Ok i have been trying to find some 40k army i like.... nothings really "tickling my fancy"
I have tryed: jetbike eldar, space marines, chaos,tau, LOTD, tyranid, orks....

But i found I REALLY like the ork codex
and skaven models

and after randomly finding "santos skave project" i was instantly inspired
I HAD to do it!

mmk well here is my First real update

I finished off my first.... idk what to call it.... battlewagon with killkannon?
I would definatly say battlewagon but it is almost EXACTLY 12" long O.o

Interesting vehicles, i like the squat appearance of them, shows some though into how the skaven would actually drive the things. I look forward to seeing the infantry . BTW they arent 'fail' unless some one says so, and i certainly aint!

Get some bigger pics up mate, if you have uploaded these from the dakka gallery make sure you full screen them before you copy the link. Lets face it Dakkanauts are lazy, clicking on images is too much effort.

Well, seeming this is based on skaven, I would use skaven slaves as gretchin!
With stormboyz, you could do the wings, but add chunks of sprues to them to make it look like that they have been mutated with warp stone!

It would be cool if your Stormboyz looked like Pigeons since they are considered winged rats.

Of course winged rats would be cool too.

Well i got bored when i was playing a certain MMO video game everyone seems to hate XD
but as i was riding around on my "goblin trike"
it gave me inspiration to base something off of it for my SKAVE

so i figured this is 40k, so ill make a REMOTE control trike!
there is going to be 3 of them (1 is finished)
and i am going to count them as warbuggies i think
the guy that drives them is still WIP

and they have a red thing that picks up the RC waves or W/E
and they have a rotating turret hooked up to a warpstone crystal

but here are a few (not good) shots at my finished trike!

OOh ok i am thinking about "deff dreads" and i decided to use the "rat ogers" from island of blood, due to there amazing poses

So For the first one (the one with the claw)
i am going saw off his claw arm at the elbow, and attach a IG auto cannon, and greenstuff it in to make it look.... skaveny
also this looks amazing because it will look like hes aiming because of how his head is posed (see pictures 1&2)

For the second one, i am going to get his back and convert it so theres little ?post? style things then hook up, ORK deff dread mega blastas
but i am going to make it look ?predator style? like how his plasma cannons are
soo kinda like a tau battlesuit (see pictures 3&4)

i also need to know if the guns are to big.... if you think so PLEASE TELL ME!

but i am going to have 2 sets of the ogers so i need more ideas (o,O)

For your flyers I think go with gargoyle wings and model them to look like bats.

Like your idea for the Island of Blood rat ogres but I think sizewise they fit Mega Nobs rather then deff dreads.

For DeffDreads, considering your army's guard-ish theme, would try kitbashing a sentinel with arms from something, and a crazy skaven driver of course!

I like the look so far matey, The stormvermin I am conjuring are wingless and instead move like warp spiders. Skitter leaping across the table

for those that do not know "Skitter Leap" was once a powerful teleportation the vermin lord could use in game, not sure if he still can but it was removed form his rules some time ago.
as for my unit they will resemble moving shadows.... hopefully lol.

the Sentinal idea is a good one with some modding it could make a very viable Def dread/rat.


Keep it up the work is good and the results will show... Don't rush it make it right the rats deserve it haha.

Nope not rushed, ramshackled which is what your after in my oppinion.

Skave(n) in my eyes are the theives and scavengers of the stars, (space pirates) almost everything they have came from someone elses
hard work, but they are not experts on everyone elses tech.

What they are good at is taking someones favorite toys and bolting on Warpstone and furnaces then letting it fly without thought
of what could go wrong or mighthappen after the event.

These guy fit that bill very well, just keep to a theme so if tanks are your thing keep your units themed to that.
It will give yolur army the cohesion it needs on the table top, it will let them look like an army instead of an eclectic bundle of mini's.

You are most definately on the right track and I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

I have a concept in greens on my thread if you want to see my vision for the stormboys if your going for a mechanical flying unit look to eastern
myth of flying soldiers like Ninja on Giant Kites etc and mabye draw some inspiration from there as the Skaven themselves have an eastern feel with
some units I recall an old WD article that noted Asiian myth as the inspiration behind the Eshin clan while European Druidic society was the basis for the plague
monks etc and the Roman legions the inspiration for the main body of the skaven culture.

I find it a good way to get into the head of your army by looking at their roots and coming up with modern and then futuristic parrallels to them.

For example: Kite warriors (Myth) ---> Hang Gliders (Modern) ----> Doom Wings (Future) what a doomwing is... no idea... maybe some metal V wing style hang-glider you could use modded
defkopta wings make a harness out of bras rod or trukk parts and mount your crazy @ssed Skave underneath with a trail of poison wind globes trailing behind him tied to his big toe....

Just an idea!

I guess what I'm going for here is make them your own but keep them rooted in the existing Mythos and keep it themed so once your done the ressults will be stunning.

"Make it work" is the right wording I don't see them adapting or asymilating tech/ideas/things to their own tech it's more of steal that, bolt this thing on and drive it away.

i gotta watch this thread, i was thinking the exact same thing about two weeks ago when looking through the Skaven heraldry book that they have alot of stuff that could very easily be changed over into 40K.

jazzails = sniper rifles
warpfire thrower = flamer/fusion gun
lightning cannon = mount it on a tank, and taa daa!

i definitely agree with everyones statement that these guys are thieves unparalleled, and would put a loota boy to shame. so their stuff would indeed be even more ramshackle than orks. I can see a kill team mission in my head right now with a group of skaven trying to get away with a big meks favorite shock attack gun, or his KFF.

one thing that i would like to add though is to not forget their special rule 'LIFE IS CHEAP' so having Skaven slaves chained to a tank and making them run on the treadmill tracks is not out of context for these guys. Squig bombs would be Skaven slaves with dynamite and warpstone strapped to them with two guys wielding really long poles pushing them towards the enemy.

for Stormboyz i think i'll be going with a more steampunk idea and strapping a steam engine onto their backs, but i do like the idea of glider wings as well, so maybe i'll do both. in fact that's how i picture most of my 40K skaven is with a steampunk theme along with the warpstone.

my only problem is reduced hrs at work is going to limit how fast i can get mine together, but at least i can have fun throwing out ideas to help another person and in the end gain some ideas myself, until i can start working on mine.

ooh, i just got a really good picture in my head for a Rat based deff dread. since the deff dread is already 'looted' that means it was shot and killed, so cut the middle out of the body, insert the rat from the skaven doomwheel and run guitar string wires from the rats controls into the arms and legs, and add a warpstone engine to the back of the thing.

then take the rest of the doomwheel, since we can't let an expensive model go to waste, do something like this:

It always blows me away how creative you can be with the skaven kits.

30second hang-glider Doomwing Concept from Skaven only parts.





This is quick only to outline the idea you'd probably want to GS up some joins fill some gaps etc, but it's pretty good for a bunch of shields and a bit of brass, a harness would seal the deal on it the real
trick will be posing skaven legs without having to buy 5 to 10 Queeks or starter box Warlords which would make excellent jump troops so don't let me put you off that if you want to spend the
dimes).

There is also some nice draping fabric in the palague monk boxes that would good trailing away form this to give a feel of motion.

a V-wing form the Ork DefKopta blades would also look nice but I didn't have any spare.
