Hey all,
Had my first outing with the circle yesterday, just finished sorting out the pics. You can see my Circle in myblog here:
Between a Rock and a Hard Place - Circle Orboros by Vitruvian
I played aginst my friend Al who was using Cryx. The letters in brackets correspond to the letters on the map.
Al had:
Dhenegra (
W)
Reaper Heavy Jack (
Bold R)
Slayer Heavy Jack (
S)
Defiler Light Jack (
D)
2 Deathripper Light Jacks (
Small R)
I had:
Baldur (
B)
Megalith Character Heavy Warbeast (
M)
Wold Guardian Heavy Warbeast (
W)
Druids Unit (
D, leader is DL)
We rolled off and Al won, letting me go first. I chose the side opposite the Wood hoping to do some Circle-y shenanigans with it when i got there. I deployed in a central position behind the hege for cover, but pnning to have Baldur create the cover for me. Al deployed a refused flank, ignoring the forest.
Deployment:
1st Turn:
I moved up, moving up to the hedge with the Heavy beasts, Megalith and Baldur both b2b with the Wold Guardian in case he had any blast weapons. Baldur created a forest (green circle) right in between the 2 forces, which the druids moved towards. Having no range, the Druid leader cast Counter Magic, nulling spells cast on models within 8" of him. The rest cast Vortex, creating 3" cloud AOEs. Megalith and the Wold Guardian (
WG) both cast their animi, in order to give Balur fury next turn.
Al advanced the Cryx up fast, the Defiler splitting off to flank the Druids, everyone else moving forward. Forgive me, but im not really sure about the nuances of his turns, i was concentrating too much! Suffice to say, he did some stuff, nothing did anything and the turn was over.
2nd Turn:
Baldur leached up to full fury, then upkept the forest. The Druids moved as much into the forest as posible, and then failed to force bolt anyone. The Leader cast Counter Magic.
WG moved further forward, a measly 4"! Hes quite slow but hits like.......well.... a rock!!

Megalith moved up to support the Druids. Both warbeasts cast their animi for baldur to have fury. I found Baldurs rule allowing constructs to run/charge/power attack for free annoying at this point as with only 2 beasts i was finding it hard to get fury when they were not doing anything. Baldur moved up, then attempted to cas Earths Spikes at the Defiler but failed miserably even with boosting.
We had a rules query here, which ill ask at the end.
The defiler moved up to the druids and hit them all (!) with his Sludge Cannon, then failed to hit any of them

Thank goodness, corrosion would have been nasty. The reaper and slayer moved up to flank the forest and dhenegra moved forwards. Al was getting annoyed at counter magic at this point, as he couldnt cast any spells.
3rd Turn:
Things were starting to kick off now, baldur leached up to full fury again but let the forest disappear. The druids moved up into the heart of he Cryx, castig counter magic, and then force bolting the deathripper by dhenegra into charge range of Megalith. The Wold Guardian charged the defiler and promptly smahsed it into pieces. Megalith charged the afore-mentioned Deathripper and also smashed it apart. Both beasts were now on full fury. Baldur moved up and created a forest on top of the Reaper and remaining Deathripper, hopefully impeding them and blocking the slayer in the process. He then tried to cat a boosted earths spikes on the Reaper, but horribly whiffed again! I ended my turn.
Al started to trun up the heat again. The slayer moved into a druid, then threw him (2 handed) into Megalith (poor choice, should have gone for another target
imo). The druid died, megalith was fine. Dhenegra got pumped, charginginto the druids, popping her feat (reducing lots of things by 2

) and slaying three by herself with the help of focus. The druids ran, i assume, cant really remember how they got in that position. Then the crafty Reaper, moved out of the forest, into reach range of megalith, and harpooned baldur. He hit, causing damage, then dragged baldur into combat with him!!

Did not see that coming! After his hits, the repear caused 5 damage to baldur, definitely got off lightly there. The slayer moved to suppot dhenegra.
Final turn:
I saw an opening and promptly went or the kill. Baldur leaced 4 fury from megalith and healed himself thanks to megaliths special rule. Baldur moved out of mele rangeof the Reaper, the free strike missed and he was free to engage dhenegra. Using a fury, he boosted his melee roll, hitting before smashing her for 7 damage (boosted that roll too). With a fairly bad rol, i decided to spend another fury to attack again (1 left now!). Needing to boost the damage roll to get the win, i decided not to boost the
MAT roll (baldur also took 3
DEF off her afer the first hit). I prayed to the dice god, rolling, and coming up trumps with 11. Boosting the damage roll, aldu smashed dhenegra apart, winning the dayagainst the hated spawn of Toruk.
VICTORY TO CIRCLE ORBOROS!!
That was a very fun game, could have gone either way a several points. I found the druids were MVP, counter magic is fully worth the 7 pts, even without the othe 5 druids' magic. The Wold Guardian was slow, but hit REALLY hard, and mgalith was awesome. Baldur had his moments, but ultimatly got the caster kill so i cant complain. I feel Al could have been more agressive, especially with the slayer, but it was only his 3rd game so...
I really like this system, and suspect there will be many more games to follow. All in all i thoroughly enjoyed my first game.
Rules query:
When Baldur was casting spells, Al seemed to think you rolled
2d6 + current fury, so most of the time i was rolling straight
2d6 as i had no fury left. Is that correct or is it FURY? If he is right, offensive spells seem crap.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the batrep, feel free to pose any questions,
Vitruvian
