Veteran Wolf Guard Squad Leader

Reading, England

I have decided as a gamer to finally complete a fully painted and legal army, choosen at random from all my different and varying projects. I narrowed it down to three, Orks, Space Wolves or my unnamed and poorly painted gaurdsmen. As you have probably guessed i plumped for the gaurd, after re-reading the begining of First and Only the first novel in the tanith series, this is where the inspiration came from...

Gaunt before becoming a fully fledged commisar spent time training with the Hyrkan 8th, they have pale skin and hair, grey fatigues, beige webbing ( and i have decided beige armour and helmets just for some change). The plan along with some special characters along the way is to create a infantry based army, with perhaps some sentinels as support. In the book there is no mention of tanks, apart from field artillery, which may or may not come at a latter date. Led by Commisar-general Delane Oktar and General Caernavar. Each man is valued for his skills and the right person is always choosen for the right jobs.

So fluff out of the way, i sprayed all my current gaurdsmen black and set to work. Lined up on my desk was a 39 model army (not legal) all ready for painting. I started with a Base coat of Fenris grey as an undercoat to all the models. After this i drybrushed them codex grey. I have now encountered my first of many problems, the grey is too bluey/grey and way to light for the desciption given. Badab Black needed once all them have been dry brushed and then mabye a second drybrush of codex grey

Secondly i need to decide where to take the army, so far i have got

HQ
Comand squad with Comander (not general Caernavar) vox, medi pack, Melta and standard

Elites
Karskin x9 melta, plasma

Troops
Platoon
- platoon command, lascannon, vox and power weapon
- two infantry squads, both with flamers and voxs, one has a mortar and the other a HB

Fast
two sentinels with auto cannons

I plan to add a second and possibly third platoons of similar size, although i may then bump them up to 3 man teams, with at least one 3 man heavy weapons team with missile launchers to each. Eventually i plan to have two such squads attached to each platoon. I also plan on adding 3-6 more sentinels (rocket launchers or auto cannons).

C&C welcome

Below are some test models and i will post the rest once i return from my geography field trip, so sunday at the latest, sorry about the darkness of the first one

Please keep updating this, I want to paint my guards men as the Hyrkan as well; but I have no clue how to paint them.
