve.

His assault marines are also way faster than the Bloodcrushers so at the least he should be able to run away for a while with his troops from them.

Thanks for the report, I like the overall Nurgle theme with some mixed in Khorne units.
