I win the roll off and give him the first turn. The deployment was the old diagonal one from rogue trader tournament days. Basically you measure 18 inch's in from the corner's on opposite ends of the table and then draw a line across the table creating a 24 inch no mans zone through one corner the middile and then the other side.

Mission: Primary: Victory points, win by over 300 to get the massacre.
Secondary: Have more mobile units in your opponents deployment zone than they have in yours.
Tertiary: Place 3 objectives in the no mans zone, whoever controls more objectives wins it.

Deployment: I castle in the corner and wait to see how he drops.

Space Wolves Turn #1: He drops in 2 rune priests and 1 wolf priest. He gets off both powers from the priests that do 3d6 str3 hits and makes the opponent in difficult/dangerous the next round. I lose 6 terminators from various units from random bolter fire, psychic attacks, his melta guns and plasma pistols. Of special note was losing the brother captain to a bolter shot the first save he had to take.

Deathwing Turn #1: The vindicators shoot at pods and hit random chunk's of space wolves, and I fire a lot of cyclones and typhoons at his squads. One squad is down to 5 model's, the other two are down to 7-8. I charge into his 3 squads with my command squad (down 1 terminator but it has Belial in it), my lightning claw squad (untouched), and an untouched cyclone squad. The lightning claws manage to kill all of 3 model's he then hits with 6 out of 7 power weapon attacks and wounds with all of them, I make one save, he then gets 2 out of 3 fist attacks and I fail both of them to lose the squad leaving the power fist and rune priest alive. The wolf priest squad counter attacks back against my command squad. He wounds with 5 of his 7 attack's and I fail all of them on my th/ss models leaving only Belial alive, who takes a couple of them out. The third squad kills off everyone and routes the rune priest (my attacks against him all missed). I had 2 squads of 3 terminators that had been the victims of his pyshic powers. I didn't charge them into the combats because I figured they should be fairly easy fights and with the rate I was rolling one's for armor saves I didn't want to risk it, big mistake on my part, should have gone all in.

Space Wolves Turn #2: He gets in one dreadnaught that drops in and fries a vindicator. He finish's off Belial in hand to hand (there were 3 guys left besides the wolf priest, belial only killed 2 and died to the fist). The rune priest and wolf guard with fist charge into one of my remaining 3 man squads and kills 1, and I kill the fist in return (whiffed both attacks on the rune priest).
Deathwing Turn #2: I fire all 3 typhoon's into the dreadnaught and fail to do anything but shake it. I shoot 2 vindicators at the wolf priest and power fist and manage to kill off the power fist. I gun down the running rune priest and assault his dreadnaught with a 3 man terminator squad, ripping his power fist off locking us in hand to hand. I manage to kill off his other rune priest and have 1 terminator survive the combat.

Space Wolves Turn #3: He gets his other dreadnaught in, which tries for another vindicator but only shakes it (missed with the melta, shaken with the heavy flamer). His wolf priest charges my lone terminator and kills it. I stay locked in hth with his other dreadnaught immobilizing it and ripping weapons off of it.
Deathwing Turn #3: I again shoot 3 typhoon's into his dreadnaught and manage to rip off his power fist and shake it. I blow up some random drop pods (I've lost 2 terminators to the storm bolters from them now). My terminators finally manage to destroy his dreadnaught in hth and consolidate towards the other dreadnaught.

Space Wolves Turn #4: In comes his last squad near a vindicator which the plasma pistols roast. He immobilizes a speeder with a storm bolter from a drop pod. His dreadnaught tries to catch my last vindicator but fails to hit it on 6's.
Deathwing Turn #4: The speeder's start their dash towards his deployment zone. and vindicator shoots into his newly arrived squad killing a couple. I destroy the last dread with a cyclone shot.
Space Wolves Turn #5: He moves up to try to get some shots on one of the speeders but is out of range.
Deathwing Turn #5 : The speeder's continue their dash towards his deployment zone. and the vindicator make a b line towards his deployment zone.
He rolls to see if the game continues and it comes up a 1. One of my land speeder's misses his deployment zone by about an inch, and the vindicator would have needed another turn. So he gets the secondary. I have 225 victory points over him so I get a major win on the primary and I get the tertiary. All told 26 points to me 21 points to him. On my turn one I should have just taken the risks on the dangerous terrain checks and charged in with both of the other squads of terminators, being too timid there probably cost me the game. That and trying to shoot down those venerable dreadnaughts. I should have boosted the speeders out and away a turn earlier and left the vindicators to their death by dreadnaught.

