Hey dakka community! I just thought i would share with you a little proposition my friend s.j.mccartney and i are partaking in! As you may be aware it is Lent. So rather than give up something! (which i have also done) We decided to pick 46 models from each of our armies to paint over the lent period as a challenge, the prize at the end of lent, if both of us have painted the nominated 46 models to say tabletop standard we will by each other a random warhammer gift as a reward for completing the challenge!

Needless to say it has motivated me to get some painting done!

So grab a buddy, or challenge yourself!

My to paint list is as follows

2 x Dreadnoughts (1 Furioso, 1 Furioso Libby) dreadnoughts count as 5 models we decided
10x Assault Termies
25x Ork Boyz
1x Libby

My desk is cleared save for all but these 46 models and ready to paint paint paint!

Lets see if there are any takers and feel free to post WIP shots!!!

Well April 24th is Easter Sunday, which is when Lent ends! So 46 Models, between yesterday and the 24th April!

I thought the point of lent was to give up something, not take new stuff on? Granted, I'm a recovering catholic so I may not be up to date on all my catholic ritual stuff. I've been in recovery for MANY years now, so most of the side effects are gone, but things still are a bit foggy from my days under the umbrella of catholicism...

I don't see anything wrong with giving up Not Painting for Lent, so long as you spend the time moaning about how hard it is to paint so much and you don't gloat about your painted models until the end

Well i'm actually off purchasing warhammer or warhammer related items for lent!

Whilst traditional Lent would be giving stuff up, i have heard on a number of occasions of people taking things up, like for example walking, a healthy lifestyle etc, to go alongside the things they are giving up (sweets crisps choc etc).

So to balance my lack of purchasing and to inspire me to paint more my friend and i came up with this little challenge!

Lol in the Off topic forum i had started a thread about lent. What did i say i was giving up? 'unpainted models', seems many people thought the same thing.

I gave up soda, swearing, and purchasing Warhammer things, so I might as well paint to fill the gap.

I don't have 46 models left unpainted... I could try stripping 46 models instead though.

If I can have until the end of lent next year I'm in.

Are you a slow painter Bullfrog? Or just very very uber detail?

I'm in on this. Maybe it means I'll be able to field a fully painted army for the first time in, in.... well for the first time ever I guess

Remember not to buy new models until all that you have are already painted. Codex grey don't count either.

Well said Osyr! How is everyones painting going? I have painted all dehneb stone on my dreads, libby and termies!

Libby needs metals painted and his base!

Libby dread has base mechrite red coat, enchanted blue, needs metal details done to have a full base coat of paint!

I mainly just sat and stared at stuff this morning.

I have many choices.

Decided I'm going to ebay off most of the eldar I acquired. I can't face 60 guardians. Keeping the aspect warriors though.

Tau are also vexing my rectum, mainly because they're already assembled (WHY?!)

Nids were possibly the most disappointing. Never build without a codex kiddies.

After a phonecall to the donor to explain at length that if in doubt, magnetise, I have decided to do the following.

5 Terminators
20 Tactical Marines
10 Eldar Aspect Warriors
12 Gaunts


Terminators : Test mini complete, rest of the squad basecoated.
Tac Marines Various stages of not finished. Some primed, some basecoated, some midcoated.
Aspect Warriors - Need to strip.
12 Gaunts - Waiting on a paint order.


As an aside,I want to get as many different marine chapter examples as possible painted too. Hoping to take on some commission work once I've kick my work ethic back into gear and have a decent gallery.

At least on the marine front. Last year I made an attempt to return, and so bought many boxes of marine junk. I assembled (d'oh) and began to paint them. I then gave up.

Every single one of these marines, except the AOBR ballast has been strippped, but unfortunately, being the spazz I am, most marines are fully built. =/

I've knocked up two living scribble pads. A tac and a terminator. I'll use them for testing weathering and highlights etc. When the units are done, they're getting stripped and having a nice paint job, instead of the messy ones you see below.







I cannot bring myself to start anything else right now.

Bit of both, most time is lost just buggering about while avoiding making a start. Once there's paint on the brush progress is ok.

46 models in a month is ridiculous though, I might just manage 4 - 6.

I know, its quite the challenge!! I am enjoying it though! Will hopefully finish the dreads this weekend! I'm away on hols all next week so will be pretty rushed when i get back!!!

I'm totally in. and so far I've painted 4 tactical marines in 3 days!!! I'll post a picture of my desk and a list of my lent-challenge...

Well here is my twopence worth of updates! I'm not sure how close i'll get to completing this challenge but i will not be beaten by steve that's for sure!

Here is my new BA Librarian Brother Genitivi, I like to think of him as Mephiston's second in command! I shall have to write some fluff someday! He's an upgrade on my old librarian, i decided to be Codex Astartes with this one hence the blue armour! But i am not complaining!!

Anyway, heres the photo! Not quite finished yet! But getting there!

I've gotten 20 models assembled, and painted.


I have to redo a couple faces due to errors in dry brushing.



Still got a lot more to go, but I need to buy more bases.


I may even get these guys done too while I'm at it.

I think I'm going to do something similar though.

I really like this and in addition it helps me with my initial goal. Paint 5,000pts.
I shall join in.
The models that I will paint are:
1x canonnes
40x sisters including some flamers, some heavy weapons and some veterans (not sure on actual models yet as I still have to get some)
2x rhinos
2x immolators
and one mystery model.

Well, we're 12 days in - 34 left to go!!

8 of my redskin orks are almost done, and another 5 Raven Guard Tacticals!! And I'm working through on my Raven Guard Dreadnought and Veterans. Getting there...

Its so hard to keep my desk clear of all other hammer distractions, but its working so far! Bring on the paint!!!
