Hello everyone im very new to space marines but have been playing tyranids for a long time, im just coming back with my exp. only in third edition so a little help on my list would be awesome i have a very fluffy list where i revoles around lightining claws and assualt marines here it goes.

hq

captin w/ dual lighting claws, jump pack with 5 assualt marines 255

troops

10 tac 1 ML 170

elite

5 stern guard 2 melta gun 1 lightning claw w/ drop pod 185

fast attack

10 assault 2 plasma pistol sergent with dual lightning claw 250

10 assault 2 plasma pistol sergent with dual lightning claw 250

5 vanguard sergent with dual lightning claws lightning claw x 4 200

heavy support

7 devis with 4 missle launcher 182

total 1492

as said before this is strictly fluffy list rather then a compettitive list and im relearning all the rules. my idea was to keep assault marines in cover while they move up and devis/ stern guard take out any tanks before the assault. a combat squaded tac will provide distraction while i hope for a turn two assault . is this just crazy or do you think that it could possibly work?? have a cool story as to why no tanks are involved and why so many lighting claws are used but that will be for story time later lol.

if i could get some feed back on to how to keep it very fluffy but more competitive let me know my only thing is no vehicles exct drop pods.

Well, you might want to get another troop unit so you can play legally. That will make you a whole lot more competitive.

Second, you have very little stuff for 1500. A bunch of marines pretty much. I can't help but think you'd be wiser to run these as blood angels, to make your assmarines cheaper and scoring.

I understand codex marines are way sexier though.

How about a few pods with beacons, and maybe scout bikes so you can deepstrike vanguard accurately?

You could cut your tactical squad, which is sort of handicapped anyway having no rhino, and get some scouts instead.

Also, your sternguard squad is pretty stupid, sorry to say. For the cost of two melta guns, you could give them four combi-meltas and keep everyone's special ammo. Lightning claw on sarge is sort of weird as well but I guess workable if it's your theme.

Indeed. Army is illegal. If you want jump troop heavy then go Blood Angels.

if you do want to stay Vanilla then look at taking Shrike rather than the tooled up Captain.

Vanguard need to pay extra for jump packs and I assume they will need them in this list.

HS slot is poor. For that price I could have 3 vanilla preds for instance.

Yeah, 180pts is also the price of two typhoon speeders. That's 4 missiles AND 2 HB, on fast skimmers

You're sort of handicapping yourself with the no vehicles thing. You know speeders are piloted by assault marines yes?