Nice battle report, as always. Hard to believe you made a big mistake though
Also, nice to see you using the Grey Knight as allies only a few weeks before the new codex comes out.

Congrats on the win though, looking forward to the other reports.

They had other stuff on them that didn't really affect the game but they were different, added something to the list to denote that. Thanks!

Yeah that list is illegal only cause of the hqs but otherwise it is a good list.

we may be few, but even though we are near destruction. we the shadow wolves survive and move on to get our vengence on the tyrinids!

Really bad dice this game for you. Just be happy you managed the win... Although that in and of itself probably knocked you out of contention for the overall top spot. Sucks it had to happen in the first round. At least your big mistake didn't cost you the win.

Tertiary: Kill your opponents most expensive unit

So we see lots of power weapons and lot's of small arm's fire, the perfect things for killing terminators. I win the roll off and give him first turn. I elect to start with everything in reserves with 2 squads of terminators walking on the table.
Daemons Turn #1: He gets in the wrong wave of 20 bloodletters, 3 units of horror's, and 2 units of flamers. (which was actually the better wave for him, in my opinion).

Deathwing Turn #1: I decide to drop two terminator squads in, the command squad in the center and another on the left, a few potshots with frag missiles kills a few bloodletters.

Daemons Turn #2: He gets in both chariot's and a daemon prince, the prince mishaps back into reserves. His chariot shoots and kills two terminators and that's about it.
Deathwing Turn #2: I get in no terminators, 1 typhoon, and all three vindicators. The vindicators pepper into the horror squads for a little bit of damage, the typhoon and cyclone put some more shots into the bloodletters. I charge and kill his chariot that deep struck in the middile with the command squad, I consolidate back into terrain but spread out so that I can go after a horror squad. On the left my squad rolled double 1's for difficult terrain making assaulting the chariot impossible.

A 1 on my difficult terrain made assaulting the chariot impossible so I backed the terminators up.
Daemons Turn #3: He gets in both daemon princes and the blood crusher's. He moves up and assaults into my spread out terminators getting a good difficult terrain roll. I kill 5 bloodletters he kills off the squad leaving belial and the brother captain left. His shooting kills 2 more terminators on the right (a daemon prince and a chariot).
Deathwing Turn #3: I get in the last 2 typhoons, and one squad of terminators. The lightning claws come down near the blood letters in terrain. The vindicators put some more shots into the horrors for minimal damage. The typhoons all shoot into a daemon prince and manage to inflict a single wound. He finish's off belial and the brother captain in hth and consolidates away from the lightning claw terminators.
Daemons Turn #4: The thirster comes in near my vindicators. He shoots into the lightning claws killing 2 of them (one of them being the heavy flamer) and downs a typhoon.
Deathwing Turn #4: I get in the last two terminator squads, they shoot up the crusher's a bit and multi-assault the blood thirster and the blood crusher's. I lose a few terminators, but 4 of the crushers are down and the thirster is down to two wounds.
Daemons Turn #5: He immobilizes a vindicator and takes out another typhoon. The thirster and the terminators both whiff causing no damage, another crusher goes down.
Deathwing Turn #5: I finish off the crusher's and consolidate towards his objective. I flat out a speeder onto another one. I have a single marine holding mine, and move a vindicator onto the center objective. If the game ends I have the tie for the primary. The dies isn't a one or a two so we continue.
Daemons Turn #6: He kills the lone terminator, bloodletters down the speeder, and his horror's kill 3 terminators to clear off an objective. In hth I clear out the blood thirster and consolidate towards his objective.
Deathwing Turn #6: My lone lightning claw terminator weaves between flamers and manages to make it into hth with his horrors in the center. My other terminators the killed the bloodthirster charge into the horrors on his objective and he makes all his saves. The game ends with one unclaimed him holding 2 and me contesting 2 giving him the massacre. he gets the secondary for more kill points but I keep my most expensive squad alive denying him the tertiary. I was in a bind on turn #2 he was going to be able to keep peppering me with horrors if I didn't move out and do something with my command squad, not getting any terminators in for support meant I had 2 squads high and dry. If I hadn't of spread them out the daemon player wouldn't have assaulted with his letters he would have backed them off, and it was quickly proving that I couldn't out shoot him with just the scattering of frag rounds I was launching. Unfourtunately he made the dt roll and was able to assault the spread out squad thus enabling him to eat it with only losing a total of around 8 bloodletters not a bad exchange on his part.
