Hi everybody. This is my first attempt at doing a Wave Serpent - I did the spatter pattern to make it look dirty, and painted the vanes so that they wouldn't have the spatter on them. I'm doing my whole army with Ulthwe colors, and have added a spot of blue to all of the units (my Wraithlords have blue knuckles and blue boots - pic enclosed with the Serpent pics). Comments and/or suggestions for my Fire Prism welcomed - will probably be starting on it this weekend! Thanks in advance!

It's a decent start.
The splatter pattern is pretty interesting.
Maybe paint the frame on the cockpit window as well?

Also is that an old Wraithlord?

Thanks! I'd thought about doing the cockpit window, but I decided against it (would be too tricky trying to do the lines, which is why I just did the little bit on the top of the cockpit). I may decide to do it this weekend, if I don't chicken out. Don't have an extra cockpit window to use if I screw it up. And yes, it IS an old Wraithlord! An ancient one - decided to give him some blue suede shoes (which is how the whole one-thing-blue idea started for all my units)! My jetbikes have fade-in blue on the blades...

I like the coulour scheme, but the intakes for the engines look a bit too clean? But thats just my preference

Dan - I wanted to keep the engines white with the silver gray undertone to give it the punch of contrast. It's another standard thing I do with my units.

It is indeed looking pretty good, I'd like to see some more stuff like this at the FLGS that I go to, especially since its Eldar.

Thanks! I'll be posting pics of other units as they get finished! I have a feeling that my Warp Spiders will be taking a lot of boos - I couldn't help it and used a Spiderman theme for their uniforms (black & red with the requisite little bits of blue)...

It does add contrast, but unfortunatly it also makes the intakes look unpainted. Painting the gaps black would still be contrasting though. I like the splatter pattern. Although the first thing I thought when I saw it was "cool starfield pattern" rather than dirt. That doeasn't mean it looks bad though!

Agreeing, paint the cockpit lines. My brush control is one of my weak spots as a painter, and even I managed quite well! Little trick, if you veer a bit off course, immediately lick your fingertip and use it to wipe off the stray paint. As long as you do it quickly, the paint comes off easily.

Also, the engine vents: I did mine black, and then brushed the raised strips a lighter colour. If you're keeping yours all that bone colour, at least give the area a heavy brown wash to give it some contrast.

And finally, the wave serpent turrets tend to look best if they're at the front (center or one notch off). To one side like that looks a bit odd. And do whatever it takes to make the turret plate lie flush! For some reason the instructions say not to glue that big round plate. I have no idea why, I glue it in and leave the little turret piece loose.

I'll try doing the wash for the engine vents - that sounds like the safest option. Will be working on my Fire Prism this weekend, so will try it on that one. Will also work on the cockpit lines. As for the turret, I just didn't have it locked down tight when I took the pic. I liked the look of it off-kilter; will try setting it on straight & forwards this weekend in my game. Thanks!

Behind You.

I love it, but instead of using that flecked/splattered look, I find that using black/brown washes make it look grimy and worn. Also, when I painted my Fire Prism, I painted it all with Mordian Blue, then I went over every other square/rectangle thing with Enchanted Blue. By squares, I mean the little parts of the front sides of the wings, where there are those little sections seperated by the grooves. If I was doing Ulthwe I'd paint every other square thing bleached bone, and keep the others black to give it some more contrast, or a bit more "pizazz". I really like what you did with the grooves, and it has a nice solid look to it. Hope this helps, and keep up the good work. I demand it.

I love my microwave.

Hopefully, if I say that no one will quote me in their sig, then they will quote me... but saying they will makes it so that they probably won't. INDECISIVE PARADOX.
